Yesterday was very hard for many of us, given what we know about stolen valor or how quickly the pandemic has changed the old traditions of honoring those who have served or recently died.
The crowd at my city event seems to be shrinking each year. Traffic didn’t want to wait for the parade.
Thanks to a translation app, I was able to answer questions of the Turkish man who works at the pizza shop. In the Old World, they call the fallen soldiers Martyrs, and it really hit me that my mother taught me the same Catholic, “fight not in an unjust war” respect for the dead.

I like the fact that every president lays a wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier but I find it very distasteful when you can't even get someone to play taps without a recorded version. This is unprofessional, unexceptionable, and disrespectful to the fallen. I thought our military especially the Marines were better than that? Very disappointing and sad that you can't take the time to actually play taps.
