Deku winning without using his quirk is a testament to how smart and resourceful he can be even if he doesn't give himself too much credit, what he doesn't realize is that even if someone else had a "lucky punch" like that maybe they wouldn't have known how to utilize it to their advantage to win, but Deku did because of how smart he is, on top of making his chance instead of waiting for it 🥇
This is such a great point! I agree with you, it was so nice to see Deku win by using only his wit! He's so clever and really thought through the entire challenge. I think that's one of the benefits of him growing up without a quirk, that he had to learn to adapt and use other skills as opposed to relying on a quirk.
Mei Hutsume (the gadgets girl) reminds me of a lot of characters in Girl Genius, a steampunk web comic set in an1800s Europe that was destroyed by infighting among mad scientists. Most of the characters are either mad scientists or their minions. ===== Eraserhead is a bit nuts, but he's a genuinely good teacher. ===== One detail I love is that when we watch Deku's mom, we see where he gets those crying fits from. ===== Class 1-B isn't lesser than 1-A. This year, the hero course had so many students that they had to be divided into two classes. 1-A gets all the attention because of certain news events. Their leader, the redhead named Kendo is my absolute favorite from 1-B. She's very sensible and a natural leader, and she's smart enough to make the most from a relatively weak quirk.
