- How well do the stars of Star Trek Into Darkness know their source material? I put Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Alice Eve, Benedict Cumberbatch and director J.J. Abrams to the test by throwing a little unexpected Trek trivia their way in a fun "Warp Speed Round."

Karl Urban knows his Trek. John Cho badass man of color.
Benedict Cumberbatch has never seen a goddamned episode of Star Trek.
Karl Urban is such a trekkie, everytime someone asks him a question, he doesnt even hesitate. Everyone else is kind of confused.

And...as much as I love love love Benedict Cumberbatch, I have to agree on that making him Khan was a poor choice. Anyone else but that character. I can only see him as only John Harrison, not Khan.

The Naked Time was one of the first episodes I watched and I am now infinitely hooked on Star Trek. My mom is so proud hahaha!

Cho is a big fan as well, just not so much of the Original Series. Love Urban though, he's also a huge Doctor Who fan. I have to say in general though that I'm really developing a distain for the whole cast.
The next Trek needs more Choverlord and Urban's fine Kiwi ass.

It wouldn't have been hard for them to cast, you know, an actual Punjabi man as Khan, or at least someone of Indian descent. Star Trek is a franchise that has prided itself on its diversity, but sadly, Abrams saw nothing wrong with casting a white man named Benedict Cumberbatch as a Punjabi Indian named Khan Singh (which is a pretty poor choice for a name on the part of the writers of the original series. 'Khan' is a traditionally Muslim surname, whereas 'Singh' is a Sikh last name)
Noticed all of JJ Abrams movie has poor casting.
its Star Trek the philosophy of Gene is not to judge races, so can't you do the same with Benedict as Khan. If it wasn't for Benedict as the villain this film would not have been worth watching. it would be completely flat.

I understand why people are so upset, actually, thanks. Benedict Cumberbatch hasn't actually done a lot of big Hollywood roles. I just think people are going to be pleasantly surprised when they see the movie, and they shouldn't start boycotting the movie before he's even come out in theaters worldwide.

I love Benedict as Khan.. but a little part of me died inside when he's not playing Picard in the movie. It would work so much better. But anyway.. I hope Benedict returns in the third one.
Wow, it's sad that only one of the actors in this movie is a fan of Star Trek and that is Karl Urban. Like when the interviewer asked all the actors questions he was the only one to answer immediately, accurately, and thoughtfully. All the others were asking him for advice, and were totally lost. Some of them, it's clear, that they did not watch a single episode of TOS. Would have been nice to have fans make these reboots. So many people are ST fans too! Sad.....
Because he probably was. He was like the only Trekkie in the entire cast before the 09 movie.

I would be suprised if there was much casting going on. They never cast the person who they feel is the best actor. They get the person that they think will bring them the most money. Benedict was pretty popular, even a sex symbol after sherlock. They whitewashed for the cash. That's all there is to it.
Both Quinto & Pine watched a lot of ST eps when they got their roles in the film. Sometimes, people are just not good at memorizing episode names. Cho clearly didn't watch or remember many ST eps.
and then there is Karl
They were, then there was a civil war and a group of Vulcans left the planet. With the change in environment came a change in physicality - they are now the Romulans we know today.
Alice Eve is "SMOKIN HOT" 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥, she really needs more time on the #ENTERPRISE 🛸 along with Zoe Saldana & this new cutiepie Sofia Boutella who plays #Jaylah 👀!

Yes, Benedict Cumberbatch makes a great John Harrison... but I just can't see him as Khan. John Harrison could have been a fine villain in his own right, so the whole Khan connection just felt forced and unnecessary.

It's so obvious Ben Cumberbatch doesnt give a rat's ass about Star Trek. (Granted most of the AOS cast weren't familiar with it either back in 08/09 but they have become fans since then.)
He's from episode 2 of Star Trek's original series (and the episode itself is named Charlie X). Don't know why Alice brings him up... In my opinion, I was way too stressed out watching him. God, he was so annoying. I got ulcers. :'v

Yeah, he just happens to have a 3-movie deal for the Hobbit and is blowing up as an actor in Hollywood, as well as having a career in England. He isn't going to have trouble finding work, because he's talented and a white male, which is what basically every movie script calls for. How many roles are available to South Asian actors? Sorry if I don't go boo hoo poor Cumberbatch on this one.

John Cho is literally me. I'm sorry but casting a pasty white English dude to play a POC is pathetic in this day and age. Star Trek has regressed from the original. Star Trek from the 60s is actually more progressive. How sad is that?
