My best guess is the adult family cutted the tree down but the 16 yo took the blame. Because of the age and probably no previous convictions he will be asked not to do that again and let go free. What we're really talking about is just individuals, of which each one displays whether they have the values and qualities that make them worthwhile members of both our society or their generation. I was so angered by this event that I didn't stop to ponder every word I wrote about it, however there is hope that the tree might regrow, and with any luck, this event might encourage people to value trees more in general and even to plant new ones if they are able.
