Thank you for the in depth review of this line. I remember buying the Mario and Bowser (which i still have mind in condition today) from toys r us back in '99. I remember calling Toybiz during that time and asking if they were coming out with Peach and Toad. The customer service rep said they were thinking of it but unfortunately it never came to fruition. I've always dreamed about having all of the characters from this game. I used to love this game and would play it all of the time.
Please never stop making videos. I love listening to these at work. The specifics you go into aren’t endless, great voice, perfect thing to listen to in a winding-up or winding-down mindset
You bring mention that Wario's garb should be more purple than the light-pinkish violet we got, but I'd like to redirect you to early Wario art ala Mario Land 2, where it seems they took the most inspiration from, especially given the two huge toothy grins from them. Hey, a NEW VIDEO! That's right, it's A Look Back At The Toybiz Mario Kart 64 Action Figures! This took way longer to complete than it should have, I really need to work on maintaining a solid upload schedule, thank you guys so much for putting up with that. But anyway, in this video I cover the iconic Mario figure set by Toybiz, detailing a good amount of everything you could ever want to know about them. Hope you guys enjoy it!
PatMac next do a video on the kirby return dream land figures there only in ebay cuz there where sold out in japen but the 1st set is the most rare normal kirby ninja kirby sword kirby and leaf kirby this is the 1st set
This figures have so much nostalgia for me my grandmother bought these for me at Costco in a bundle she passed away a few years back and they bring back so meany amazing memories
When it comes to Peach and Toads absence, I was just under the assumption that Toad's arms and feet were too small to reach the car. Toad also lacks legs so they couldn't bend like the others making his sitting position odd. As for Peach, her dress makes her radically different from the others and it likely proved to be too cumbersome to give her articulation with the dress in the way, as it covers most of her body.
I think Toad could've possibly worked if he had different leg joints that didn't cut into his sculpt (give the illusion his feet move around like they did on the renders while in reality they're on wheel or disc pieces inside and they can slide back and forth), but I do think he would have trouble with reaching his kart, especially as he'd need to sit. Maybe they could've given him some booster seat which would make his more distinct but at the same time, I doubt they'd do it for him as they didn't for anyone else. I think Peach's limbs might be too fragile even ignoring the dress, I imagine many of them would be missing gloves or hands nowadays if they were to do her like they did Yoshi, someone else with thin arms. And yeah, no way they're giving her a plastic dress for a figure who needs to sit in a kart while also stand next to it, meaning they'd have to give her a cloth dress, making her even more radically different.
I guess Peach and Toad would be hard to articulate because they don't have visible legs. Toad's feet are connected to his "diaper" with no legs, so it probably would be hard to do leg movement. And Peach's dress couldn't be articulated either.
I'll tell you someone who definitely got over Wario's weird look. Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario, Luigi, Wario and others of the ilk. He did some silly videos on his travels while carrying around Mario figures to do little skits in character, one of which being the Wario from this set
PatMac Mario. I got him from a garage sale. I believe his legs snapped off and his Kart came broken. Though tbh I never really enjoyed the figure. I'd LOVE to have him again, but I'm more interested in building a Sonic ReSaurus line.
Super Malleo Walleo Plush Adventures I guess, but the again Mr. L was in a result of brainwashing Luigi. I wouldn't consider someone evil because of brainwashing.
Yeah, he's a myth character, and he's pretty great. I don't know who started it, or how long ago the rumor was started though. It seems like he's always been a thing in the MK64 community.
This is LITERALLY the first time I have heard about Yoshi having a shell. It certainly looks like that, now that you mention it, but I always assumed it was a saddle.
I don't know if anyone else has pointed this out, but the Mario, Luigi and Wario figures and karts from this set were used in an early Robot Chicken sketch called 'Super Race'. I was wondering why they looked so familiar to me...
Remember that theory about the Sanei Mario Party 5 Luigi plush, the Kellytoy Luigi plush, and the Joyride Luigi figurine becoming insanely overpriced because CuteMarioBros, SuperMarioLogan, and Robot Chicken respectively made them all famous? I think it applies to the ToyBiz figurines too since they were also used in Robot Chicken. The Mario, Luigi, and Wario figurines were used in 3 Fast 3 Furious (AKA Super Race), while the Yoshi figurine was used in Grand Theft Mario, the same skit that used the Joyride Luigi.
Well done video, and pretty spot on for the most part, I think the only thing that was off was the items, I used to have all of them except for the ghost variant, and I remember the items not really working outside of it's intended character kart it came with as they each had their own specific grooves and indents on the stick part to have them fit. Why they made them all different(even the bananas for yoshi and DK were different) instead of just making them fit every kart was beyond me but it was a minor thing. But this was a really awesome set that were really built to last too; outside of the rubber strap to keep the characters in place, you had to really go out of your way to break them which for it's price was amazing and I wish i still had them. A very fun, and nostalgic set for sure!
awesome video man i love how detail you are!!! I actually found a Mario kart 64 toybiz figure (Mario) new on card at a thrift store for $5 i almost fainted when i saw it lol XD
Those figures were actually not from this Mario Kart 64 series. In the episode, the Mario figure used was based on the same game, but was an RC remote control kart sold in 2004, while the Luigi figure I actually just found out was from a Nintendo power action figure line for Luigi's mansion back in 2003. That Luigi figure is also very valuable, I haven't found a listing on it that isn't lower than $100!
A lot of the joints that you called ball joints weren't actually ball joints but rather a combination of hinge and swives. There is a swivel at at the shoulder, and his arm is on a hinge which is attached to a hole in the body through the use of a peg. Ball joints are usualy sculpted on the mold and not a seperate piece.
I wish I knew about these before because now a full set on eBay costs 300 dollars and that is them out of the box. Anyway great video I really enjoyed it

Even though they're sort of off or bootleg looking, I do love these figures and always admired them even after growing out of Mario. The amount of detail that went into rendering toys based off the promo art is really something, and they really went detailed. I think they went with the promos for characters like Bowser (considering he shows the most detail) because they could've been aware of the N64's limitations, and wanted to make not only figures that were really 3D like the promotional models rather than sprites, but also as HD and high quality versions of the sprites in general so kids would get an even better idea of what the toys were supposed to be. Something of note: I believe that rather than exclusively MK64, they also borrowed from the promos of SM64. Mario's face looks like a near exact 3D replica of his face from the game cartridge cover art of SM64, and Bowser I'd argue was also used from those renders because they showed more detail.
@@theoneandonly8403 He's a fucking war criminal who still hasn't faced the consequences oh his actions! Even his brothers ghost in Luigi's mansion didn't phase him. He feels no Guilt.

i bought those pull back racers for my son when i meet him and for my self to have on show .Brings back memories when played mario kart on n64 but now seeing what u have is what i wd have liked .
They should made these Mario karts Toad, Peach, and Waluigi
Never realized how iconic Toybiz was for our childhoods. Especially for the Sam Raimi Spider-Man toys
Since when is Luigi an antihero? 😂
Always
He shot and killed Mario in the Mushroom Holocaust of 1985. Theres your date.
@@theoneandonly8403 He's a fucking war criminal who still hasn't faced the consequences oh his actions! Even his brothers ghost in Luigi's mansion didn't phase him. He feels no Guilt.

The larger figures seem to be just 2-up prototypes not meant to be sold. You don't see those things as much today, the only companies I can think of that display them at conventions are NECA and Four Horsemen.
I ordered the whole set I just can't find yoshi or luigi for a decent price!!
i bought those pull back racers for my son when i meet him and for my self to have on show .Brings back memories when played mario kart on n64 but now seeing what u have is what i wd have liked .
