  • I am finally able to get a rental truck and tow Minitini the trailer out of harms way, after the threat of Hurricane Florence in North Carolina. I was able to do a meet up at Troegs Brewery in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and spend some time at the RV show before continuing towards Philadelphia.

My wife Kim and I ran into Robert at the Hershey show. Of course, I said "Robert, how is the KIA?". He was extra polite and explained it had problems. Yep, kind of like asking "how was the root canal at the dentist office?". Robert, you were a pleasure to meet, and I wish I would have said something to make your day better. We loved meeting you, and wish you the best

We pulled a large u-haul trailer of family possessions from central FL to Middle TN with the new diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee. We never noticed we were towing a trailer coming up Tennessee’s Monteagle Mountain, it never slipped out of overdrive and still got the same 30 mpg we usually got without towing. I did need backing instructions with such a short trailer, though!
You should seriously consider keeping that truck or one like it. One day you might get a bigger camper too!

I agree with George Gecko, another plus - if your vehicle breaks down on the road, you still have your RV to stay in, and being able to leave your RV parked and drive around in your hauling vehicle is nice. Look to American made trucks, they have been built for heavy hauling for many decades, foreign trucks do not always have the hauling capacity for personal-use trucks. The U.S. automakers have experience with greater hauling distances on our Interstate system, over greater geographical demands, with heavy loads (e.g. ranchers). Get a Consumer Reports Buying Guide to see what fails most commonly on each truck brand. Also, I like seeing your equanimity when driving through the gas pump island with the truck's gas cap on the other side, and just going with the flow, enjoying the trip and scenery, not letting the difficulties ruin the trip. Really enjoyed the switch in music at about 18:38 - Good job pointing out interesting details and mentioning historical details throughout the video. Great video as always - your vids just keep improving!

I'm so bummed I missed you at the Troegs Meetup, we were just driving all over Harrisburg looking for dinner. One thing I miss about living the the mid-state is Troeg's beer. And those rural roads? I test drove a 40' Tiffin (we'll definitely need something smaller) on those roads, not as bad as I expected, but I'm going to need to get used to driving something that has it's own gravitational field.

Another great production Robert, thanks a lot! I recommend you test drive a F-150, plenty of power and weight capacity for Mini Tini, however if you go Class B what will your daily driver be?

I have a 2017 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost. Pull a 21' trailer no problem. GET 4x4 not 2wd! You will bury the rear wheels in soft sand or gravel & get stuck! Fair warning... It's why you rarely see 4x2 on the road pulling campers.

Robert , thanks for another great video. If your looking into a new tow vehicle a Toyota Tacoma should haul mini tini just fine I have a 2014 Tacoma v6 and haul an rpod camper doesn't even feel like I'm towing a camper.

spectacular video! This is traveling! Also perhaps youd consider grabbing one of those trucks used for yourself? You seemed so happy with it!
Im on the literal eve of my own journey beginning in December. Buying my own class c and living the dream for a year or two. Im excited and scared beyond words. But then thats why we call it an adventure right?

I drive a 2015 Ford F-250 super cab, 8' bed with a 6.2 LTR BOSS gas motor. I pull an 8000 Lb trailer loaded and I can still put my 850 lb Harley in the truck. It pulls and handles like a dream. If at some later date I want to tow a fifth wheel, I can still do that. (I'm just not ready to give up the bike) Ford builds the tow features you need into the truck and there's tons of options to suit your needs. Having spent a good portion if my life fixing driveline components in trucks I can say with some authority, buy bigger than what you need! The 150 Ecoboost is great but there's no extra power. Sure it'll tow that trailer but the kind of traveling you do you'll want a bigger truck and if you ever want to get a bigger trailer? You'll already have enough truck to pull it.

Right on! I had a 2005 Ford F-250 Diesel, pulled my 32' travel trailer with no problem, didn't seem to use much more fuel pulling the trailer than driving without it. Some of the best times of my life were driving through the lower Rocky Mountain chain with that combo and my family. Forgot to mention - it was a 4-door Crew Cab.

That's an argument I wish I had won with my Mrs. We walked through 100 toy haulers, she shot everyone down because she "didn't want a garage for a living room" The set up I have now works just as well. I have a self loading bike ramp I can use by myself. Most times if we go far I can always rent a bike for a few days rather than dragging the bike out with me.

The fuel is less or about the same as a motorhome so for us, it's negligible. Having the power when you need it and the muscle to pull bigger loads dependably and safely makes the fuel use worth it. What are you driving now Ms.Sixty

Are you sure we were driving the same truck? Besides raw power that was the worst vehicle I've ever had the displeasure of driving. No turning radius, horrible ergonomics, low and uncomfortable sea, hesitating throttle and transmission... I'm definitely not buying a Ford.

Too bad you weren't able to come to New England to see the Fall foliage. Right now it's at its peak in the Northern part and next week, the peak will be in the central part. Oh well, Summers are very beautiful in New England too. Maybe you'll come up this way soon.

Mystery solved, lol. Bet the truck towed great on the highway, but backing and campground maneuvering would suffer from the longer wheelbase. The trailer tire wear, if only one, is either a loose bearing or bent spindle. Both are common. If the opposite tire wears oddly, then the axle is suspect. To add, I usually do my own car work, but have gotten lazy with age and have had Firestone do some work on my vehicles. A bearing went out after they replaced them and it was barely under warranty. They didn't hesitate to replace no cost to me.
