How to Visit Philadelphia with an RV: Liberty, Cheesesteaks, and Rocky - Traveling Robert

  • We find an unusual RV Park in the middle of Philadelphia. We see many of the obligatory historic sites including a bucket list visit to the Independence Hall. We join long time viewer Rob, from South Philly, and he shows us his home town from his own perspective, including eating some authentic Philly cheesesteak. We also follow in Rocky Balboa's footsteps, literally and climb the steps of the Art Museum. We finally get a panoramic view of the city from the Liberty One Observation Deck.

Sorry to do this but it is one of my pet peeves and drives me crazy , so please forgive me : an fellow...NO ...its "a " fellow..not "an"...it would be AN american, AN ancient culture , an adorable kid.... can you hear the difference... "an" objective outlook ... you wouldn't say "a" objective outlook ...would you ?
      Only use " an" if the next word starts with a vowel : (in other words ) a, e, i, o, u
      For example : an apple,
an elephant , an intern, an octopus, an unknown...hear it ?
      Use " a " if followed by a consonant... meaning those hard sounding letters. : b , c as in cat , d , f , g , h, j, k...
      For example : a baby, a cat , a dog , a french fry... do you say
" an " french fry ?... probably not... it is a french fry ... do you say
" an " milkshake ? Probably not... it is supposed to be a milkshake... how about chocolate chip cookie... do you say "an" chocolate chip cookie ?... it's supposed to be a chocolate chip cookie.
I have a feeling that English IS actually your FIRST language... I'm not sure where you grew up but rarely do I see people using this... and I'm sorry but it just drives me crazy.
I'm not trying to be mean I just want you to know how to speak properly because it might help you somewhere along the line whether it's a job interview or doing a presentation in front of important clients .

Robert, thanks for bringing back great memories of our own tour of Philadelphia. Really glad you showed the inside of Independence Hall. We were there at a very busy time and did not have the time in our schedule to wait for the tour that we could get tickets for. Ah well, maybe next time, as you like to say. I really appreciate you saying that it is a great privilege to live in America. In this day of "hate America" thinking, it is good to know there are people who can still appreciate the freedoms and privileges we still have here. Love all your videos, but I think this one is now my favorite. Thanks!

Thx Robert. I worked in Philly for 10 years and my office was in the 45th floor of One Liberty. Center City during the week was always bustling. Geno’s is the best bc they don’t chop the steak into pieces. :).

      Dave B
Jim's steaks used to be better than Pat's and Geno's back in the day... what I'm talking about early and mid 1980s ...Jim's were huge.. just simply loaded with everything and the best tasting. I'm talking about the Jim's Steaks that was over near St. Joe's University ,off of City Line Avenue... I don't know about the one over on South Street.

Great travelogue Robert. I haven't been to Philly, I'll have to make it sometime. What always amazes me is when you look at the furniture in Independence Hall (around time 42:20) is how thin the furniture wood was made and especially the backrests. People must have been a lot lighter in those early years. I've noticed the same thing in old museum mansions and places like that where the furniture looks like it would barely hold together if anyone sat in it. Ben Franklin might have had a problem.

In 1979, my friends an I went to Philly. There was no building for the bell.
We just walked up to it. I ran my hand over the bell. Times have changed.
Remember friends, our first president was British.
Darn right, we don't get the good bread, pizza, bagals, etc. It is the hard, yucky water down here.
I miss the Brookly bread! It was baked in brick oven. Everyone shoud see the movie, Moonstruck!

Loved the video. I lived in the Roxborough-Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia for 4 years before moving to Kendall in Miami in 2014 and your tour brought back so many fun memories. Rob did an excellent job showing you around. Philadelphia really does need more then a day or 2 to explore. So much more to see. One thing I do have an issue with is Rob not stopping at Jim’s Steaks lol. Best cheesesteak ever. Second place is Dalessandro’s. Next time you’re in Philadelphia check out Boat House Row, Kelly Drive and the Manayunk area for excellent dining and drinking choices. Hope to see you on the road one day.

Is Geno working for Genos Steaks? Pat's and Genos are ranked nos.67 and 68 in the top 100 cheesesteaks. Melted wit? When ordering just say the cheese you want and wit(h) if you want fried onions . Sharp provolone with is how you order a cheesesteak with melted sharp provolone and onions.the cheese is always melted, never say "melted wit".

To my knowledge Philly didnt have any public observation deck options until 3 or so years ago. When the Comcast -innovation for tech building finally opens you should have have a higher view of the city but it will come at a price.

Another outstanding travel vlog video. You have come a long way in your videos. Professional quality and editing. This one was particularly meaningful to me. I was born in Philadelphia, but moved to Tampa as a baby. I had the opportunity to visit Phili and stay with my great aunt, who lived in Hopkinson House, an older high rise condo right on Washington Square. From her rear balcony we could see the old church and cemetery across the street. She and her husband used to live on Elfreths Alley. When she went to Sunday morning church with friends, I walked the areas, taking photos. When she returned home she was very upset that I, as a 30 something year old lady, had walked around by myself as she said there were questionable people that could be dangerous. There was one man in Washington Square who got weird and hid from me as I was taking photos. I hope to travel there in 2020 and do some genealogy research. Thanks for bringing us such enjoyable and superb videos.

Excellent Robert! I’m curious if the Italian market is where the older Rocky shopped for his restaurant. Hoping you would have found his restaurant while you were there. Great Vlog as always. Looking forward to NYC.

I used to work at the art museum. They do over ten thousand people a day. And that is on a bad day

It would be great to live in one of those houses on the alley but it would be irratating because everytime you step outside you'd have people taking pictures and staring.

I enjoyed your video of my city Philadelphia. I'm sad to say, you've done more things in a few days than i've done living here. I guess when you live here, you take all of those things for granted.

$4 for a softie. I was a kid in Overbrook neighborhood of Philly in the 60's and when we played the Mr. Softie truck came every afternoon. I am sure $4 would be unaffordable for kids now every afternoon
