Rocket science is so difficult it has its own idiom. If you want your children to become rocket scientists they’ll need to listen to their teachers and work incredibly hard. If you want access to the whenua then don’t lease it to a rocket company.
It's kind sad how petty those people are.

I can see both sides to this. But I mean, of course they have to exclude people during windows or people can get killed. And you can't expect high paying jobs with a company like that if you don't have the skills to match. 😐

This is the most ridiculous and pathetic thing I've ever seen. Here we are at the cutting edge of technology and you get these zero value-add citizens complaining. Typical. One can only hope they don't scare away future high tech, innovative investment.
What has Rocket Lab done for these people, who have given up access to their holy sites? Built schools? Improved housing? Given back to the community? What? 18 million is nothing. Do they get a % of each launch?
@@jflow5601 They didn't give anything up. They agreed to lease the land to RocketLab, now they regret their decision, nothing shouts "stupid" more than these people. As my late father would say, what did they expect? Something irrational no doubt because they're as well educated as your average rock.

@@jflow5601 on top of them paying taxes that goes directly to befitting the people, thats already a thing called publicly traded stock lol, whenever the company has a success the stock price goes up and Rocket Lab is famously the first private rocket company to have one. if they want in they should buy some stock.
you dont see any natives on the launch sight because anyone on the launch sight will all die from the force of the rocket even if it goes perfectly, best case they would get burst ear drums and go deaf, the vibrations and pressure created by the engines alone are enough to kill, which is partly why NASA has water continuously pumped under the engines to dampen the noise for their larger more powerful rockets. Rocket Lab employees dont even get to be on the launch sight before or during any launch
the company pays the local goverment for the land they rent from them. a landlord cant charge or take a cut out of the people they rent from every time that person gets a bonus or a raise from work, thats now how it works anywhere in the world.
its a private company not a goverment institution, no one has a right to the company or its profits except for its employees and shareholders (shareholders are what you call people who own stock in the company, which is openly traded any anyone can buy) it has no obligation anywhere to do anything else. get off your high horse and. stop defending random Kerens who dont like the noise
We need Rocket Lab more than these petty concerns have merited. They can certainly reconcile without protest.

@@scottslotterbeck3796 I don't support the protesters but Rocket Lab isn't going to pack up operations to the US completely, they are building another launch site in New Zealand, are committed to keeping some operations in New Zealand and they are incredibly wanted in New Zealand.
I know nothing about rockets. I do however know that it is hard to protest if you have a job and are a contributing member of society.

They are not happy they are not being given money. This is political pressure for RL to write them more checks in addition to the lease terms.

No, actually it is not.
We were chosen because of lack of competition for clear airspace and the ability to splash down rocket stages with out major nautical consideration.
Rocketlabs is a US/Kiwi company and always had intention in the plan to have US presence as well as on the peninsula.
Come back to the USA and let the Maori have their sheep.

Rocketlabs is a joint project but it started here in Auckland and therefore can not 'go back' to the USA because it NEVER came from there.
Maori have sheep only as a consequence of English settlement; we are more farmers of the sea and foragers of the vegetation and wild animals of the land.
Boar, Deer and Goat not sheep.
There are only a 1000 of us (Pakhia and Maori) off season that call Mahia home and the population swells dramatically during holidays with visitors which are mainly respectful Pakhia.
I hope you stay in the USA and never visit, we do not need any more overweight uninformed Americans damaging where we are so privileged to live.

Something funny is happening in Mahia and it's only been happening since the rocket lab appeared. There was 7 funerals due to heart attacks within a month, the sea food is becoming scarce and the land is breaking. None of that happened before the lab. The contract was also broken by the launching of military vessels. Yep, something funny happening in my home.
How can you tie that to Rocket Lab? Thats the most outrageous thing I have ever heard.

Yea but Rocket Lab is committed to focus more heavily on New Zealand's launch pads.
Low Air Traffic.
Low population density.
More availability of space Launch Angles which is the main reason New Zealand has been very attractive in the Space Industry.
More easy to launch.
And a very accommodating agency and quite a capable skill pool.
And Rocket Lab is building another launch site in New Zealand so this isnt that big of a deal.
Back in the day natural selection would have taken care of people like this.

Laughable - I guess the locals think a few classes in Matauranga Maori is enough to become a "Rocket Scientist " maybe ? Rocket lab should Relocate to the States and leave the locals to their sheep and what remains of the crayfish off Mahia .
The local iwi have never been so well off. The Trust income is better than it has ever been. There is a history to this bit of internal strife and part of the story, is like any other story. For the truth to be the truth it has to meet the courts definition “The Truth, The whole Truth, and Nothing but the Truth. Some tv show will never address that.
You can't please everyone and there will always be small mindedness.
hey, the US is more than willing to accept yet another private space company and hell, probably give them massive incentives for it too. and from the looks of it, taking the countries only real means of space capability with it
Sorry but Rocket Labs is still committed to operating in both countries, hence why they have opened another launch site in New Zealand.
As well as having a control HQ and manufacturing facility stationed here which doesn't just service Rocket Lab but 6 other space companies in New Zealand as well as the New Zealand space agency.
In terms of incentives well New Zealand isn't doing too bad, both geographically and financially e.g low population density, low Air Traffic, larger window and choices of rocket launch angles to space, and quite good funding from the government makes it a very attractive place to launch into space hence why companies from 25 different countries have expressed interest and investment.
Rocket lab already built and soon will be launching from wallops Virginia. It is called Launch Complex 2.
