Camped since I was in gramer school. My grandpa and grandma would take me camping all summer long. They would often just leave me and go home to take care of the orchard and duties around the house. I could take care of myself, have my limit of trout before lunch and go climb a mountain with the rest of the day. True. Always loved to get out in the woods, looked for Bigfoot but never found him. I don't think he could have kept up with my energy. The mountains give you peace and rest, never been fearful, ever. I'm 62 overcome terminal cancer, thank you Lord Jesus and still love to go camping. Camping to me is, heaven on earth.🤠🏔️🌤️☄️

Please, please don’t take down your scary videos. 🙏 They are great ones to watch while camping around Halloween time! The one you made called “He broke inside my camper while I was inside” was a big hit! And I would love to show it again next time. It really did scare me the first time I watched it as you did not indicate it was fake. Fabulous job at that video! Thank you for making it! 🤗♌️

Great video with good advice. I've been camping for recreation year-round in Arizona since 1996 (summer camps in forests, winter camps in deserts). My suggestions to those who are interested in solo camping: Go with a friend first to build confidence about being in the outdoors (compile and check off a gear list), then go on that solo trip soon afterwards and enjoy it. A few solo trips and you'll be a pro about going out into the outdoors. Want to try a new area to camp, go pre-run it first with a day trip to see what's around, then go conquer it with a solo camping trip. All boils down to doing some research about where you're going, and having the confidence in your abilities to be out there solo for a trip. I make trips fun with different menu planning... weather looks great to be outside, then I'm grilling... weather looks dreary and cold, then I'm crockpotting (or slow dutch oven cooking). Also, get a good weather app that you like and trust, then use it to check forecasts for your solo camping planning. I've had great remote solo trips sleeping in the bed of a pickup knowing there was no rain in the forecast, and I've had great trips sleeping in the camper knowing it was going to rain all weekend. Finally, always let someone know where you are and when you'll be back while on any camping trip (I use a Garmin inReach mini to communicate while away). Thanks for showing us how beautiful Arizona is, Larry! If you happen to see a goofy guy drinking beer and telling lies around a campfire, then that's me! Cheers! Ha ha ha I guess I’ll leave the videos up because enough people have told me not to take them down. My thought behind taking them down was that it brings so many people in that want to watch scary videos and I don’t really plan on doing scary videos in the future, and when you get people to subscribe to your channel that don’t watch it, it hurts your numbers. The one scary video alone has gotten me 3000 subscribers and now none of those 3000 subscribers watch my videos.

    Greetings from New York City,
Just found your channel and have really been enjoying some of your videos, so I thought I would comment on this one. You make really great points about most of the fear that we make up in our heads are never going to happen, so why not just get out there and try it. As a Black woman from a major city, I probably and rightfully have a few more concerns than most about being alone on the open road, but I've decided that this Spring/Summer I'm going to venture out to just finally get it over with. What other people may feel about me is not my concern. I have a right to live my life happily and peacefully just like everyone else. Again, great videos. I Subscribed 🙂

Hi Larry. Larry here. A lot of people get their fears from camping horror movies. I, myself never solo camped. It would’ve been an experience but in the day people would want to visit. I would have to make an excuse I’ll be busy. Now, I couldn’t do solo trip. Due to health issues I have, someone is needed in case I have an emergency and need to go to On Call. Also phone reception would help. I try not to think negative like this, but this scenario could happen. My wife really wants you to go camping again and I do too but we’ll see what happens with me. This was a good video and your content was excellent. Keep up good work. We got some wild weather here in Florida coming through.

I agree, doing some camping alone can do so much for the peace of mind. Even if your camping with a bunch of people or a few, take off and go on a quiet walk. Yes, the sounds out in outside world can make one a bit jumpy, but Yes you will grow more accustomed to it. At least out in the fresh open air you have that room to breathe and think or just sit there and vegetate and become so relaxed.😊

I have been camping some 30 years and I have to say i have never had an issue while camping in the wild. I have had issues while camping in town a few times. but most times is was just kids messing around. I always have protection for those just in case times and I have a pitbull that will give her life for me. I prefer to camp alone most times but do get with friends now and again. I guess it's really how your raised . If you use common sense you will be ok most times. This was a good subject to bring up.

Another great video, Larry! I'll never forget the first time I went camping alone out in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. I don't think I slept more than 10 minutes. Every sound caused my imagination to jump to crazy conclusions ("was that sound a cougar or a rabbit?") . Fortunately, it only takes a couple of times out until you become comfortable with all the natural noises (and the silence). Anyway, looking for to your next video.

I’m a grandma tent camping with my 12 yr old granddaughter at a state park last summer. It was our first camping experience. During the night a lot of activity happened around the tent with lots of poking at the tent and the sounds of walking around the tent. I was scared to death. Granddaughter slept through it. It felt safer to stay in the tent. When it got light out I got brave enough to go outside the tent and there were 7 deer still in my campsite. They stayed quite a while and people took pics as they walked by the campsite. We didn’t have any food that would have attracted them. Anyway, I worked up my courage to do my first solo camp a couple months later and loved it.

This is great advice. I've been camping alone so long I forgot some of these tips. People put too much expectations on camping out. They try to homestead on a weekend camp. Just buy some fried chicken on you're way out, don't build a fire if you don't want too, have twice the bedding so your warm and eat breakfast at a diner in the morning. Keep it simple.

I like that you tell it as it is. No showing off or pretending like you know everything. I always look forward to your videos. I probably get out 2-3 times a year to camp, but I only own a tent. One time I was in Globe up on Pinal Peak before the fires and in the middle of the night I was woken by a mountain lion screaming. It gave me the chills, but it definitely does not keep me from getting back out there!

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with the tent! I actually just bought another tent a few days ago and plan on doing a tent camping video here shortly. There’s something about tent camping which you just can’t get in an RV.
That would definitely be creepy to hear in the middle of the night but I’m glad it’s not stopping you from going again!
Thanks so much for watching 🙏 😊

Great video Larry! Hopefully it will inspire others to try a solo camping trip. I've been camping alone all over Arizona for the last 30 years or so. Most of my solo trips are hunting trips that last for up to 12 days or so. Never had any issues with animals other than a skunk or two up in the Flagstaff area during an Elk hunt. I have had a couple of times where I had illegals either come into camp or pass close by when I've been on hunting g trips near the Southern border in the Sasabe and Arivaca area. But I have really enjoyed camping solo. It's hard to explain how it makes you feel until you do it.
I do, however, always carry a sidearm when I'm out by myself or when my wife goes with me.
Keep doing what you're doing. You're videos are great!

But anyways, you are right, there is just something about camping alone. That is hard to explain to people. It’s definitely a feeling that I don’t get anywhere else.

I always enjoy your videos. I have three questions: 1) When you pull up to a potential camp site and walk around it...what is it that would give you a bad vibe and make you move on? 2) What is something that would spook you in the middle of the night and make you pull up camp and skadoodle? 3) While cooking your chicken in the skillet in this video...what was/is the red light blinking over your right shoulder, off in the distance. Mason is super cool. I had a long hair Chihuahua that recently passed away at 16 1/2 years. Great video!

    • @worklessenjoylifemore
      @worklessenjoylifemore  10 місяців тому

I don’t know if there’s any one thing in particular I’m looking for when I get to a campsite, I just sort of walk around and see if I feel comfortable there. Sometimes I’ll look for animal prints on the ground to see if there’s any bear or large cat prints but other than that I just go off my gut feeling if I like the area.
As for something scaring me enough to leave in the middle of the night, I think people scare me more than animals, so maybe if I had someone come up to my camp and mess with me in the middle of the night, then I would probably leave.
That red light that was behind me, was a cell phone tower that was about a mile away.
Thank you so much for watching and I hope these answer your questions. 🏕️ 😊

Honestly, I have tried everything and cannot get those marks off from his eyes. Even the last time he was at the groomer, they couldn’t get them off. I think they’re just permanently stained.
Oh you definitely gotta get a cast-iron! They’re a little different cooking than regular pans, but they’re plenty of videos online showing how to use them and once you practice a few times they are just fun and nostalgic to use.

Hi Larry from Tennessee! Love your videos and Mason! You are just "real." As now an elderly female who used to camp alone in a campground near home, I had a simple trick for making it appear as those there were 2 of us there. Kept the site minimal but used 2 chairs and a dish towel I moved around on the extra chair. Wadded in the seat as having being sat in, over the arm as just having eaten, etc. the worst critter I ever had was a man who snored so loud it would drawn windows inside out! Most of us in the area got up about 3 am, stoked the fire and made s'mores! Since none of us had duct tape it really turned into a nice overnight social time!

Hi Larry! I think it is a little different for women to camp alone and I'm pretty sure you have a lot of women viewers. I'm a woman and I camp with my horse alone. I go to horse campgrounds in Oregon, CA and Az and there are usually other people around with horses too. I still take precautions like having some privacy in my spot if possible, setting up 2 chairs and leave 2 drinks out. I have a CHL and carry. Mainly for protection from wildlife as I have had bear and wolf encounters while riding. I'm not scared anymore like I was at first but miss talking to someone as my husband doesn't like camping anymore 😕 but I still have fun! 😊

That is so awesome to hear! Like Joe said they do make small truck campers, but chances are it would be still pushing the limits once you pack all the gear that you need. But I’m sure you can make it happen!
Like he said, a class C would probably be best. Not to mention safer, so you can just run into the driver seat and drive away if you need to in case of emergency.

I love to camp, sleeping outside is my favorite thing to do. So if you can sleep under the stars, do it. Waking up to look at the stars as the earth turns is beauy you just can't miss. Plus you can look for the satilites going by, they're all on the same trajectory, and you'll be surpised how many there are. Stay safe and sane, but go live in the real world.

Hey Larry and Mason! Another great video! It's like I always say, pay attention to your surroundings. And always go with your gut! I've been solo camping for 3 years now. I might not always be somewhere alone, but I do spend my nights at my camp alone. I travel alone, and am very observant of people I see whenever I stop for gas or what not. I have been in places that I was completely alone for a period of time. I have a few things up for security that makes an uneasy feeling not take control of my brain when and if I hear something. I do know people that say they could never do what I do, but I also find it more peaceful on the road and in the woods, around a fire. I truly hope this video helps some of your subscribers that are truly wanting to do this. Even if they only do it once. Go Mason, Go Mason, GO!
