That's the thing with this hobby, you just never can tell what's going to be unearthed from beneath the soil, even after hundreds and sometimes thousands of years! This was one of those metal detecting hunts that I wasn't expecting! - Розваги
Here's the link to the pdf file which gives details on late Anglo-Saxon and Viking Age Strap Ends. discovery.ucl.ac.uk/id/eprint/1317562/1/248475.pdf
Hi Andy, just feeling like such little things in life have so much meaning when you sit down, slow down and look and listen. Thanks for that, your work is appreciated!
Thanks very much. This is why I enjoy finding artifacts as much as I do, many many years ago those finds were likely to be someone's prized possession and they probably had them for a long period of time. They must have been upset when they lost them. 👍
hi Andy...well done with those finds...the big chunky piece of lead is possibly a palm guard...all the best GL&HH Gordon.
Thanks Gordon, I don't know why I didn't think of that! I've found palm guards before but they were bigger, I suppose it would depend on the person who was using it 😄
Thanks Andy. Very much enjoyed that buddy. Some great pieces there 😉
Hi Del,, I had a lucky spell buddy, sometimes (but not often) if goes that way. Thanks very much 😉
Great video - nice to see you out and what wonderful finds ! The pipe bowl was a nice surprise and such a small one meant it has quite some age to it. A hammered and Anglo-scandanavian relics - excellent ! All the best !
Hi Troy, I couldn't believe my luck when I found out what some of the finds were. It's quite frustrating when you fund something, but you just can't say with confidence what if is.😉👍
Brilliant and historical finds. Congratulations! And thanks for taking us along. Slainte 🍻
Cheers to you Jim, thanks very much as always. Hope that you are keeping well 👍🙂
Excellent finds and video as always Andy 👍keep um coming mate your channel is as it should be👍all about the hobby and finding history 👏👏👏👏
Cheers Rob, that's what I love with the hobby buddy, you never know where a find and the research may lead you 👍
@@TerraBritannia same here I love history and the relics are top for me anything else is a bonus👍
@@robquince3076 Absolutely Rob 🙂
Great, great video. I love to see the ancient finds. We just don't find the older items here in the US. Thanks so much. Terry Greenway (Columbia, Tennessee USA)
Hi Terry, yes we're very lucky in one respect with if being a small island, many people over the years will have walked the same footsteps as we do now. Thanks very much for your comment, it's appreciated. 🙂
Very nice finds Andy! You worked for them! Super hammered and Roman ring! Congrats Sir and great video as usual!! 👍👍👍
Thanks very much Ray, I had a really nice selection finds this time, it's not often that it goes that way 😀
Great finds enjoyed the video
Thanks mate, I very much appreciate that. Wishing you all the best 👍
Great video Andy. Some lovely finds there and the strap end is a beaut. Nice and chilled and it was like being out with you on the day. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Daniel, that's really good of you. I'm just an ordinary bloke doing what lots of us enjoy doing. All the very best buddy 👍
Some lovely artifacts and a early well put together film, fantastic 👍
Hi Border Searcher, many thanks for your kind comment buddy. Wishing you all the best 👍
Brilliant finds well done and glad to hear Simon Maslin is helping you out with ID’s - he’s a legend 👍
Thanks Simon, yes he's been very helpful with some of my finds. Cheers buddy 👍
Some amazing finds there. Well done.
Thanks for uploading. 😀
Thanks very much Daniel, that's very kind of you buddy 😀
Lovely finds Andy, thanks for sharing
Thanks a lot Penny 🙂
Excellent hunting again Andy, green with envy on some of those 'gems' 👍🏻😍 Nice change to see you with a hammered 😁🏆
Ha ha, thanks a lot Mike, it's not often that I seem to find them around here. Hopefully it won't be such a long wait for the next one 🙏 All the best buddy.
Great selection of finds, that strap end was lovely and the ring too, nice one 😁
Thanks Ed, it's going through the treasure process right now. 👍🙂
Great job as usual really enjoyed the video great finds, catch you on the next one. 🇺🇸
Hi Fred, I definitely had a lot of luck this time around. I don't mind digging up the shorties and lead as long as something decent comes up eventually. Thanks buddy 😉
Enjoy your great hunts and excellent find.
Hi Alan, thank you very much for watching another hunt video, I did get lucky didn't I? No promises for the next one though 😄
Hi Andy , some nice stuff there mate that palm guard is a little ( OR BIG ) belter and the strange coin item with the notches and the hole has been made into a love token pal , nice hammered coin lovely Medieval harness mount and Roman ring , the ancient buckle is lovely but the best by far is the strap end it's a lovely find , it did look bloody cold to anyway good video pal ATB Rob .👍
Thanks a lot Rob, if didn't turn out too bad in the end did it and if was worth the soaking 😀 😉 Good fortune was on my side, especially so on the impromptu visit to the field on my way home. All thebesf Rob, I'll look forward to your next video. It's a rotten forecast here for the weekend, so it may be a while before I get out again. We'll see.
Some cracking finds there ! Well done 👏
Eyup son, thanks very much. I hope you have some good luck on your next detecting session. Thanks for the gloves, they're just the job 🙂👍
I always enjoy your videos and this one doesn't disappoint. Some lovely finds there well done. Looking forward to the next 👍
Thanks Steve, I think I might struggle to follow this one up as the finds were so unexpected. I'll have a go though 🙂
So lovely to see you back, I just love your videos, thank you. At 64 and some medical issues I don't get out as much as I used to so really look forward to you posting 👍
Hi Adrian, that really is very kind of you and I do appreciate your comment. It certainly gets harder as we age doesn't it? I can tell you that I'm feeling the effects too. Wishing you all the very best buddy. 🙂
Hi Andy really nice and interesting finds well done 👍🏻
Hi Jason, that's very much appreciated buddy! Thanks very much for watching the video and for your comment, it's nice to know that I'm not just talking to myself 😄
A very good hunt good research 👍👍👍👍
Thanks very much Catherine, I do love the research when it works out 🙂
Hi andy some nice older bits always nice to get some early pieces shame the intaglio wasnt on the ring and that strap end fantastic mate 👍😁
Cheers Keith, I couldn't believe my luck buddy. I won't have that permission for long as it's going to be sold soon, I need to get some more visits in ASAP 👍
Very nice finds! Congrats.
Thanks buddy, hope you are keeping well? 👍
Great artifacts (artefacts) and associated historical research. Hello from Indiana, USA. New subscriber, but I have detected since 1978. I use a Equinox 800 and am awaiting delivery of a Deus 2. Good luck and looking forward your videos. My ancestry is from Wales 4 generations back (Rice and/or Rhyes(?) surname).
Hi Les, thank you very much for watching the video and of course for posting your comment. 👍Wales has some beautiful scenery and I love the Welsh accents too. Tidy!
I think I enjoy the research almost as much as finding the artefacts, it's a very interesting past-time. All the very best from North Yorkshire.
Amazing finds Andy. That viking strap end is absolutly a belter. You really find the good old stuff. Can’t wait for the next one. GL&HH Erik.
Hi Erik, you know all about the good finds mg friend, I've a long way to go before I reach you're level of finds 😉 Wishing you all the best and good fortune on your next metal detecting outing.
What artifacts you find! Congratulations, especially for the research.
Hi Mitch and thanks very much for your comment. I did get lucky on the day, most of my fields don't have such old finds, unless they're buried too deep and I've missed them. 😅
Some great finds there great video
Thanks a lot Andy 👍
That Viking strap end !!
It's a little beauty isn't it? Cheers Paul 😉
Some great finds Andy especially the Viking strap end, a fantastic find. Anything Viking is on my bucket list so fingers crossed for me finding something 🤞
Oh Mel, I was so over the moon with that one. Thanks very much and I hope that you find your Viking treasure very soon 😊
Some great finds there 😊 congrats
Thanks a lot Jan, a lot of luck was involved 😄
I needed this today. Cheers!
Ha ha, me too Derek! I don't often get finds like that. All the very best buddy and thank you 😊
Awesome that you found the Roman ring and Viking strap end! I recognized the age of the pipe bowl and was glad you found out. Small bowls because tobacco was quite pricey back then. That big hunk of lead I am sure someone has already told you is a palm guard. The guard and the open ended thimble....all you need is a needle and some string and you are good to go. Great batch of goodies.
Ha ha, thanks again buddy. Yes I had good fortune on my side didn't I? If only all the hunts turned out the same way (but then it would soon get boring). Alltwen very best and thank you for watching 😉
Wonderful finds 👌
Thanks very much buddy, all the best 👍
Your strapend was a dream find for me mate. Quality.
You're right there buddy, I am so pleased to have found that lovely artifact and I still can't believe my good luck after what felt likd a long and tiring detecting session. All it takes is for one nice find to change the mood. 🙂
Well done bud brilliant video as always..
Thanks very much Chris 😀
Nice early pipe bowl Andy, about 1660. There may be a maker's stamp on the bottom of the bowl.
Thanks Stu, I've had a good look but there doesn't appear to be anything there. :)
Hi Andy, brilliant stuff and I love the saxon strap end find. The big lead piece is a leas palm guard. Had loads that shape. Domed to fit in your palm. I would keep digging on that field as it has real potential.
Rick buddy, only 2 days ago I was looking on your channel and I wondered how you were doing. I hope that when the time is right, you'll be back with more of your excellent videos. Until then mate, wishing you all the very best! 👍🙂
Thanks mate. I will be back one day. Started a new job and never get the time to do the videos tbh. Bought a 7k mountain bike and have been into that for a year now but only recently have gone back to detecting. Started watching your channel again.....you really have come on leaps and bounds. Keep up the good work Andy. 👍
Thanks Rick, it's great to hear that you're doing well mate. I'll keep a look out for your next video buddy 🙂
Hi Rick , i keep looking as well just to make sure i haven't missed anything it's 11 months now mate ! anyway i hope all is good with you see you soon pal ATB Rob, 🙋♂
Big round lead. A Palm guard for sewing
In leather. Nice ring.🔝🤣👍
Thanks Toni, yes it must have been now that it's been pointed out to me. I should have worked that out 🙂
Nice video. The strap end is fantastic! Congrats and thanks for share it.
Many thanks Ricard, I appreciate you taking the time to post your comment and for watching the video. :)
Hi Andy, really appreciate your videos, full of researched items which makes it so interesting. This last video has been especially interesting, so keep up the good work - I shall definitely keep watching. Regards Mike
Hi Mike, many thanks for saying that, I do appreciate it. Despite it being a quiet field overall, I did get very lucky this time around. All the very best 🙂
Hi, some nice finds there. The item at 8.30 and 16.39 isn't a watch winder it's a Medieval slide type strap fitting circa 1270 - 1400. Here's one I found: SWYOR-20DE99
Well blow me down, I'd no idea it was a medieval strap slide! Thanks so much for letting me know. Brilliant 👏
Great finds you definitely had a few great hunts I had a nice treat the other day I got to hold a Bronze Age rapier that was found some years ago
Thanks very much buddy. The BA Rapier is rather special, was the blade found in one piece? 👍
@@TerraBritannia yes just missing Handel 👍👍
@@mehentaldetectorists7064 Nice. I have found 2 parts of z BA Rapier, just missing the pointy end now 😄
hi i,ve come across your channel and i hope you dont mind me following you. loads of videos to catch up on but loving them already
Hj Mike, it's very kind of you to follow my channel and I do appreciate it! I hope they don't disappoint. 🙂 All the best, Andy.
One for you flo because the coin has been deliberately pierced so could class as treasure 👍
Yes absolutely, it'll go through the process. Cheers buddy 👍
Disclaimed as treasure.
@@TerraBritannia that was quick to be disclaimed 🤔 but that’s good anyway
@@lincolnshiredetecting5812 Yes it's good news, I can straighten it out at some point 😉
The info on the PAS re pierced coins does point out that not all of them would be classed as treasure as some were still being circulated as coins, it would be a different story if it was a pre 1180 coin though (I think J have that date right. My full time FLO is off until April, so treasure cases are being dealt with by a temp. She's on the ball and doing a good job.
@@TerraBritannia nice my flo is struggling here in Lincolnshire as she’s the only one and 2 volunteers everything takes ages to go through the system I’ve got a purse spill of Eddie pennys that was disclaimed nearly year ago and still not go them back
Some wonderful finds - and a really enjoyable video, thank you for sharing. Do you take a grid ref on the off chance the find may be one for the FLO?
Hi Diane, thanks very much as always. Re the grid reference, I do record them on my phone, at least when I find something that I think will be of interest to the FLO.👍
@@TerraBritannia Thanks for confirming - I guessed you would. I've had experiences with detectorists who angrily refuse to take grid refs - because they've not been asked for them.
@@dianejohnston3733 My own FLO is off until June, but we have someone in position purely on a part time basis for any treasure cases. My FLO is going to have one heck of a backlog to deal with when she returns though.
It looks like runes on the Scandinavian buckle.
Thanks James, it's a possibility isn't it? 👍
@@TerraBritannia yes sir. A very remarkable find to say the least. I live in the U.S. and dream of detecting in England. Hopefully soon it shall be. I can't wait to see your next hunt and googluck
@@jameslusco6653 Cheers James, this farm will soon be up for sale so I can only consider it to be a temporary permission, I'm hoping to get back there as much as I can before the sale goes through though. The weather over here in North Yorkshire is looking quite poor for this week, but fingers crossed I'll be back before too long. All the very best and thanks again. 🙂
🙂
Hi Val 👋 🙂
Not a watch winder, it's a medieval strap end.
Thanks buddy, every day is a school day 🙂
Can you tell me what gloves you have thanks and wear to get them
Hi John, my son bought them for me as a Christmas preseie. If you search for 'Airsoft Gloves', you should be able to find some very similar. Hope that helps buddy. 👍
@@TerraBritannia thank you for you help amazon have got them just ordered them love your blog have learnt a lot from them thanks
Great stuff 🙂
your pendant dates to 1324
Thanks mate, where did you manage to find the info? 👍
medieval horse pendant looks like a bird of prey at time of impact on lets say s rabbit but who can put this pun a name but mudslinger
I really haven't a clue buddy, I thought I could see a figure of some sort, but the more I looked at it the less it made sense 😅
@@TerraBritannia i have and save you the stress
