    I absolutely LOVE the 76. This is such a beauty and I’d so love to have one myself.

    I drove a 1976 Fleetwood Brougham DeElegance back in the day.
    It was Persian Sand with matching interior and vinyl top. What a car, so comfortable. 1976 was the last year of Cadillac. Nothing Cadillac makes today comes even close.

      You need to be corrected. 1976 was not ! the last year of the GMC division " Cadillac ."

    My aunt bought a white 1976 Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance new in Birmingham Al in the summer of 1976. If I remember correctly, hers had a white vinyl roof and I think the sticker on it was around $12,000. At the time there was some sort of problem getting tires, so hers was delivered without a spare tire - it was delivered later when it became available. The only problems I remember her having a trouble with the load leveling suspension and. of course rust. Thanks for posting this. It really brought back some great memories of my favorite aunt and uncle.

    Always loved a Fleetwood. They had such style and elegance! I'm thinking that if I owned that car, I think I'd leave it with a slick roof and not put a vinyl top on it at all! I'd be afraid of causing it to start rusting from underneath it!

      Yeah, that one was definitely ordered without that silly vinyl top. Those vinyl tops look ok for a while but they always start looking like crap and once you put one on, you'll always have to re-vinyl it. I'd leave it the way it was ordered! I don't know why someone would want one of those when they just cause rust.

      Having a vinyl roof is a double edged sword. They look very elegant, but the rust issue is real. The biggest problem is that Cadillac did not paint the roof on these cars from factory. They were destined to rust... all of them!

    The rain was a help, but after a hand wash and some minor detailing on the exterior, looks great and the tires just made it that much better. So once you get that inside detailed, you've got a nice one. I can deal with dirty older all original but not a torn up one/money pit. That hood ornament was the star on the tree! Hope you show more of it later as it progresses. White vinyl is a good choice but I remember more seeing the blue vinyl tops with the blue interiors (on many GM luxury models not just Cad's from this era). Nice to have a choice though!

    9:40 apply a stitched leather wheel cover. I put one of those on my 75 deville. It makes it feel much more luxurious as well.
    The tops were typically not painted under the vinyl. I suspect the top was painted during a respray. But, the vinyl must have been sliced off leaving the bright trim in place. I’d love to see it with no vinyl or bright trim!

    It's a Fleetwood, all Fleetwood's came with vinyl tops it was considered extra jewelry back in the day!
    In the 70s luxury cars with no vinyl top were normally the base models and trust me they were basic !!!! Lacking in many amenities that made a luxury car a luxury car!!!!

    I have a 1949 series 60 special Fleetwood, that I use for my long distance drives. around 400 miles round trip. I use to have a 1976 Fleetwood. My favorite one was a 1955 Fleetwood with factory air conditioner. All three were Black. ( NO WHITEWALLS) I would like to find another1955 Fleetwood with air, that still works. ANY COLOR.

    A CADILLAC isn't a CADILLAC till it has its CADILLAC crest on the hood.

    Need to figure out why the driver's side of the front bumper is lower than the passenger side. It may have taken a little bump in the past. When you get it all slickered up she's gonna be looking fine as frog hair.

      Mine was like that as well as one door hung a bit angled. I think the weight of them sagged.

      They are damaged. I will either have to swap with hinges from one of my parts cars or We will send them off to get rebuilt.

    How do you find these cars ???

  • @clemsonbloke
    @clemsonbloke Рік тому

    That car was ordered without that vinyl top and for good reason, back then the always would rust out under the vinyl. Water would get in them and rust out the tops and around the pillars. Why would you want to put something on that will cause that? I'd say leave the vinyl top off!

    • @southerncadman7066
      @southerncadman7066  Рік тому

      It did have one. I thought what you said might have been the case at first, but his son told me he had it removed and had the roof painted when it started to blister.

    If you get the LIMO back window metal insert on the inside you have to change the head liner because from the inside of the rear window it will look like crap

    • @southerncadman7066
      @southerncadman7066  Рік тому +1

      I will have to study the situation. It is a d’Elegance so the rear window treatment would have been tucked with no trim, I think. I will compare to my other ‘76 d’Elegance to see what they look like.

    Car dealers!! Seems they are all they same. Money, money, etc. They have the greatest, and best. One owner never driven but to church on Sunday. God help us all.

    To fix those door Striker pins for the doors rattle when you close them, you get some Vise Grip Pliers and unscrew the pin, take the washers off and get a piece of PEX pipe that new plastic plumbing and you slice off sections to replace the nylon Striker pin that is dried up and cracked and falling off it's an inexpensive way to fix the door closing problem. I've had four of these cars I have three d Elegance, that are project Vehicles cuz they came from northern states with salt damage I would go with bed liner for the vinyl top. I like the mirror window tint on mine, Blends in with the Chrome nicely the interior door bulbs and the ones under the dash I would find some Led once because those cars were notorious for a fuse blowing in the dash lights underneath the dash would stay on and you come out to a dead battery the next day.
