Uses deaths to save time.
The load times are variable, especially if you beat the game first or maybe if you use WHDLoad, so I thought it was fair to discount every frame the gray blocks are on screen for the timing.
A500.

one of the best amiga games, hell, best 16bit shooters of all time. This brings back some amazing memories
The music in this game was ahead of its time.
The best computer game music of all.
yeah back in the day with an action replay mk3 cartridge I got all the music off and would listen to it outside the game :) Space ship level was the best!
There's also a full orchestra version of the whole OST, too. This soundtrack is in the pantheon of game music.
@@Reebus_ still do today. Not just as nostalgic background. The album version is perfect get and stay wake up music. Given a certain minimum volume.
I remember the music from this game, I thought it was great back then and I realise now like 30+ years later that it still is!
The speed run of this video doesn’t allow you to enjoy all the music though! 😊
Is it possible to buy/listen to it somewhere? Would be fantastic to hear it remastered with modern sounds too!
Chris Hülsbeck you did amazing work here!
This game needs to be at a GDQ event. Amiga Turrican needs love from the speedrun community !
Meraviglioso... unico
why is the soundtracks so damn good!!!
Excellent! Very clever to refill sideshots with deaths! Skipping wind was mentioned, saw it the first time. Found the superskill skip once by accident back then.
Something else I wanted to bring up: this run was done without autofire. All the other Turrican 1 and 2 runs I've seen use 3rd party autofire and it really cheapens the experience for the viewer IMO. I mean yeah, they temporarily disable it to use the Surround Beam, but man is it annoying. Thank you, and I hope you do a T1 run someday.
Nicely done, the skips were totally new to me in spite of playing this game to death back wheni had an Amiga 500 :-)
Love the bonkers backstory and one of the best soundtracks ever. Thanks for letting it play out. And it feels somehow more complete (and even more flashbacky) with with all the powerup sounds.
Oh yes, amazing run.
Nice gltch on World 2-1 :D
Awesome game, awesome soundtrack, and way to play! Threw down a sub and like for this.
Very very nice time! I don't think I can beat it, but I'm gonna try...
And I congratulate you for not using auto-fire. That's the way it should be played!
Awesome played, perfect boss strats. Also the last flight level, done beautifully. A few minor mishaps, but anyone doing non-segmented runs will be hard pressed to beat this. I'd say, if no more glitches will be discovered, this can't be beaten by more than 15-30 seconds. One final thing, Im not quite sure, but if my memory is correct, the eye boss in the flight level may be done faster with the ball attack.
I've beaten the time by 16 seconds and I'm working on a better time. Stay tuned! I discovered some small improvements to Jorf's run, including a faster level 1 and 7 boss saving more than 2 seconds each.
This is very impressive. Good fun to watch to, amazing tricks used to bypass large sections of the level! I especially liked the power line sync on the last shoot-em-up boss fight, nice stuff :)
Came across this video just as someone on an Amiga forum was complaining that T1/T2's time limits were too strict, so that's kinda funny ;)
Skills!!! You should have way more views for this kind of wizardry!
I played this game between 1993-1996, then my Amiga was broken in November 1996. It was a Sunday, I never forget this sad day 😥
My Turrican II original disk capped out and my friends and I held a funeral in my back yard, with a proper burial.
We were able to copy it to keep playing though.
@@KailashNathan did you have the games ending music in your funeral?
If only I had my boombox or Amiga+speakers close by. It was a vigil on a Silent Hill.
@@KailashNathan hmm I see
abolute classic
Wow, you finished T2 so quickly! Congrats.
You deserve a gold medal.
Powerrrrr up
Very nice to see a new speedrun of this game! Probably the biggest time save here compared to the very old run, is running against the wind at the beginning. I wonder if there are more than one wall glitch in this game, waiting to be discovered. Also very agile play and idea with self destruct stocking of power lines. Cool sync at 12:38. Biggest slip I noticed is at the last level, before the end boss, but not a huge time loss. It is probably the most difficult section in the game to execute perfectly. Btw. I'm assuming this was recorded with WinUAE. How are the rules with submitting, considering emulator settings and disk images?
Hi, thanks for the comment.
Yes WinUAE. Since there are so few amiga speedruns you kind of just have to make up your own rules. I just tried to be as basic and accurate as possible. I used the ipf image since the one on the red factor website is bugged.
Thanks for the reply. Nice to see some activity towards new Amiga speedruns, even if the community is small. I might try doing some runs myself later for Amiga and MS-DOS games. Still have T2 original disk and functional A500, but my joysticks are crap. Your time is tough for me to beat though. Would be fun to get some kind of decent speedrun for T1 & T3 and many other games as well :)
@@einokeino303 another 3 years later, another speedrun! I beat the WR and improved the time further!
all while dropping the bombs in rhythm with the music :-D
In my opinion Turrican 2 is the single best jump and run of all times (well, there is a worthy pc remake named Hurrican, but I respect the level of art developing that game on c64 and amiga), and you totally own it. Was there any flick of the joystick that was improvised in these 20 minutes of awesome?
Hey thanks, I like to route out every movement but some of the later levels didn't go exactly to plan.
Nice to see some love for T2. Have you tried GunLord on the Dreamcast? I highly recommend it as a Turrican style game.
Will keep these in mind, thx. Albeit in this phase of my life (kid, wife, job) I find little time for serious gaming. Hence at times I look up some classics to watch on UA-cam. What sounds ultra-lame can actually be good fun if the player putting up the vid knows his stuff.
Amazing. Really fast
music maestro !
Have you used the Albatros joystick?
It's interesting to me that, both Turrican 2 and Super Metroid have similar playstyles. Although, Super Metroid has the better gameplay. Both have legendary soundtracks. But I have to give the edge to Turrican 2. Chris Huelsbeck was a master composer.
Was this somehow done on a real Amiga? To my knowledge, no emulator has been able to play the diamond collect sound effect properly in Turrican 2, which is also the power up collect sound in Turrican 1.
nope, WinUAE
nailed it! How do the deaths save time?
It refills my power lines so I can take down the bosses faster
its on an emulation isnt it? on the amiga you have to press space to become the ball, now one can switch so fast from joystick to space and back. or did you have a second guy with you who pressed space for you?
this is emulation but you could do it with a 2 button joystick too.
Did you consider submitting a run on SDA?
unfortunately SDA doesnt accept emulator runs.
@@JorfDB Ah, that's right (except DOSBox). Hope an official Amiga emulator one day exists.
Runs are submitted on speedrun com. SDA is not as common anymore, furthermore they reject emulator runs
What is being said in the sound effects at 3:43 and 13:34 ?
Seems to be a mixture of different words because of picking up various items in a short time.
PowerUp
I'm not familiar with speed running can someone please explain why he kills himself at the beginning of the spaceship levels?
It doesn't cost any time and gives you a fresh 3 power lines to use on the bosses.
@@JorfDB thanks man , makes sense now you've explained.
Wait.. isn't that universal soldier from SNES?
My bad, easy typo to make
I looked at the universal soldier for snes / sega genesis and ...... WTF ?
yep some freaks in the us got the rights for the genesis changed some sprites and renamed it to universal soldier...because turrican was unknown in the us...
I don't get this thing about the speedruns. I used to play this game a lot, and I always spent time exploring and collecting the gems and such.
Go back to metroid an konami gradius..
