Strictly speaking: yes. However, while there are standard positions on the field, the way in which they are displayed differs depending on the specific formation or strategic purpose a player in that position has.

This is a classic 4-4-2 formation. 4 in the defense. 4 in the midfield. 2 forwards.
While it is currently out of fashion due to several tactical developments over the last 20 to 30 years, it gives you an idea of the full range of "basic" positions you'll see on a given pitch (field) during a game.
Of course Football has positions. (it's to not soccer, call it what you want, but I will call it its name) There are the goalkeepers, the defenders, the midfielders and the attackers. There are more subgroups (Attacking midfielder etc), but those are the basics. Yes the goalkeepers have different colored clothes, It's so the ref can pick them out easily (Goalies have different rules).

It is only Futbol if you are speaking spanish... if you are speaking english, it is football... Most of the world calls it football or the direct translation of it in their language. (In estonian it is jalgpall, which directly translates to football). If you use soccer use soccer, but it will make a lot of football fans mad, but saying futbol will make us angry.

If you watch closely he'll position defenders to run into each other, draw 3 or even 4 defenders away from his teammates to clear up a route, it's insane just how good he is!

You can’t use your hands, every goalkeeper has a different colour than the rest of the team, A Soccer field is much bigger than a football field and they run constantly, a game of soccer lasts 90 minutes with two 45 minute halfs and a 15 minute break. Unlike American football there is no stopping during the game for tv ads, there are 3 refs in the game with one being out on the field with the teams. I hope this has helped in some way

1. 100 yards (90m) and 130 yards (120m) - football pitches are around that meters
2. football matches last 90 mins but there can be extra time if their are like stoppage time such as injury or change of players or something but they have a break at 45mins which also can have extra time and then they come back to play the next 45 mins
3. Football/soccer is MASSIVE around the world its recognised in the poorest countries to the richest countries its a world wide sports thats in the olympics even like we had team GB you had team USA.
4. big euro players from the uk actually move to US football like David Beckham, Rooney, Ibramovic, Cole - many players
5. we have around 4/5 referees the main one is on the pitch who runs with the players and calls out fouls or whatever then the others are on the side line which do the offside rule which is hard to explain and then another who swaps out players
6. there is 11 players but we can have 3 subs who change either because they get weak from running for a full 90 mins or injury or new strategy is needed. so these more players on the bench
7. you can stop the ball from standing and tackling or slide tackle cleanly
8. the ref can give yellow cards to minor offences like unclean tackles or red for serious offences like major injuries fights
9. they also have coaches and a team that help them with strategy
10. their are many trophies to be won and many leagues like Messi plays in la liga which is a Spanish league while French like PSG play for LIGUE 1
11. in football or soccer we have to best players in this decade that is Messi and Ronaldo and people try to compare who is the greatest footballer and I would say Messi but Ronaldo is good I can't deny. its basically like basketball like you guys had Lebron v Kobe well thats how it is in football

To stop him, you must take the ball from him rightfully, that is, without bringing him down, kicking or hurting him, cos if you kick or bring him down, the referee would show you a yellow card as a warning or a red card meaning you are sent off the game. This depends on the nature of your challenge on him, that is, how dangerous your challenge was....
Correction - You can bring the man down, but you must take the ball first.

As someone who played soccer as an Amateur for a while it's just incomprehensible what level of skill Messi has acquired. There are players who have trained to get to a certain skill level. Like Christiano Ronaldo. Classic case of extreme effort in training to get to a level. But Messi also has a GIFT that can't be trained and that combination is why he is the best ever.

There is one official who runs out on the field with the players, and he usually wears black. Other officials are on the sidelines (also in black). The only way to get the ball away from a dribbler is to kick it away -- this is opposite from basketball, where you can't kick the ball but you can knock it away with your hands. The exception is the goalkeeper, who can catch the ball in his hands or kick it or punch it away with his fist. I hope this young lady becomes a soccer fan. Just don't expect the other players to dribble through defenders like Messi does.

It’s hard to know what you’re truly watching without context... she needs to know that what he does isn’t normal... football isn’t like Basketball where a team scores close to a 100 points a game... scoring a goal in football is one of the hardest things in sport... where games often end, after 90 minutes, with both teams failing to achieve even one each! And yet you see what Messi can do... he’s simply a freak of nature who brings tears to my eyes watching the beauty of his goals... no one else comes close, let alone comparable.
