I met a gentleman once who said he would buy vintage cars, and rather than fixing them up, he would "part them out." That is, he would break down the cars and sell the parts to others who were restoring vintage cars. He focused on Ford Mustangs and said that he made more doing this than restoring the cars.
This is not uncommon, and it goes beyond automobiles. I have several powersport toys--Jet skis, snowmobiles, and motorcycles that are worth WAY more in parts than I could ever sell them for whole. 2:25. Yeah.... I've tried that car flipping thing. It doesn't work out so well. The reason is that there are too many people out there who think they can do it, so they push up the price of the vehicles at the auctions. And speaking of which, why are they at the auction? They are there because someone else already looked at it and didn't want it. Otherwise, repair shops would double as a used car dealer, but they typically do not. There's way more money in fixing them than there is buying them, fixing them, and re-selling them. Buying one to sell later is only what you do when you have a smoking deal just happen to fall on your lap and/or your shop's business just happens to be slow.

So you go to the yard sale, see the products, then research them real quick while you are there, and if it’s a good product to resell you buy at the spot?
You know what's also real and beneficial...ACTIVE income. In far less time and effort than it takes to set up one of these side hustles, I could just do overtime at work when its available. No need to research, or invest in equipment, or drive my car all over town.
@@scarpfish I'm a software developer and make a great active income, but there are investments that bring true passive income without lifting a finger. But I'll let people do what they want 😌
If it doesn’t make money without any effort on your part, it’s not passive income. A side hustle is not passive. Only investing money into companies/ventures for a future return on that investment are passive. It’s important to understand this because the tax treatments for passive income and losses are different and can’t always be blended with your active income.
Flipping cars. Been there, done that. I never ever buy a car, leave the title open (ie don't put it your name) and resell it. What happens if your buyer leaves the car in your name, and has a nasty accident? You may be on the hook. Many states limit non licensed used used car dealers to 5 sales a year. Do you plan to tell your insurance company about your side hustle? The vast, vast majority of buyers are absolutely unable to judge the condition of a used car. I was a former mechanic and body man. One bad transmission, months of profits are gone. If an unhappy buyer sues, they may not collect anything, but you get to pay your lawyer.
Passive income: We have all click on a subject in a list of websites that kept taking you to more websites with the same subject name. Each time you click on the subject the person who setup the pages keeps making money.
I used to buy into the passive income stuff but it’s a crock of crap. Making money requires time and energy. Vending machines need to be filled and change collected. Couches need to be moved. Stocks even require research. Rental income still requires communication with your rental management company or your tenant if you actively manage your property

People throw around the term "passive income" too loosely. In my opinion, there's no such thing as "truly passive income". It's almost like a crop. You have to take the time to "plant seeds" and get the thing started. And then you just have to "water it" to keep it going. But not PASSIVE. Also, selling random planners and stuff online is half and half. Not just anyone can do that. It's a bit better suited for influencers, or business owners who have a following where they can point you to the product IMO.
@@abarbar06 it is not. Coming from someone who collects rent. Also unless you mean collect as in literal sense, one has to work their a$# off to get money for that property and even sometimes still keep paying mortgage. I know you are gonna argue that if the house is managed by someone else then it is passive. It is still NOT. Luckily people who can afford to invest in rental properties are not the types that are looking for easy ways to make money on tiktok. They know it is all come at the cost of sweat and blood. Again unless you are from royalty.
Flipping cars is definitely not as easy as it sounds. At the very least you need a garage with a car lift and plenty of specialty tools to make the work quick and do-able. Not to mention attending auctions all the time, owning a truck and trailer to tow vehicles that aren’t quite roadworthy, etc. This is all assuming you *really* know what you’re doing mechanically in the first place. There’s definitely other easier ways to make money on the side.
A lot of these side hustles are legitimate it's just that they're not passive income. In fact I don't think I've ever seen income that was truly passive. Everyone I've seen that says "Oh yeah I make passive income." puts at least some amount of time into their business.
I'm pretty sure that investing is passive income. But it seems that no one knows what passive income really means, host and commenters included. Passive income is something that you can set up and then it continues to generate income without having to go back to it. It doesn't mean that you never did any work. It's that you don't have to continue doing work to generate income.
And when you sell over 60 products or 600 Dollar per month you will get a 1911 Form created and the IRS knows everything. So you will have to pay taxes on the profit you made. You can´t deny it, cause it is all in your IRS File. Now you make your tax and dismiss this craigslist, pennys and dollars there in total you will pay a fee for dismissing it on your IRS Form. its "illegal" to flip cars in colorado. you get huge irs fines if you sell more then 3 cars a year. i went to an auto auction and i said " im going to buy this car to sell it" and the office person said "im going to pretend i didnt hear that" because they'd have to report it
The vending machine isn't a bad idea if you can get them close to each other.
It’s a waste of time
@@DavidRamseyIII and not passive
Getting permission to put your vending machine on a property is tricky.
@john Smith Yep income stuff others control is really the only passive income I can think of too.
So you go to the yard sale, see the products, then research them real quick while you are there, and if it’s a good product to resell you buy at the spot?
My nephew flips cars. He’s a mechanic. It’s lucrative.
you guys have old school thinking, passive income is very real and beneficial
You know what's also real and beneficial...ACTIVE income. In far less time and effort than it takes to set up one of these side hustles, I could just do overtime at work when its available. No need to research, or invest in equipment, or drive my car all over town.
@@scarpfish I'm a software developer and make a great active income, but there are investments that bring true passive income without lifting a finger. But I'll let people do what they want 😌
The vending machine one and planner one was pretty good ideas 💡for side incomes.
At the fuel price you will not make so much money travelling with your 🛋 loll
Ken - you need a dealers license in all 50 states to “flip” cars
"flipping cars" is hilarious
You don't need to put others down to promote yourselves. DR has built the reputation over many years, don't lose it by putting others down.
Reasonable disagreement, which is what happened here, is not putting anybody down.
If it doesn’t make money without any effort on your part, it’s not passive income. A side hustle is not passive. Only investing money into companies/ventures for a future return on that investment are passive. It’s important to understand this because the tax treatments for passive income and losses are different and can’t always be blended with your active income.
Imo all of the guys opinions were valid side hustles, just not passive income
What ever happened to Small Business Opportunities magazine?
They always had all kind of ideas.
No one said you do nothing to have passive income. Just stick to your job if extra work stresses you out
Two things about this, First is if it's that easy everyone would be doing it, and second he is only talking about gross income not net.
Good video and analysis.
the only side hustles that I believe in and worth the effort are lyft, uber, and doordash.
Lol at $10-20 to mow a yard, nobody is to working for that rate. Going rate just to get someone to show up is $40 a yard and I live in an inexpensive Midwestern city!
I flip beanie babies. I go to someone's house and take their disgusting beanies. I pay anywhere from 25c to a dollar. I then sell them for anywhere from 75c to $3. It's the American dream.
Car flipping margins are really slim. It’s not a bad idea but you have to be really knowledgeable about the market. A lot of people are doing it.
These guys are really funny. Great video ty
You can store a push mower. They’re tiny. You don’t need a huge gas one
I cash n bought a Honda cash out. Had I emergency fund n put transmission in a month later
You are not going to find many side hustles such as mowing lawns, delivering groceries, pet sitting or dog walking in these times of high inflation I’ll tell you that right now
Even if it works it’s not passive income. You actually have to do something and take risk.
Couch flipping is actually a thing.....but it is FAR from being "passive".
I dont know why someone would pay hundreds for really old used couch.
George is dead wrong for claiming that there is no such thing as passive income.
Mobile oil change I know a guy doing they he charged 60$ service call plus parts at cost usually costs 85-100$ to get ur oil changed and you don’t have to go to a oil change place and you think a expert is doing it lol
And he does it after hours when shops are closed he stays busy
That's a brilliant idea!
i think you would be better off just building new furniture from reclaimed wood as opposed to steam cleaning large, stinky, potentially bedbug infested couches. if you make new furniture from reclaimed wood, it's made in the usa and the markup could potentially be a lot more.
I have a sweet side gig as a teacher that I found. I work 16 hours a week at a liquor store and bring in an extra 800 a month. So nice
Flipping is not passive income, it's active!
Super active. Wouldnt even do it
The couch flipping idea was originally from Ryan Pineda the real estate agent who shared it on UA-cam. If you want original reacts look him up
The digital planner is something I’ve been thinking of for months now.
Agree on flipping cars. Wish I had the talent of the resource to partner with reliable talent.
Where is this list they talk about
Believe it or not there is need for TV antennas installers, satellite installers and mounting TVs
ironic these guys look down on passive income however that's exactly what investing is for the Ramsey plan
The grocery shopper side hustle is not worth it. I looked into it and what they pay didn't cover my gas.
Collecting rent is definitely passive income
Why are people obsessed with passive income? Where in the world in history have you heard of anyone getting money for not working, except royals?
@@abarbar06 it is not. Coming from someone who collects rent. Also unless you mean collect as in literal sense, one has to work their a$# off to get money for that property and even sometimes still keep paying mortgage. I know you are gonna argue that if the house is managed by someone else then it is passive. It is still NOT. Luckily people who can afford to invest in rental properties are not the types that are looking for easy ways to make money on tiktok. They know it is all come at the cost of sweat and blood. Again unless you are from royalty.
@@last_samurai6690 yeah renters also tend to not mind paying either. I never minded rent but not everyone can live in 600 to 1,000$ each month.
@@last_samurai6690 yeah, and year by year, your land value increases (no thanks to you), so you can keep charging more for rent.
My side hustle is part-time at Home Depot.
$10 to cut your lawn. You must have a very small yard. I pay $45. My lot is about 1/4 acre.
Flipping ANYTHING is NOT passive income. It means WORK and risk. Not a bad idea just don't expect couches to move themselves
So inspiring!
There are probably a lot of people who try those things and don’t make any money.
Insta cart pays 40 cents a mile toward gas. At least where I am.
Are you reimbursed
I always get annoyed at the "do this for passive income," but they're never passive income
And when you sell over 60 products or 600 Dollar per month you will get a 1911 Form created and the IRS knows everything.
So you will have to pay taxes on the profit you made. You can´t deny it, cause it is all in your IRS File.
Now you make your tax and dismiss this craigslist, pennys and dollars there in total you will pay a fee for dismissing it on
your IRS Form. And at a specific point you will have to file for a permission for a business, the law depends on it.
