Once again fantastic video Dylan. I am more of a follow my intuition and make one offs kinda guy but you explained this in a very easy to understand and beautiful way.

It’s so refreshing to hear someone say they will use anything to get the sound, rather than sticking to the old stuff is always best camp. Cheers Dylan

Boy Dylan this was a very interesting show I watched this video three times great job. I know that most people don’t understand this but I sure enjoyed it. Keep up the great work. It sure shows the pride that you take in making pickups. Wish everybody took the time in what they do to produce quality products. God Bless Be Safe Enjoy Life.

Thanks, very informative! I just started winding pickups too, for myself! This really helps. 👍

I'm not sure this video tells you how to design a guitar pickup but it does give one an enormous confidence that Dylan's pickups could replicate pre-existing pickups, and I suppose if desired could be the same. To me, this is the real problem with purchasing pickups: fundamental uncertainty.

A guy talking about wire wrapped around magnets is my favorite "TV show." I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Hey Dylan ... that's super cool !!!! I'd love to learn more, I know you have a class coming up with TTG. I'd love to attend one of those.... just hav to be sure the the border is open first... ever use Alnico 4 or 8 for a P90 ??? just curious... Take care, give my best to Leslie.

Great video as always. Lots of good information. I tried doing a Google search on measuring inductance and Henry's and funny enough it led me to a video you did 4 months ago. I guess you have become Google's expert on guitar pickups. I left a comment on that video that there was an article 20 years ago in a guitar magazine about adding a base plate to your Bridge single-coil pickup. I bought a couple of baseplates and attached one to a pickup but now I can't remember which guitar it's in so I'm going to have to buy an LCR meter to test the guitars and find out where it is.

The guitarist who inspired me to start playing in the first place began building his own guitars a few years ago. I have no clue how, but he made a set of P-90’s voiced like a stray middle and neck pickup, I’d love to know his secrets lol. I was pleasantly surprised at how accurate it was when I saw them perform live a few months ago. He has a video on UA-cam talking about his guitars but no information on the specifics of how he voiced the pickup.

I have been looking on info of how to measure a pickup's EQ profile. A few manufacturers give this info in their product specs, while many others don't. It seems like useful info to have.

awesome video... for someone who's only made a few, just winding them well and consistent is incredibly hard! One question I have, is when using flatwork bobbins, how do you stop it from buckling when winding? I recently wound one and the top flatwork lifts up at either end of the top of the pole pieces, no idea why!

I have been searching the internet for information on a "noiseless" pickup design, I have been imagining. I'm sure someone has had the same or similar idea. I would very much like your input.
Would it be possible to create a "noiseless" pickup, using a "split' single coil design. Maybe, an "end to end" humbucker, would be a better description. (As opposed to "stacked" humbucker design) What I'm trying to describe is; one coil under the E, A, D strings , and another coil under the G, D, e strings. Out of phase with each other for noise canceling. On a Stratocaster, the center pickup would probably have to be "flipped" (opposite) from the bridge & neck pickups. The only the design I have found, remotely similar, are pickups that have split bobbins. & have different grades of alnico magnets under the wound & unwound strings. I'm sure there are major flaws in my idea. What are they?

Love your videos man. I learned alot from you when I first started my brand. I was suppose to be at Summer NAMM in 2021 but I unfortunately had to back out, but a few of my small builder friends and youtube friends were there. I would have loved to meet you and pick your brain and talk shop. Cheers

Thanks for a great video. Lots of variables, lots of measuring devices (some of which I need to buy). And the units: Henrys, Ohms, Farads.....and then Inches. How to ruin your calculations. 😁

If you were designing a pickup for a 7 string guitar in tuned in C, what variables would you design for?

I just had some 42 awg enamelled wire delivered, and OMG, how do you work with this wire? If I even look at it funny it breaks because it is so thin.

Cool vid Dylan 🙏 Ad long as it sounds good should be the bottom line 100% of the time. Way to much smoke & mirrors mumbo jumbo in marketing pickups and electronic widgets

I might not need to watch this. I've already started building pedals for myself. It'll be pickups next 🤣
Heyyyyy. Wait a minute. 🤔Hmmmmmmm 😁 I still need to replace the magnet in the cheap hm I got from whoever it was on ebay. Suppose to be similar to a Alnico V '59 PAF-style hb but cheap lol. Going to hopefully put this Alnico 2 mag in place of the 5.
