    Guys, same issue. How can you trust this unit? I've noticed though that the issue is when I set the output ProRes Raw 4K60fps. If it's set on 4K24fps, the kangaroo doesn't show up. I have tried ProRes only, yet. This is a data speed issue for sure not related to the cable but to the unit to SSD. BUT, all this money for what, compromising???? Not happy at all! I need a reliable system, not a workaround. Any improvements on your side guys?
    Update. The issue was due to the WD blue ssd drives which couldn’t handle the data transfer. Swapped with Crucial and…issue sorted out!

    My summary from the comments are: use a fast drive, preferably off the recommended list, use a good quality HDMI 2.1 cable, 4k60, don't do any file management on a computer, format the drive in the Ninja. I'll be giving this a go, as I have also started to get this problem

    Ran into the same issue with my Ninja V, I was able to resolve it by buying a faster SSD. I noticed that the problem happened when I deleted the files on my computer. Looks like deleting SSD files on the computer does something to the drive that the Átomos does not like. I now just format using the Ninja V. It hasńt been long since I got the new SSD, Íll let you know if I run into the same issue again

    Hi i just had an issue similar to yours... Now I did a factory reset on my monitor and formated my 3 ssd's on my windows computer to their defaulft settings and everything seems to work fine.
    So Factory reset monitor, format all your ssd's on your computer to default settings (if with windows), and that's what worked with me.

    Hi guys. I have the similar issue. Here are some more info. So I use Atomos Ninja V with 2 SSDs from Angelbird AtomX. One 500GB and another one 1TB. 500gb came along with the recorder and 1TB I have purchased recently just before a7s iii arrived as I understand that now I will need more space to record videos. I use Full HDMI to FULL HDMI cable from Atomos made by Atomos. Whenever I try to record on my 500gb SSD it does Frame Skipping, not immediately, it could record for some time without any issues, for 45mins(much shorter if SSD is 50% full), and then it would suddenly stop and then continue to record every 4-7 seconds. Tested my 1tb several times and it seems to be ok. I suspect this is more likely related to the SSD. My 500GB SSD is more likely to have this issue when it half full. I have sent an email today to Angelbird to see what they can do about that. Will keep you updated. cheers.

    SOLVED 2023: Yesterday I had the same problem as you. While researching and thinking, I found that the disks I format on the computer and transfer to the Atomos are not properly read by the Atomos Ninja, but the new SSD disks that I put directly into the Atomos from the box do work. It's an issue with the disk format.

    The SATA connector did not hold the caddy tight. I epoxied it in and it appears to have solved the problem. I firsts compared the connection on other Atomos I have and they were a tight connection. This one had become a loose connection. On the inside of the case you can see plastic tabs designed to hold the SATA connector card which may have stretched a bit. I hope this helps

    Most of Atomos recording monitors are lousy, they are expensive, sensitive, overheat and require specific type of hardware to function properly. I hate when switching between record and play they have to reboot. These issues still persist in 2024.

    I think I "workarounded" it ... Pana GH5S - System Frequency 50 Hz - then C4K with 50 FPS - I just did a 20 min recording ... no Skippy :))) ... not sure if this was it .. but it seems to work now .. Skippy stays in the kennel ... :) - I have a feeling that this has to do with the latest FW Update for the Ninja ... (I have the Atomos 500GB SSD and the short coiled Atomos HDMI Cable ... )

    I've been dealing with this issue and I noticed that i can record from my GH5s at 23.976 to the Ninja no problem, it only gets Skippy when I'm doing 4K60 10bit so I think its a cable issue. • @BubbaBassAnglers
      @BubbaBassAnglers  4 роки тому +1

      Did you try a different HDMI cable and make sure it's secure? Don't leave it in the unit when not in use. If you do, make sure to reseat the cable at the start of a session. I also believe the AtomX 500 can only handle 422. Check the website for compatibility. If you are trying prores or something insane it won't be able to handle it.

    I have had similar issues with Skippy showing up. I am using Samsung 860Pro SSD with ATOMOS recommended cable 2.0a for my Lumix s1H camera shooting 4K DCI 422 10 bit at 400Mbps. I have recorded over 45 minutes continuously with no problem when I first tested the SSD. Then Skippy showed up a few weeks later on a shoot. I never disconnected the cable from the Ninja V or camera, and I use safety clamps and a cage.

    • @BubbaBassAnglers
      @BubbaBassAnglers  4 роки тому +1

      Reseat the cable every time you record. I think with it hanging there over time the connection goes bad. I also think it's the connection on the camera, not the Ninja. I've tested this successfully. Waited a week or so and boom, Skippy. Unplugged the cable and plugged it back in and was able to work.

    • @neilseiffer
      @neilseiffer 4 роки тому

      @@BubbaBassAnglers My cables are clamped with the recommended cages, so there is no movement for any disconnect and the ATOMOS cable is specially designed with heat shield (metal). I'm wondering if the date and time on the Ninja V has to perfectly match the cameras date/time settings. Also customizing the file names before recording. Moreover, I noticed the time on some Skippy recordings were set back to an earlier time than the listed recordings. Very unusual...and I trigger the recording from the Ninja V not the camera which is the recommended procedure from the Atomos rep.

    • @CyrionWillems
      @CyrionWillems 4 роки тому

      @@neilseiffer I have the same issue, also recording with an s1h. Also caged and clamped perfectly. I noticed that the files that are recorded right before a skippy problem have a crazy noise in the recorded sound channel, so there is something happening that triggers the connection to go on overdrive or something.

    • @neilseiffer
      @neilseiffer 4 роки тому

      @@CyrionWillems Yes, I also hear the buzzing sound on corrupt files with Skippy. I spoke with Atomos about Skippy's...they said a power voltage drop can effect the recording. This includes AC power from house current which I also tested to make sure the battery drainage was not the main problem. It is intermittent and sometimes I can record for a very long time and not see skippy show up. I'm still testing and notice the SONY battery that powers the Ninja V drops from 7.2V to a minimum of 6.8V before a warning battery error displays, however Skippy does not always show up during this issue.

    I have a "no input" or "skippy" problem too, which renders the unit totally useless - mine is not overheating - the issue is with the unit accepting a stable HDMI input from my camera - Atomos suggested it was because I was using an incompatible SSD - I changed it; problem still persists - their customer service is a joke - they couldn't give a damn - the idiots at Atomos also tell you that the Ninja V can be used as a monitor only, without an SSD even being attached, but when I use it as such, I still get the "no input" flashing on the screen. Pissed big time.

    • @seaninherts
      @seaninherts 3 роки тому

      @@BubbaBassAnglers Thank you for making this video. Quite crazy really. So are you saying that the solution is that every time you would like to record a file, you literally need to turn everything off, take the cable out of the camera and monitor, and put the cable back in the camera and monitor and it works without issue?
      I was interested in what you said about second recordings as I recorded for about 10 minutes on a half terabyte hard drive at 5.9 K prayers rule I started a new track, and recorded for six minutes. Skippy was being a pest.
      I’d be tempted to use it in non-raw mode for some recordings, particularly those that are more sit down and talk type interviews where lighting would be fairly consistent and dynamic range would not be in question, but I can’t seem to find any way of triggering the recording on the camera without it being in raw. Now you might think that’s easy enough, press it on the monitor, but for very boring logistical reasons, I do need the camera to trigger it thank you for making the video
