From 20:47 onward, you call the crowd in the ravine 'forager brood' but actually these centipede-people are the nasty brood from the base game. (but I guess you realized that later in editing since you titled the section "Kindred or Rot".) The true forager brood members are seen perusing the ground looking for treasures, such as rune arcs, and perhaps rare coins (like the 1839 half-sovereign). They forward their best finds to their vendor, Sir Moore, from whom you can buy them. If you talk to them nicely, they will give you lesser items and cookbooks. They are fond of pickles and have the best pickle recipes in the Realm of Shadows. You might even find one who is sick, and just needs a little help from you to recover. Those pest threads have insane range and accuracy. You are right, mage characters can have better success against them.
Glad it wasn't just me against them - and yes, no disparagement to the forager brood! The (two?) I've met so far have just given me a little prize peacefully.
