A roofing company I know of starts early in the morning and ends the day around noon or so. I really don’t think we need the government telling us how to cope with heat.
That's wonderful. The one my son used to work for was not as wise. Many places care nothing above their employees unfortunately. One goes down, plenty to replace them. That is their attitude. I have seen it myself.
Exactly. My husband worked in hot tar roofing for 30 years. The guys who do this kind of work know how to protect themselves from heat stroke and so do their employers.
More nanny state interference from the Feds. Here in South Carolina we're smart enough to know to hydrate, get out there early to get things done and take frequent breaks. Who would have thought that it's hot in the summer? lol
They banned breaks too dumb head. So where are they going to get water? And your boss control what time you show up, and let me tell you its not going to be in the morning
The department of labor can’t create “ rules” anymore. The law making process is congress’ job. They will get sued and overruled on this issue. The administrative state is no more…
we have been dealing with hot as hell summers for many a decade, we do not need the government of government lap dogs telling us how to do what comes as second nature to people.
The government sure does like to tell the people what to do and how to act lately. Now they are telling us how ho work! This is starting to sound like Russia in the 60's
Guess what it’s Texas! I’ve literally blue topped on the Dallas Rolex building around heavy equipment that recorded 122*, that was 2006, you get hot, wet, humid, dry, you’ll never know what conditions, I ALWAYS MADE SURE MY MEN HAD EVERYTHING I ALSO NEVER ASKED FOR SOMETHING I MYSELF WOULD NOT DO
I live in a very hot area, and people who work outside start work early when it is cooler, they wear water-soaked apparel etc-so when the weather is hot-it is hot-unless you can go into an air-conditioned area and cool off, more breaks will be worthless.
Exactly. And no employer prevents their employees from working at a reasonable pace, drinking water, splashing water on themselves, or taking a break to avoid heat stroke in the first place.
@@heatherhall7899 no employer what??? what are you holding? a crystal ball like the wicked witch of the west the government is looking out for us regular joes trying to keep those employers in check. Ever hear of OSHA?
I heard they were going to require like 10 min breaks every hour if it's over a certain temp or something like that. In my experience, employers want their employees to be well - can't work if you're dead. Providing water, gatorade, shade, a/c, breaks, etc. I've also witnessed employees taking advantage of "breaks from the heat" and not getting their work done. People need breaks and to cool down and hydrate, but balanced with productivity for whatever field they are in. More federal overreach is NOT the answer.
I want to know what the requirements are now, how he wants to change them and would the proposed changed actually save lives or just be more onerous and do nothing.
Except for in Florida where Republicans just recently passed a bill signed into law by Republican Governor DeSantis, taking away outdoor workers Right to mandatory water breaks in extensive heat.
This is why we have a President? Where is keeping workers cool in his list of constitutional responsibilities? Doesn't he have more important things to worry about?
Unfortunately, when our governor decide that water breaks are optional in the state, this forces the federal government to waste their time fixing the stupid decision.
I'm 67 yo and worked as an electrician in the Coachella Valley of Southern California from the mid 80s to 2008, believe it or not it was hot there then also. 110 - 115 were not uncommon and would at times get 120 and above. Back then companies provided water and let you take a break from the heat. We knew how to work in the heat or you moved out of the desert. Like someone else has already stated, it's just another law that helps lawyers make more money bye filling a frivolous lawsuit to attack small and large businesses. Unions already have these rules and most states do as well. Sleepy Joe needs to shut up and get to solving the economy problem and the boarder problem. Sorry for this old man's rant, 😂
Nothing to be sorry for old Feller 🙂 I'm in full agreement with you I started out hot asphalt Roofing in Palm Springs in 1983 that stuff alone is 525 ° working temperature and that was after 3 years of desert training at 29 Palms and I've been building America in the desert ever since ! You're absolutely right we know how to handle it people have been doing it for thousands of years
What's next, guidelines telling me how to stand properly to take a pee? Or how to wash my hands? We are still seeing the results of how his "guidelines" and "mandates" worked out. This guys is out of his mind!

"Trying to change the rules", why not "President Biden announced new federal safety standards", instead.
Because it's Fox News reporting. Their reason for existing is to spin and oppose progressive policies in the name of corporate profit.
so he can blame the right for not letting him do his damn job. he’s gotta go!

I get that people need a paycheck, but there's a level of idiocy involved in ignoring your body to avoid taking a break and drinking water.
People don't do that. People who work at labor jobs outside know how to do it to avoid heat stroke.
