    1. Largest castle In the WORLD, by land area.
    2. The Teutonic Knights NEVER ruled Poland.
    3. The Prince of Poland gave them land and then they started attacking Poland. Many years later, the Polish and Lithuanian knights defeated them at the Battle of Grunwald. And that was the end of them.
    4. You forgot to add that Poland was the largest and one of the strongest countries in Europe between the 16th and 18th centuries. Such a small detail.

For centuries we have had to fight for our culture, language and homeland. They have often misrepresented our history and that is why we always fight for the truth. We must learn from history so that it is not repeated !

Then Poles did their share of invasions until the late 17th Century and even conquered and occupied Moscow in 1610. They also defeated the Tartars, Swedes, Ottomans, Russians and Germans. As an Australian of part-Polish descent, this myth of Poland being invaded by everybody is nauseating. Learn some Polish history before believing German and Russian fake history.

@@perrybarinowski2350 Michener's novel written during the 1960's was pure fiction and hardly reflected true Polish history which most in the West knew very little about. He hardly mentioned the Polish and Lithuanian Commonwealth which emerged as the dominant power in Central and Eastern Europe for a few centuries.
The Danes were Poland's longtime allies if not the oldest in Europe. They were allies in fighting the pagan Polubian Slavs who occupied parts of North East Germany and what is now Poland's Pomerania. King Canute's mother was Polish and he, according to a Danish historian, sent some elite Viking bodyguards to help his uncle, King Boleslav the Brave when he went to conquer Kiew (now Kyiv) You are confusing the Danes with the Swedes who were invited to invade the Commonwealth in the mid-17th Century by traitorous and self-serving Protestant Polish and Lithuanian nobles dissatisfied with their pious Catholic king and his taxes, At the time the Commonwealth was weakened by a major Cossack rebellion in Ukraine and wars with the Ottomans and Tartars in what is today's southern Ukraine. Poles found themselves not only fighting Swedes but their own countrymen fighting within Swedish ranks. This Swedish Deluge lasted for a few years and one-third of the Polish population perished. However, the Poles regrouped and together with their tartar allies destroyed the Swedish army and sent them packing from Polish and Lithuanian Commonwealth territory.
As for Poland always being invaded, British historian, Professor Norman Davies, addressed this oft-repeated myth in the introduction of his two-volume history of Poland, 'God's Playground'. He wrote: "Poland was no more or less invaded than most countries on the continent of Europe".
Most people know squat about Polish history as they have read it through the biased prism of German and Russian revisionist historians during the period when Poland was partitioned for 123 years between Russia, Germany and Austria. That is now, thankfully, changing with more history books in the English language being published and UA-cam documentaries about the Polish and Lithuanian Commonwealth. There is a particular fascination with the famous Polish 'Winged Hussars' made popular by the Swedish Band Sabaton
Poland regained its independence in 1918 and in1920 defeated a large Soviet army at the gates of Warsaw. In 1939 Poland was invaded by German, Slovakia and Soviet forces and fought on for 5 weeks, which was one week less than the French Campaign. Hundreds of thousands of Poles, like my late Polish veteran father fought the Germans on all fronts (250,000 under British Command in the West and from 1943 the First and Second Polish Armies under Soviet Command in the East), and at home as a major resistance movement, until 1945. After WW2 Poland came under Soviet influence and became a communist puppet state until 1945 courtesy of the Yalta Conference. However, the history of Poland was not always tragic during its 1000-plus history as a Polish state. Indeed, since the mid-1700s during the civil wars of Polish succession involving Russian forces and subsequently, it was invaded and vandalised. During WW2 the Germans wanted to destroy the Polish nations and cause the deaths of 2.5 million Poles and 3 million Polish Jews. Hopefully, for Poland, the pain of the previous two and a half centuries is over.

Hi. Nice family trip:) I have one comment XD You seem like a smart guy but unfortunately you have simplified the history of Poland to an extreme - the classic stereotype about Poland - "everyone invaded it" 11:47.. Yes, for the last 200 years we were in pieces, But! Poland has 1000 years of history, 800 of them were good (we occupied many other countries in the past - Czech Republic, Ukraine, Belarus, Baltic countries, Moldova, we even occupied Moscow in 1612, which Napoleon and Hitler failed to do later). Now we are a peaceful nation - occupying other countries is not something to be proud of, but it also shows the strength that was in the past. Poland has a large nation on the scale of Europe (about 40 million people, e.g. Spain has a similar number). We are a large, proud European nation - we are not "poor Poland that you can easily invade". The last 200 years sucked because they tore us apart from the west and east at the same time! They had to come to an agreement to do it. (Hitler attacked on September 1, 1939, together with Russia, which attacked us on September 17 - their politicians had previously signed a cooperation pact. Besides, Russia "alone" never managed to defeat Poland - in 1920 we defeated the Russians in the Battle of Warsaw - one of the largest battles in Europe at that time). Yes, we have poor PR because of the history of the last 200 years, but the rest of the history is very interesting and good for us - and we are proud of it.

I will be looking for a good history book to read before my next trip. And yes Poland has a long and grand history filled with tragedy and triumph like many nations. America is 250 years old as compared to Polands 1000 years. And what survivors they are!! Thanks for watching and sharing facts. Can't wait for my next visit!

10:35 Teutonic Knights never ruled Poland. They ruled over a little part of current Poland granted to them by Polish Duke Konrad Mazowiecki in XIV century. If anything it was opposite as Kingdom of Poland destroyed Teutonic Order and forced Prussian/Teuton fiefdom in 1525. What are you talking about, man?
