Thanks. Did you see the video on that one? I have another triumph video coming out, a second triumph, where i clean it up and get it ready for a future track video.
Thank you Ari. To this day I still get so amazed to learn of the cars we all hold dear as our introduction into the hobby. You made a really good job of this one and the sexy retro colour scheme is still cool all these years on.
I bought 4 Raiders in the last few months just because you and the other channels shown in this video. You all made me a Kyosho man, thanks Glen, James, and Ari!👍🏽
Yes! Another Raider! My 1st RC when I was a child. I still have it. (Kit version). I ran the wheels off it and it is still great! Restored it a few years ago and still running it. Thanks for the video! 🤙
My first proper RC car was a Turbo Raider Pro. Teenager me painted the chassis with whatever whiteish paint my dad had on hand. I think it was some sort of epoxy appliance paint. It started flaking off the first time I crashed it. Three decades later, I pulled it out of storage and started a restoration. I was able to save the original body by stripping the old paint off with Krud Kutter Graffiti Remover. It was slow, but it worked beautifully and didn't seem to bother the Lexan or decals at all. So if you need to revisit it, that might work for you.
It is a super cool looking buggy and I am glad you were able to salvage the original body! It looks terrific in the display case along with the others!
Thanks Addam. I got tired of just seeing them wrapped in plastic bags in a storage closet in my basement. I too am very glad that i was able to salvage the body and make it look like its in good condition.
Remove the flaking paint as much as possible gently and blow it back in with some Tamiya black. It should blend in with a bit of luck. LOL I see you went for it :) I love the 80's neon decals and the RC10 display looks epic!
Thanks. So disappointed at first but glad I realized that I just needed to re-spray the inside to cover it up and seal it in. Only took me 24 hours to realize that lol....in all glad the way it turned out.
Funny timing, I just picked up a NIB Kyosho Raider recently and was considering doing a video on it, and now here you are with one to reveal. Excellent! -- FYI, the paint on my Raider is doing the exact same thing, wrinkling off in all the same spots. Good call using an airbrush to fill in the peeling areas. I was thinking of sanding it down, and repainting it, but the body feels pretty fragile and I don't know if it'll hold up to a good sanding.
Raiders are awesome and glad you got one. Although sorry to hear that yours is doing the same thing. What I did was just a way to salvage the body and seal it in. I just wanted to make it look presentable and hoped that with all the stickers it covered it up which which was a great success!
@@RCRetro your approach was spot on. I might do the same thing. My Raider sits up on the shelf, so you don't really notice the imperfections in the paint. But like yours, when you take a closer look at it, boom, there they are. 😳
Yes yes YES, more raider content. I allways wanted the arr as the black body with neon stripes looked awsome. Ive got one i need to restore but it wont be a mint one, she will get put out on the track. I really need to pull my finger out and get it done 👍
LOL.... nah in the basement... which is for me and the kids... well more like me and i allow the kids to play their video games down there... wife decorates the rest of the house.. basement and garage is mine lol..
Makes you think about the quality of paint they used. I mean this literally sat in a box for over 30 years. Glad you were able to salvage yours as well.
Nice video! You should put an Ultima Pro XL in top of the Optima Mid in your display case. Not sure if you have it but the one with the black body with red, yellow and green stickers would look great there.
@RCRetro I know you will if you want to. After seen that you found a brand new Days of Thunder PARMA kit in the box I think you can find anything… Keep up the good work!!
If you use your imagination, you can envision how a person could slightly modify the Raider ARR decals to apply them either a Tomahawk or Turbo Optima body. That would be a cool mash-up. It's too bad those green wheels are impossible to find...
The paint is more than passable enough for me, most of my collection have some blemishes here and there. Those decals are so late 80's it hurts! It's odd, Kyosho had a reputation (here anyway) for well engineered chassis with more use of metal than Tamiya. But it seems to me they had their fair share of plastic fantastic moments. I agree with your take on this buggy as entry level versus the Tamiya offerings. Cool vid btw. edit; cool display!
Thanks for the comment. Some of my cars that are shelf queens get run at least once and get a scratch here and there before being "retired" and put on the shelf. Gives it a little character....
Ever tried using something like Tamiya paint stripper to remove old paint or blemishes ? Might have been a good body to try it out on but sealing in the paint & having it covered by a layer or two for the shelf should be good enough.
That was also my first hobby grade RC back in the late 80s. It was fun until we added a modded motor that blew out the dog bones. My friends called it the ARR Already Rotten lol.
Worst rc kyosho made. I bought one of these new back in the day when it was in the hobby shop. I found one a few years ago in a thrift shop for $17. Still has bad as I remember.
That Triumph is absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks. Did you see the video on that one? I have another triumph video coming out, a second triumph, where i clean it up and get it ready for a future track video.
@@RCRetro yes did watch that one. I'd love to find one for my collection one day myself.
Thank you Ari. To this day I still get so amazed to learn of the cars we all hold dear as our introduction into the hobby. You made a really good job of this one and the sexy retro colour scheme is still cool all these years on.
Who doesn’t love a Raider and great shout out to VBRC 🙌🏻

Your welcome. Glad you're a Raider fan and can share in the same happiness as me.
This was the first rc I bought with my first job. Thanks for the memories you bring back bro.
Wow your first RC also.... that's great. Gotta love the Raider.
Glad the paint worked. That display will look awesome when done
Thanks and a future video focusing on the display will be out one day.... eventually lol

Nice job on the Raider . I always wanted Ted the red one lol. Your display is coming out great

@@RCRetro and the slight bit of defects you can see just adds to the story and makes it special!

Nice save man
Great display of cars, maybe the best rack i have seen
sound is veery low
Display level is expert. Some beautiful cars. If that's in the lounge room with the TV. Please express my deepest sympathy to the wife. Haha

I scored a untouched body just like you. Same thing happened. I just used a black paint marker to touch it up. Doesn't look bad at all.
Makes you think about the quality of paint they used. I mean this literally sat in a box for over 30 years. Glad you were able to salvage yours as well.
I always liked these cars and those cars and case are nice

Great looking car, love the neon! I like the acrylic stands have to let us know where they are from.
I'll give you a hint... which online shopping platform rules all ?

That's disappointing to say the least. Decals did a great job hiding everything. Car looks great!

Thats really what i wanted to do... just seal it in. I though about using Carsons Paint Killer but i didn't want to chance ruining the body.

Got one...
You check out the kyosho sand master 2.0
I quickly checked it out. Was the original one available in the USA? Never saw it on the kyosho America website.
@@RCRetro I think so. I hope it is available. It would be there cheapest kyoshos I think. Go to their channel that shows them running them.
