I just came to a sudden realization. What's been getting me isn't that they changed Adell's VA, but the guy who did it also played Silver from Sonic '06. Oh god... IT'S NO USE!!! TAKE THIS!!! CRIMSON BLAZE!!!
That's extreeemely unlikely. Disgaea is dubbed in LA, Sonic '06 was dubbed in New York. So unless Silver's VA (Pete Capella) moved to LA in the meantime... yeah. Must be someone else. Who sounds similarly annoying. (couldn't be Silver's new VA [Generations] either, 'cuz that's Quinton Flynn (Raiden, MGS2), and trust me, this voice AIN'T Quinton Flynn).
Y'know...when I got the DLC, I was kinda disappointed that his voice had changed (it wasn't bad, just unfamiliar). Now I wish they just copied lines from D2 instead of that weirdness they went with for Disgaea 5.
Japanese adell sounds better because he ain't puking in his attacks like the English adell and priere doesnt have a voice in disgaea 5 she makes noises like a cow with her english voice acting but with her Japanese voice acting SHE HAS A VOICE!!!
The weirdest part is that they had his original voice actor in Disgaea 4, so why the heck didn't they simply re-use the voices from that game? Why record new lines with some other actor, especially when he has no voice outside battles.

I know I’m uber late to this comment but, technically from 4 to d2 laharl got stronger. In 4 valvatorez canonically beats laharl in a postgame battle while in d2 laharl comes out on top. If anything he is stronger also including how he is the only disgaea protagonist to have canonically beaten baal
Ugh, Adell's new voice in D2 makes me want to cry. ...it's so horrible. I know I'm being mean, but WHY IS IT SO HARD TO REUSE OLD VOICE CLIPS. Especially if the DLC cutscenes aren't even voiced. How? Because I'm the Overlord! Ahhh HaHaHa!! Err... Well, actually it's like Dragonite said, the current DLC is available for the EU version of Disgaea D2 sooner than the NA version... It's ironic though because the Fuka and Desco DLC was actually available to download for the NA version before the release of the game itself, but it wasn't made available for the EU version until about a week after its release. I do have the NA version, but I haven't gone any further than I did in the JP version.
I gotta say, I Can see this being an easy 500+ hours of gameplay. lol. never played the other Disgaea Games, I only played HOD, DS and D2. I never got into the others as much. I just find Laharl to be Hilariously Awesome!! XD

But Laharal and company are able to travel to it even before D2. And also with the fact that they don't remember anybody makes me assume that this takes place before Disgaea 2. And what you said is also correct seeing how Adell remembers them, yet they don't of him, meaning he's the original one, yet they're from another universe then the original ones we saw in Disgaea 1/2.

Maybe they just couldn't get Shiloh Strong back for recording more voice clips for Adell. But *damn* this new voice is just horrid. Did NISA just get a rank amateur to do the voice? Normally I'm not this harsh about things like this, but holy damn, that voice does *not* suit Adell in the slightest. What were they thinking?
Adell's voice is bad, which kind of sucks considering he is my favorite disgaea main. Does it kind of bug anyone else though how this takes place before the events of disgaea 2? I mean Laharl shows real grown and maturity in this game and makes deeper connections with Etna and Flonne that shows how much he has grown since Disgaea 1 and yet Etna still leaves him over pudding. That is AFTER all the stuff they go through in this story, and he reacts more like you would expect the Laharl from Disgaea 1 to act compared from D2. I dunno, it just kind of seems like Laharl shows progress in becoming a good overlord in this game and then we get to disgaea 2 and its like he hasn't learned a damn thing.
A lot of the things can be justified though when you look at all the dialogue. Like you know now that Etna left to control her powers that she recently got so she wouldn't risk killing anybody. She and Laharl got into a fight and she takes all the Prinnies with her. Laharl, Flonne (and Sicily) are basically left at the castle without any food and that basically effects Laharl's personality and Flonne is probably telling him to apologize to her so she can come back. The problem is he can't find Etna anywhere in his Netherworld and when he finally hears news of Etna on TV in another Netherworld, he's very quick to chase after her really angry and acting really immature as a result of her leaving him. At the end of the game Etna goes back to him so he goes back to normal for the most part. I hope that makes sense. (And to drive it home, in Disgaea 3, Laharl, Etna and Flonne are trolling Mao in one ending while searching for Baal in another. In Disgaea 4, Asagi screws the universe up so if Laharl and Etna are OOC its because of her but Flonne kind of let her power as archangel get to her if she's using that money to make her anime dreams come true...)

The dub job for this game was just awful. Usually the Disgaea dub is pretty good, but GOD this one sucked. All of it.
