- Not too long ago, Me and my friend Mia went to Carlisle. After riding a alison gearbox optare solo, We went our seperate ways, With her heading to Lancaster to get a dennis dart SLF. I meanwhile, Stayed in Carlisle, And upon noticing a ex Liverpool X5 Express ADL enviro 300, Branding mostly in tact and all, I knew I had to take a ride! However, As you'll see, Things didn't go to plan.

JOURNEY INFO:
Vehicle: 59 Reg MAN 18.240LF ADL Enviro300 - PX59 AZF (24119)
Service: 61 - 61 - Harraby - Morton Park/ Morton West
bustimes.org/services/61-harr...
Total Journey time: Approx. 55 Minutes.
Extra info: Was new to Willowholme depot in 2009, And for most of it's life, has been based at various cumbria depots, Although, For a period from 2018 to 2020, This vehicle was used out of Gilmoss depot. The x5 express service initially used some Volvo B7R Plaxton Profiles, Only for stagecoach to find out that the service was massively unpopular compared to the rival Arriva Sapphire X1, Even with the comfy coaches. This service swapped to e300s in a attempt to make it viable.
The service was withdrawn during 2020 for obvious reasons, and all the e300s, still wearing the X5 decals, returned to Carlisle again, and has been there ever since.

Why isn’t anyone talking about the driver?? He was so nice apologising for some that he had no control over god bless his sole
So true
@@TomAlter1000 oh ok
I love how the wee dog is quite happily sitting in the guy's arms getting petted and it's head stroked.
Most dogs don't really like buses, because they are obviously not allowed up on the seats and they often tend to get a bit stressed and agitated.
But luckily this wee dog seems fine.
He was adorable. After I turned off the camera, I gave him a little head pat ❤️
These MANs seem mechanically unreliable, but when they are going they are beasts on the road. Next time you get to try one, try getting one on a fast section on a route as most with kickdown are amazing 👍
I’m glad you enjoyed! Honestly, they don’t *seem* unreliable, it’s just that stagecoach Cumbria is putting these beasts on routes that have a lot of stop starting, something these are not designed for.
IT IS MEN NOT MANS

The Stagecoach depot in Dumfries is generally made up of Enviro 200s, Optare Solos, Volvo Plaxton coaches and some Scanias.
The Scanias used to be used on the Edinburgh routes until earlier in the year but they struggled on the incline.
They should really have had Volvos doing those routes, but unfortunately the contract that the Scottish government has for that route stipulates that it must be a specific type of vehicle that can carry wheelchairs and prams etc.
sounds like it partially seized. Very dramatic! Enjoyed the ride (and the breakdown)
Thanks John :)
Lily's Enviro 300 broke down
Glad I'm not on that bus as I'd be sarcastic by singing "The wheels on the bus go round and round!!!" Hehe
lol
I thought perhaps the driver might have tried switching as many electrical items off as possible like the overhead lights in order to try and save power so that it could be used solely for trying to restart the engine, then if he had been successful turn them back on.
I see it pottering about every now and then around teesside
It's possible the engine may have overheated which is not surprising really with the enormous amount of time, trying to get through traffic jams in each street as well as passengers taking a century to scan their passes or pay the fare. If the point where it broke down was mid-route that means that was another hour or so to go?
Yeah, pretty likley. There wasn’t too much of the route to go, about 20 minutes, however, it had been stop starting all day on the same route, not a ideal task for ex intercity express buses 🤔
24119 is now at Stockton Depot :>
Just a pity that it was such an unpleasant day in terms of the weather, for something like this to happen.😬☹
Unfortunately Stagecoach these days aren't really in a position to replace as many of their buses as often as they would want to and so a lot are having to be repaired and wait that bit longer to be replaced and often it's just a case of getting rid of one vehicle and maybe getting one that's just 2 or 3 years newer from another depot somewhere else in the UK.
So, it shouldn't really come as any real surprise that these sights are becoming more common, unfortunately it's just a sign of the times.
Sounds more fuel related. It wants to run but wouldn’t. Possibly a blockage or air pressure leak.
I mean, I’m definitely not a expert when it comes to engineering, so, it’s certainly possible this is the case, it could also be due to this being a express engined bus (high speeds, stops thirther apart), with this being thrown on a stop start commuter route instead.
when the bus broke down
49:24 is where the bus break down happen
how did it break down?
A lot of other commenters seem to think the engine failed.
This bus is still alive was at Carlisle then moved over to Newcastle and is currently at Stockton but these MAN Enviro 300’s 24000’s aren’t the greatest we have 15 in Newcastle and had euro 6 engines fitted made them even worse.
I'm shocked this is still going!
I often see it pottering about
have you ever seen a broken down mmc
Can’t say I have no
I have a few times - I think 2 E400 MMC's in Oxford. I saw 1 on a recovery truck a while back!
typical liverpool
MANViros are some of the most unreliable buses i've ever had the displeasure of traveling on. I can't remember the last time I was on one without anything going wrong
There's a reason we ridded of them once the X5 went 🤣
They are unreliable think when GM had them they onthe road and off the road but good buses the M.A.Ns
@@kieranstravels yeah better runs out instead of stop start routes do like a M.A.N bus hoping to get back up to Carlisle in the new year
Gillmoss ones are best ones as they seem to have got the best out of them, most of the other batches aren’t as good
hmmm questionable about the gillmoss ones. stagecoach Yorkshires are a good example
@@robinsbusvideos ridden on some at Hull they have a few decent ones Euro 6 ones are horrible been all but a couple of the the PX08,PX59 & PO59 examples rest of those I can’t do as they’ve been withdrawn
oh yeah hull have a few decent ones aswell
