Actually it was the Russo-Japanese War just before World War One. It was the first time that an Eastern Power defeated a European Power, but you'd probably say that Russia shot itself in the foot and defeated itself.

I prefer Drachinifel's videos on the Second Pacific Squadron, if only because he has a good bit more detail about some of the additional incidents they commited, and a full brakedown of the battle of Tsushima.
and on the subject of Russian Naval embarasements, Laser Pig has a new video on the Sinking of the Moskva... and holy shit, this current war is just turning into a "worst of" highlight and rerun reel of everything that has ever been wrong with Russia(and now that I've said that, hopefully this trend will not include making nuclear reactors explode)
I also prefer Drachnifel’s video because he doesn’t make Rozhestvensky out to be “the smartest idiot in the Special Olympics” and somehow also to blame for the screw-ups of this shitshow. He didn’t ALLOW THE MEN TO TAKE ANIMALS ABOARD. They did it while he was sick (probably from the stress of being a retard wrangler…for RUSSIAN retards no less). And he couldn’t afford to waste ammo training because he wasn’t GIVEN enough ammo to train the troops on the way to the battle.

They at least used to have nukes. Nowadays I think the Orthodox Church is so heavily involved with their nuclear program because they're pulling a Mechanicus and are just praying that they still work.

5:36 ok so technically not as unrealistic a prospect as you might think.
Japan at the time was buying a lot of naval vessels from the British and sending over skeleton crews to sail them over to Japan. So, in theory, it was *possible*, however unlikely, that the Japanese would send a small fleet's worth of battle-ready sailors to England to puck up some freshly built boats... extremely unlikely but possible.
Drachinifel covered this. Look up "Voyage of the Damned."
My biggest criticism of this video is that it doesn't really get across how much of a nightmare this was for the Russian sailors. If you actually think about it from their POV, it's still hilarious, but it also becomes horrifying.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to likewise suggest Drachinifel's video about this incident. One highlight for me is the bit about how that one engineer wrote about sleeping with his head away from the door since he noticed rats would use that end of the bed as a highway.
Bluejay is a channel that takes more of a comedy spin on things history, wouldn’t fit the narrative of that very well if they added that don’t you think?

It's interesting to note that the Japanese suffered massive losses of their own during the land campaign, to the point that one general (I believe, I'm talking from memory) later asked to resign as he believed he had failed the Emperor in having such a costly victory. The difference was that the Russian command was incredibly indecisive and fragmented, which made it pretty much impossible for them to properly leverage the advantages they did have with things such as coordinated counter-attacks.

I didn't even realize I said WW2 until someone pointed it out to me and I just stared at the screen. I was just sitting there staring wondering how I said WW2 and not the Russo Japanese war. I do it with numbers too sometimes.
