+GamleErik100 there was only 155 people on the airplane. there was 3,000 people on that cruise ship. He did on the loud speaker tell everyone to get off the boat but the problem is he did not speak english. Im not sticking up for the captain but you know that there was no drill for if your boat is on its side.
Sully for President 2016!!!. I would vote for him without thinking twice. He would be so much better then candidates we have now, which are the worst candidates in the history of USA. I am actually pretty sure Sully would win if he ran now, because people are just tired of having to choose between two worst candidates ever Trumpster and Hitlery.
Well why don't you 'educate' us as to the 'point of event and movie' Babs? I'm sure it would be a hoot. Always amusing when I find myself in the company of a self declared 'Smartest Person in The Room'.
There were 2 men in that cockpit. Working as partners or a team is so highly vital in such a situation because it wasn't just their own lives to save, but passengers and attendants as well. I've yet to see the movie "Sully". I was fighting for my life in 2009. I didn't hear about this until the movie's trailer shown. But it is impressive and I'm thankful EVERYONE with the skills of those 2 pilots and our Creator's power survived that crash/landing. I'm so glad there are ppl on this earth that still take their jobs so seriously. But I guess everything and anything happens in NY! So happy everyone survived. Hallelujah!
@@julianmanjarres1998 So do you want to tell us that Sully is actually incompetent? So it wasn't his skill that brought the plane down safely? A good ol southern boy, guess i should have known !!! Best pilot to ever Live, fly an airplane, and most of all, care about his crew and passengers !! Way to go "Sully"
Jeff is getting attention also just less then Sully, because Sully was the one in full control of the aircraft, Jeff just kept trying to restart the engines, which unfortunately would not restart. I really do wonder what the outcome would of been if Jeff was in control of the aircraft, because Jeff was the pilot in control of the aircraft until the bird strike then Sully took over control after engines stopped putting out thrust and the aircraft became a 160,000 pound glider. But still Jeff helped Sully a lot by reading the speed and altitude to Sully. Just like Sully said, that he couldn't of done it without Jeff's help.
Well, that´s hardly because Skiles was a worse pilot, it´s about rank. Sully was the CAPTAIN, Skiles wasn´t. In an emergency the captain is always ultimately responsible. Skiles was 52 yo at the time and that means he was also a very experienced pilot, although not a captain yet. But to Sullys advantage, he was also a simulator instructor in precisely water landings, as Skiles wasn´t.
God Bless you Sully! Thank goodness for his military background and the brass he had to make this decision that saved those people. Shame on ntsb for questioning a man with his training and experience on saving those people. In all honesty they need more people of his training on board - no pun intended!
National hero? No. International. The dude saved a plane full of people. There is a reason I youtube this guy every now and then. This is one of the most inspirational stories I've ever seen.
I am a retired Amtrak engineer, and , not comparing that to an airline pilot, I am completely mesmerized at how Sully landed this plane and saved 155 souls! You are a hero of mine❤
This moment will live in my memory as vividly as 9/11 but for the exact opposite of reasons. On 9/11 we did have many people come together, but let's face reality. The thing that remains is the feeling of helplessness and desapir for those killed. When Sully landed that plane on NYC's Hudson river, we saw the overcoming of certain disaster and it happened just blocks from ground zero. It was a moment for everyone in that city and in this country to feel like we had done better. And though terrorism wasn't involved, it certainly made me feel like we had won one against everything that has brought this country down a few notches over the last few years. It was certainly a healing moment beyond the scope of the actual cause.
He's not a hero, he was doing his job. He was responsible for every life on board that aircraft and it's his job to keep as many people alive in an emergency. It's an astronomical responsibility to have on your shoulders which is why every airline pilot is exceptional. Rarely does anyone know how much knowledge it takes to become an airline pilot. Sully is a great example of how ALL pilots are more than JUST a hero. Both pilots should be given an award for their outstanding performance.
And indeed they were. Each of the crew members were awarded the Master's Medal of the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators, an honor reserved for the most extraordinary aviation accomplishments. The citation read, in part: "To have safely executed this emergency ditching and evacuation, with the loss of no lives, is a heroic and unique aviation achievement."
I enjoyed this story! I remember turning on the news and seeing this breaking! I was like HOLY SHIIIII that's now a boooooat! He landed that perfectly.
Yeah, i know we complain about the airlines all the time, but let's not forget that it's still the safest mode of transportation (including walking) known to man. And yes, the planes are getting better as well as the safety measures, but let's not forget the pilots who are able to do this day in and day out with professionalism and skill.
Saw the movie today. I never realized how much Sully had to go through after his landing. Loved the movie, very realistic, like a documentary. Loved Tom Hanks.... the man nailed it again.
Sully is clearly a great pilot, and a good calm, and controlled man. I think the river landing was miraculous. But it's not like Sully risked his own life to save his passengers. He saved his own life, and in doing so, he also saved theirs. My thinking is, a real hero is one who risks his own life to save others. Sully would probably say the same thing about the incident. I think we throw the "hero" label around too much.
If he didnt care about saving the people he wouldnt have tried so hard to land the plane perfectly leveled with the water so that it didnt sink instantly and everyone could escape in time before it sank. He would have carelessly landed the plane in the water so that he could escape and everyone in the plane would drown if he wasnt trying to be a hero.
You may say that the landing was a matter of skill. But then he went through the whole sinking plane, through almost freezing cold water being waist-deep in the rear, to check for passengers. Twice. This alone would make him a hero.
LOOK AT THE DATE OF THIS BROADCAST. *At the end, Sullenberger commented on how few safety measures the airline manufacturers actually implemented, simply "because of cost issues."* That was the entire reason over 300 innocent people died when two Boeing 737 Max 8's went down with all hands, only two years later. How horrifically correct he was... again.
Jedy_Mushroom Sully took the decision to land on the Hudson (not the co-pilot) and executed the landing (not the co-pilot). If the board of inquiry had found against him he would have been crucified, not the co-pilot. So it's only right that he should take the credit.
mikelheron20 They both are taking important decisions in-flight. It's not like he could've performed everything so well without the co-pilot. I'm not saying he shouldn't be considered a great man, but that the First officer isn't noticed enough compared to him.
Nick Usenko plus Sully tries to remind the media that this was a team effort and gives his crew and Jeff equal credit. It’s pretty much the media that gives him the spotlight.

no he wouldnt. The fact is if there was a perfect person to be president the superpac would brain washed their voters into lies about that person
How many people at CBS read this title without realizing HUDSON is spelled wrong?

this was def a miracle. so many things could have gone wrong and left everybody dead! Scully really kept his cool and saved all those people!
