I’m English, with Irish heritage on mams side. I grew up a catholic in the west end of Newcastle upon Tyne. My mam wanted to protect us from the Irish troubles. My infant school headteacher was a wee Belfast woman. In the 60s she educated me. As I grew up, I travelled to the North. Now I’m very clear where I stand. First time I went to Belfast , I was so much more comfortable where there wasn’t a union flag flying. Strangely , my husband , not a Catholic, felt the same. We went many years and always felt safe in the falls road area.

Today I listen to the radio Thailand broadcast played Only our river run free ,that I never knew before but very love it. Then I go to you tube and found lots of beautiful Irish songs . LOVE SO MUCH.
