  • The Mega Man X Legacy Collection is awesome. But as I show in this short Comparison Video, it's also a bit laggy. But not in a deal-breaking way for the vast majory of players, I guess.
    ~~TEST SETUP~~
    ✔ All tests have been performed on a BENQ RL 2455 HM gaming monitor with the same settings. (AMA: Off, Instant Mode: On)
    ✔ The videos have been recorded using the free iOS App "Is it snappy?" by Chad Austin ★ itunes.apple.c...
    ✔ Captured video framerate is 240fps, so every frame is 4,166ms
    ✔ Lag-Values are the average of approx. 5 samples per system
    ✔ All game versions are 60hz, except the one played on the Super NT (50hz PAL)

    GigaBoots has released a couple of far more sophisticated videos on input/outpult lag of the Mega Man X Legacy Collection series, enjoy them here:

      I find it horrible that not only is there not much of an improvement with the Zero and ZX collection, but there were no updates on this collection fixing the input lag.

      They still haven't and won't :P Better off getting the Carts and original hardware and playing them on a CRT for an authentic a near lag free experience. Console emulation sucks 95% of the time. I get it, it's super cheap, convenient and it's neat having access to all of the games in one shiny package, but why even bother if the 'feel' of the games are completely broken and compromised? Ruins the fun 10 fold.
      Fun fact. Mega Man 9 & 10 in the Classic Legacy collection aren't emulated. They're the actual Wii Eshop digital releases and dont have any additional lag. They play every bit as good as they're supposed to. Unfortunately, 1-6, along with 7 & 8 all play terribly! I still have both collections physically on Switch, just because. :P but i never play them haha

    Japanese version of games have Noticeably less input delay. Just toggle to Japanese version of games on game select before choosing.

    I was wondering why it felt off. Been playing XLC on my ps4, and you can feel the difference in timing, including jumps. Even worse, I actually experienced screen tearing + slowdown. Ugh this bites, even though I enjoy the X series. I will not give up, just have to adapt. Until this is patched hopefully

      original has heaps of slowdown on snes. ps2 versions fixed the slowdown, but increased input lag a bit.

    Feels perfectly fine for me in handheld mode. If there is any lag there then its miniscual at best. I cant say anything about the other console versions though.

    Update: just change the screen setting and filter to anything than your current one and it should work fine, you can revert to your favorite setting afterwards

    No offense to the video creator but this methodology of guessing when the input is read is not an accurate representation. The super nt has less iput lag than the snes mini. The test needed an alternate method to determine when the input occurred as you cannot guess when the circuit is completed by physical press of a button.

    • @humaldoZockt
      @humaldoZockt  6 років тому

      None taken :) The methodology is not 100% accurate but pretty common (even among developers) and good enough to measure if the responsiveness lies in the 50 - 90 or 90 to 130ms (or more) area. That's all I wanted to know :)

    I felt comfortable with the lag in Megaman Legacy Collection 1 + 2 on Switch. How do those games compare?

    • @humaldoZockt
      @humaldoZockt  6 років тому

      I haven't played them. But different people are differently sensitive to input lag. But If you're sensitive to it, then it totally ruins the game.

    For me, it works perfectly well.
    The char jumps at the exact moment as I press the button.
    Nevery failed any jump.
    So yeah... have fun with your witchhunt, cause calling this "a bit laggy" is just moronic on so many levels.

    • @oluas85
      @oluas85 6 років тому +1

      EpicFights if you wanna accept this issue, then it's your problem. Capcom need and will patch this because I know many people like me who wants a game to be fully functional and not to conform with a easy fix.

    • @epicfights1433
      @epicfights1433 6 років тому +3

      Saulo Campos of course the issue is unacceptable, but if u already have the game would rather wait for the patch or just do this simple fix once and it will work fine afterwards

    I really feel bad for the nitpicking people who are actually affected by this. I mean really? A slight bit over one tenths of a second? Come on now. This isn't noticeable whatsoever for anyone who isn't ultra anal about it. I hope these videos don't turn people away from buying this lovely collection.

    • @humaldoZockt
      @humaldoZockt  6 років тому

      Yeah, it's a pitty. I played the original Mega Man X a couple of days earlier on original hardware and I immediately noticed that somewhing was wrong when I started the Collection on my Switch today... Those fast platformers from back then really rely on fast reactions, and 120ms is pretty slow. For Adventure and RPG no problem, but for Mega Man.... **sigh**

  • @eaglechopper
    @eaglechopper 6 років тому

    lag input is there on PS4 on most all 8 games, they better fix or address this crap soon.

    • @humaldoZockt
      @humaldoZockt  6 років тому

      I'm afraid they won't adress it, because they would need to rework and optmize the emulation technology which would take a while, I guess. And ~120ms are still playable and one can get used to it after a while. But for purists, it sucks, yes.

    • @eaglechopper
      @eaglechopper 6 років тому +1

      they lost the speed runners community then kinda sad, + i died at penguin it's that bad , even with putting smaller screen and no background, it's near unplayable atm IMO.... sigh

    I have no input lag whatsoever. Whenever I press the jump button, it jump at the exact same time as I press the button. Unlike what you showed in the video, I don't even have time to take my thumb off the button. Even the SNES portion of your video at 70 ms seems slower than what I get on PS4 Pro.
    I've gone through X1 and X2 without any problem and now I am in X3 with no problem either. The only problem is the major framerate drop whenever there is too much stuff on screen. They should have fixed that.

    • @humaldoZockt
      @humaldoZockt  6 років тому +5

      You have to capture the process with a highspeed camera (I captured the video with 240fps, so every frame is 4,166ms) and slow it down to be able to notice it. 70ms and even 120ms are way too fast for the human eyes, but already make a big difference reaction-wise. For comparison: In the good old analogue CRT TV days, the input-output lag was in the 50-70ms range. If the lag gets higher than 100ms, the gameplay really starts to suffer and everthing higher than 160ms is considered as unplayable. At least for actiongames like Mega Man.

    • @marcofunke3607
      @marcofunke3607 6 років тому +1

      Haha, that's the same nonsense as 60fps videos.
      If you need a comparison video, to see, if something is 60fps or less, you won't have any problems.
      So yeah, if my char reacts in the exact same moment, as the button is pressed, than everything works fine.
      He never reacts too slow when I hit the jump button, even for more tricky jumps, and that's all that matters.
      The rest is just a witchhunt made by freaks for freaks.
      I mean... "70ms and even 120ms are way too fast for the human eyes, but already make a big difference reaction-wise."... yeah sure freako.
      Also, same here on the Switch.
      I can't get my finger from the button, and he jumps.
      And if I press the button carefully, while listening to the "Click", he jumps in the exact same moment as I hear the click.
      So basically, there is no difference, if the human eye needs highspeed cams for this.
