So today we take a look at another Indie Fighting game and this one is Knock Off: The Battle for Imagination. Take all your classic action figures from the 80s and 90s, and put them into a fighting game and we got Knock Off! Very unique premise and a very beautiful looking game(watch in 4k why not!?) its certainly quite unique as we cover in the video! They are also running a kickstarter to help out with the game if you wanna check that out, linked in the video description. Indie fighting games have been doing quite well lately and Knock Off looks fantastic so give the vid a watch and find out what its all about!
They're the Young Mutated Lizard Warriors named after famous composers Wolfgang, Bach and Ludwig. They fight the Palm Clan and their evil leader The Grinder! (Not joking, from their website)
Yea, the visuals and models look really good but i think the animation needs alot of work, which is the most important part of fighting game visuals. But still this is very impressive for an indie fighter
@@RoialBrawl I was thinking that some of the animation "jank" was intentional to match the theme. These are action figures with limited articulation after all.
@@TheAmberFang i got that but i dont think the movement is the issue, i paused the video a few times and well to me (i know very little of animation) the characters moved correctly but it still seems off
@@RoialBrawl For an indie fighters it's honestly one of the BEST looking games I've ever seen. If you had told me a bigger company had done this I would have still thought the game looked excellent.
The aesthetic of this game is just stellar. If you hadn't told me this was a game you could have fooled me into thinking a screenshot from this game was actually an ad for a toy line from some long lost toy catalog. They even nailed the little deformation and seams of the plastic molds, too. Just incredible.
The beauty of the character design is in the FUSION! Conan + He-Man = Kronan TMNT + Battle Toads = Wolfgang Street Sharks + Biker Mice f/ Mars = Biker Barracuda And so on. . . PERFECT💯 Must Play 4 any 80's baby😮🤩❤️🔥😎👌🏽
Backed this day one. Was hoping someone big in the fgc would give it some coverage to help it get some traction. Was happy to see your video in my feed this morning!
This is amazing. How many hours of my life were spent imagining these fights while I was a kid. Now they're coming to life?! Heading over to Kickstarter now. Day 1 asphalt fish main here.
We have, but it was a semi-obscure arcade game called Toy Fighter; IIRC made by the people who did Fighters Destiny for the N64. To which, knock offs of the Toy Fighter cast in this would be immense
@@gimmeyourrights8292 Clay Fighters on the N64. It was awesome to me because it had Earthwork Jim and Boogerman, which I loved paying both on my Genesis.
Thank you to the Developers for giving me a bit of an early look at the game, and you at home will be able to play as well TODAY! **edit** DEMO IS NOW LIVE ON THE MAIN WEBSITE. Website linked in the video description
I've backed since it launched and have been trying to get the word out on social media about this. I'm glad someone is giving it some love. It needs the attention to get more support.
Long long ago, I dreamt up a fighting game kind of like this, where toys inspired by different media would do battle. It woulda had Woody and Buzz Lightyear expys, a Transformer, a mecha model kit, TMNT-like action figure, a stuffed animal, and even a Barbie knockoff. Cool to see someone bringing a similar idea to life!
Dream Mix TV for PS2 have that, tho instead of GI Joe, you have Solid Snake, instead of He Man, you have Simon Belmont but it does have Transformers vs a Barbie knockoff
As a 46 year old former Fighting game teen/young adult in the 90's and of course an 80's kid that played with so many action figures... this is my jam!!
The fact that this game managed to relive what it's like playing with your favorite toys, along with getting passed copyright laws is just plain awesome. I can't wait for this to come out and play
I'm always floored by the fact that you can take a fighting game that you've never played before and immediately figure out an insane looking combo. That's some Captain N: The game Master, stuff there
First time developers going with a fighting game as their first game is crazy enough, but to ask for 250k right off the bat as well, this game looks incredible but these guys are taking the biggest gamble I've ever seen in my life.
Dear lord the amount of possible fighters is staggering. Barbie doll, G.I.Joe doll, My Little Pony, Bionicle, a living glob of Play-Doh, Mr. Potato Head with interchangeable pieces for stances, just straight up a literal Teddy Bear, an RC Monster Truck.... Hell you could just have five not Yu-Gi-Oh cards floating in mid air with the card art being alive, all moving in unison and attacking with "paper cuts" and magic spells.
One thing I'm noticing is the Evolved Teenage Warrior Lizard character is his name is Wolfgang. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were all named after renaissance artists. Wolfgang could be named after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was a classical music composer. If true then that's a neat little callback.
The silhouette for an upcoming character indeed looks truly outrageous, too! And I see Oozebite resembles a certain chained-up monster, with some more "Gross-Out" elements added.
The articulated toy snakes on the super is a throwback that shows some excellent attention to detail. That's fantastic. Edit: throw a Stretch Armstrong expy in there and I'm down. Give me a M.A.S.K. character and I'll raise a glass.
They need to add, Power Ranger(Force Trooper, Hulk Hogan (Ripped Rogan) toy, Transformer(Converter), Ninja, X-Men (Mutator), Superhero, GI Joe (GI Jones. For shits and Giggles a Barbie in judo uniform (Combat Carley). Feel free to use any of these ideas if they are watching.
Making their assists unique to each character is such a cool way to expand the worldbuilding. It definitely makes them all feel more fully fleshed out as coming from individual IP's in this universe.
I've been waiting for something like this. God plz give it a budget! 🙏 the proof of concept is tremendous 👏 and the character pool could be endless!!!! I'd be happy to throw a few bucks in the hat. Happy to see you show this off. I found this randomly JUST before their Kickstarter, and I know it's struggling - they really needed to drum up exposure _before_ heading to Kickstarter, but fighting game UA-cam hasn't shown this off enough yet to do that. It's nice to see ya do this Rooflemonger while Justin Wong, Matty McMuscles, Maximilian Dood, Woolie, etc. are sleeping on it. Feel bad for the devs though. They REALLY need that exposure...
This is really cool cause like about two years ago I worked on a coloring book about toys fighting each other doing wrestling moves. And now seeing this shows how influences of childhood still grows!
The One Thing that would really help the look of the game would be some substantial hitstop. The characters look kind of like they're flailing a bit as it is now.
Demo was fun and rather competent, found a death combo from a light starter with Kronan in first 2 minutes though. It seems scaling is not really present as of yet. MVC it definitely is in that aspect.
Very neat idea and I hope it continues. i am here for the aesthetic. One con if I can say is that all the animation looks . . . slippery I guess? Character sliding too forward or making huge animation changes during combos. Might just be me
