      I want to be toy photographer, been shooting toys for a couple years, but I'm still trying to find my own voice. Plus there's like a gazillion toy photographers out there. I'd love to make a living out of it I just don't know how to go about it.

    Definitely the hardest thing I'm trying to accept, is that I need to find a niche. I found one, landscape photography, its just very hard to make a living from it. So when I got into commercial photography and being based in Ireland and also coming from a graphic design background, being an all rounder, the best all rounder was what I felt could be my niche. Headshots, products, point me in a direction and I'll get you what you need. But having talked with you and attended your workshops and watched your videos, I'm so confused right now

      haha, love bringing the confusion in. Landscape is doable, you just have to package it right. There are some photographers on the AOP under that category who shoot big ad campaigns or parts of them.

    I’m interested to know your opinion: If I decided to do lets say female environmental portraiture, would you take it a step further and specialise in just black and white, to become even more specialised? 👍🏼

    You make it sound so easy and get excited thinking about it, but then I realize that I've never been able to do it. I'm at a point where I need to make a move, but I don't have a specific set of skills and I've done such a broad rage of work as a photographer and a graphic designer. I've also done alright doing it, but never great.
    I feel like I've always been to scattered and can't figure out what type of photography I'm best at and what to commit to. Maybe the answer is none.
    Regardless, I enjoy your content and will continue to watch. Thank you for the time you spend.

    Thanks once more for sharing your knowledge, experience, and wisdom in this unique field (niche!). I’ve been shooting crap since I was a kid; I’m 67 now. Before the lockdown, I took an Advertising Photography class at a local community college. Love every bit of it! Great professor. And the part I loved most was the food photography. Since then, I’ve shot for a dozen small restaurants and lots of test shoots and find my passion only increasing. I’d love to find my style and niche. As you often say, a year and half is hardly enough time to master anything in this field. But I’d love to land some editorial work (hello New York Times, the various food magazines?!), some recipe books perhaps, and bigger clients for ad work. I will keep cracking on as you also often say simply because I do love it! If you have anything more for guys like me, I’ll be tuning in here regularly and feasting on every bit you share. Keep it up and I hope this is beginning to augment your “regular” income!

      BTW, I live about two hours drive from Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Too far for pizza restaurants, but close enough for more worthwhile client shoots.

    Heyy Scott, thanks a lot for this video. it is indeed helpful. I request you to help me in having clarity in choosing right niche. I like to know which genre meets the most among all. These keywords defines how I perceive photography. "Celebration", "Wonder", "Adventure", "heart-melting", "Compassion" "feminine-behavioural_element-Surrender" (Last word:. What I imply with last word is that it touches your heart to the core, it melts your heart, or it gives you purpose, it brings compassion out of you, You are fulfilled emotionally, something rekindles within you, that I call LIFE) Even though few things are obvious, weird, I still want to know. Thanks again.

    I've had a very hard time creating the income to keep me afloat. Which has made it much harder to find my style and niche. I am making progress and I'm starting to see style in the my portfolio but I do need to make more money if I want to be able to keep honing it.

    Great vid as always Scott. Whilst I totally agree with you on the point of "finding your niche" I am concerned if there is a danger that you could pick a niche that nobody wants? What if your 'style' is not in line with the current trend?

    • @TinHouseStudioUK
      @TinHouseStudioUK  3 роки тому +1

      Trends come and go all of the time. and usually there are enough brands wanting enough different styles that it doesn't matter. In the UK KFC, Mc Donalds, and Burger King for example all have totally different styles of images from completely different agencies and photographers.

      @@TinHouseStudioUK Good to know. I have been beating myself up over that. It would be just my luck to choose the complete wrong style and be hunting for work that isn't out there! 🤣 Thanks Scott. P.S looking forward to your marketing workshop next month 👍

    I’m definitely struggling with this. I know I definitely like minimalist, painterly, fine art style. I also like sequencing and documentary. I’ve mostly been making my money off of family portraits and weddings but i feel like I’m not that good at weddings. I do like the family portraits but I want to work in advertisement I just don’t know what should I take on.

      I think what you're saying what you wanna be doing is like lifestyle storytelling. Magazine cover stories. I only say this because your comment literally felt like my own exact struggle (minus the family portraits).

    Hello just came across your channel. I’m struggling with narrowing down.
    I’m a culinary teacher at a school but want my own business and recently got a used canon dslr and then I signed up for a online course. But I don’t have a blog, website or don’t know where to start. My specialty is plant based, vegan, macrobiotics and gluten free but I’m thinking it would be natural foods but how do you make money with that kind of food? I don’t use fake products. I also like food plating any kind of food so it’s a struggle trying to pick something. Appreciate you input. Thanks!
