I REALLY rarely get sad over someone famous dying/killing themselves. Reckful was of the very few streamers I enjoyed watching. I was really looking forward to seeing him happy after releasing Everland and watching his videos with Dr K. It's sad that people call for taking mental illness seriously only after someone kills themselves. Rest in peace, Byron.
same, been watching him weekly since 2012-2013 and I haven't stopped crying for 2 hours. fuck man, just fuck. I'd give up anything to have him be back

I really don’t think this was a case of anyone not taking mental health seriously, from Byron’s roommates statement, nothing could be done.
People very rarely take mental illness seriously enough, when its consequences are preventable and also when it's too late.

45:30 this remind me of something Zizek said, that we are driven by fantasy but the paradox is that once you actualize your fantasy it turns into a nightmare. Like Hikaru said you think “I need a career and a house to be happy”. It is a fantasy, an image of something you feel driven to. But once you get the house and the career that fantasy fades away and turns into a nightmare because your expectations won’t match reality and your fantasy and drive will shatter.
One of the many paradoxes of human existence. Your drive is always towards something you haven’t obtained so it can only sustain itself as long as you don’t have it which defeats the purpose. If you are cold you just seek warmth and then you are content, with our fantasies we can only be content if we don’t reach them.

I think that even though streamers are competing against each other, they can still stream together and have a good time, even though they're not friends. That's a completely different mindset than chess though where you're trying to kill each other.

What makes me so sad is that his situation was even worse than normal depression it seemed like it was incurable. Most sad thing I’ve ever seen
The issue also was that I don't think he had health insurance and he had tried mental care once, and he had a bad experience. That made him not want to try again. A person like Byron should have had full health insurance from day one, since you know you are prone to severe mental issues, also.. he really should have given it another chance, there must be other well renovn clinics he could have given a shot. I feel that he gave up on his only possible escape to happiness a bit to easily, but when you are as sick as him you are not always doing the correct choices. I kinda feel that someone should have pushed him or even forced him to give it another try. When people have to stop you from jumping multiple times, they really should protect you from yourself and put your ass into forced healthcare to save your life. I guess you still can't blame anyone, you kinda need to want it yourself to a degree. It felt like Reckful in some way just wanted to have it like it was, even though he wanted happiness. It was like he was missing the piece to trigger him to really focus on his issues and battle them head on, instead he was just drowning in them. Very sad, and nothing can be changed about that now.

You see. When terrible things like these happen, there are always many facettes and povs to consider. One would be that as a true friend you'd absofuckinglutelty would ensure the safety of the person in danger even if that would require for you to basically camp their home or stay awake all the time. The truth is though, everyone has a life to live, so even a true friend would not be able to throw his obligations away and monitor a person in danger 24/7.
Secondly, Byron (May he rest in peace) did not show immediate signs of distress in the days to come. His last stream though, was the loudest yell for help I have ever witnessed and it hurt me manifold, seeing him contemplate the great beyond.
Thirdly, he was an intelligent man. An organized, planned-out, man. He knew, that if he were to do something 100%, he would do it successfully. So him offing himself early in the morning hours, talking approximately 3-5 am here, where most folks are deep aslumber or on the road on their way to work, there was virtually no chance for anyone to stop him.
Humanely impossible conditions to save his life there.
The only people, who could've done something right then and there, were the people in his stream and to my great surprise NONE of those even suspected him being in danger.
Even though his masked cries for help during the stream were LOUD AS THUNDER. AND YET NOT A SINGLE SOUL OF HIS CHAT CONSIDERED RAISING THE ALARM.
That is what makes me lose myself. Not only did none of those incels in chat realize his condition. Some of those abysmally pitiful excuses of human beings indulged into trolling him on the spot.
Usually telling someone to kill themselves doesn't do much. Most people are mentally stable and confident in their life.
BUT it only takes ONE slight moment of weakness for someone to make those words become sharp as a blade and then they cut right through their heart.
On the day of Byrons last stream.
On that day shortly before he went offline.
On that day Byron did not kill himself.
On that day Byron was killed by those subhumans in his chat.
He was murdered. Literally murdered by words.
Words hold a lot of power folks. Glance at all the recent events engulfing us in an undying flame of pain and distress. They all emerge from words.
Words hold great meaning and even greater influence.
Saying the right thing, to the right person, at the right time, can either make or break them.
Please. PLEASE. I BEG OF ALL OF YOU.

I think too many people just dismiss what they talk about at the 50 minute mark. When you have achieved everything in your life basically and you have no goals anymore, that must suck really bad. People need a sense of purpose in their life. Having vacation every day sounds nice at first, but I dont think that you can get happy in the long term doing that.

Life is not a hedonic treadmill for me. Maybe just like drug addiction some people get addicted to feelings that are a little too pleasurable. If you get everything you need you can live a happy life but if you start introducing things like fame and fortune suddenly you need more hits of those drugs. You can't go backwards just like you can't go backwards with drugs.

It seems that the Corona Situation destroyed all the progress he made in the last few month. It was often discussed in the last few month that it would increase suicide rates because for people with depression its a very dangerous situationto be at home with nothing to do. Even it was a known thing, apparently there was nobody around him who saw that he was highly at risk in this situation.
