When I blogged this puzzle, I commented that I didn't find it very difficult for a Mephisto. Seeing David's solve, I wonder how I ever managed to finish, since I don't have a lot of the vocabulary he has. I did have to look up a few words in Chambers.
For me this was a peek through the door labelled Mephisto. Suitably humbled I now tiptoe back down the corridor to the more familiar Times Cryptic room, where much improvement is still required. Bravo sir, that was an impressive solve!
I'm learning so many new words by watching these videos. 17:55 "The ending looks... adjectival."

Congratulations David on the 3k milestone, you’ll reach 5k in the not too distant I suspect
I could have been here until the end of the year and not got half of those clues. Lovely solve!
That was impressive. I used to solve these many years ago but only with the help of a dictionary. It seems they have got harder over the years.
Just when I think I'm improving at crosswords I realise how much further there is to go.
Incredible vocabulary, and humbling.
Wonderful! Thank you for sharing this. Love it.
Studying all the capitals pays out on this one! Congrats on 3k!
Wow! What a fantastic solve. 29 Across would have been my one and only input into into this grid. 😁 I think I'll steer well clear of the Mephisto.
Congrats on the subs and thanks for the solve.
Splendid.
Phenomenal
Wow that was insane. The Times crossword looks like easy mode now in comparison to this one.
Congratulations.
