This video is 2 years old but to me it's like an epiphany. I've been experimenting with different techniques with limited success. This video made me realize I've been compensating for hitting with my arms for the last 40 years. Thanks Paul! New bucket list item is to get to one of your schools.
Glad it was helpful! Glad you see that experimenting is not going to work. Been there done that. Just stick to the plan. I will get you there in a few moves. Simple is the key.
One of the things I love most about your videos is that they all go together without contradicting the other and leading to confusion. Thank you for the consistency and smart yet simple teaching style.
Glad you like them! I have been teaching the way I do since 1991. I know what works and what doesn't. How people learn as well as what they can learn. For me it is about people understanding it. Seeing the big picture. Once they see that they see the importance of a certain move or position. I had tons of questions growing up that no one could ever answer. If you don't tell me "why" then why am I going to do it. I tell people why. Then try to make it simple enough they can do it.
@@paulwilsongolf I totally get it. I've been a music teacher since the late 90s and I have a similar philosophy. I am now able to compare proper guitar/bass technique and muscle memory to golf in my music lessons. LOL.
Paul, please keep sharing your wisdom. You are the only instructor that explains the swing. All the other youtube coach only talks about the face and path
Thanks for the support. I just hate it when people don't get it. I was doing my own thing for quite a few years now (not on youtube). I have been watching what is going on and what is being taught and of course, people are not improving. So, the virus has given me time to get back on here and finally get people to play their best golf. I have taught my stuff since 1991. I get amazing results. So as the days and months go by and I keep posting people will finally get better. They will tell others and it will spread. Then everyone can have more fun playing this game. It's going to be an interesting ride. Stay tuned.
Give credit where credit is due grandpa always said. Mr. Wilson, thank you very much for changing my golf game. I love the game so much I would wake much too early to prepare for a day on the links ,and play mediocre at best. I have some athleticism ,so I can hit a ball 230 -240 yards, but it takes everything I have. I’m 57 ,and as I age I would have pain in my right knee after 18 holes ,and would need to wait a couple days to play again. That was downright depressing. After watching your videos for close to a year the body swing finally sunk into my stubborn existence :) Muscle memory at times takes me back to my old swing ,and immediately gives me horrible feedback. This new swing that you have given me enables me to not just be able to play every day, but I can now hit a golf ball 20 yards further with driver, with seemingly little effort. The sound of the driver club face is completely different now also. Hitting irons was always a bit of a mystery to me. Although I have a strong body I thought I would be able to hit a 7 iron more than 145 yards. I couldn’t. 3, and 4 irons I thought was something only the pros understood properly. I’m now hitting my 4 iron 190-200 yards and straight. My 7-iron almost 160 yards. However, all that said, one of the most important lessons was about greed in golf.I now swing within my physical abilities, and amazed at the results. The ball goes a little bit further with 50% more accuracy. I’m loving golf these days. I couldn’t thank you enough Paul Wilson. RJH, Canada
So glad you found me and are doing well. Also glad you made the changes. Now you are seeing the results. Hopefully, you see how this swing will allow you to play forever. Keep at it.
Very good. Love hearing it. It is not that hard. Most people are hitting with the arms. This tightens them up and narrows the arc so no divot. Not sure if you saw this one too. Be a good watch for you as well: ua-cam.com/video/_ji_zykZlY8/v-deo.html
@@paulwilsongolf Thanks Paul I have. Again the clear explanation. This time of an elliptical swing path around a double axis is so powerful. Helped me understand what's going on in a golf swing. Your communication of this is first class. Thanks.
it’s not that i don’t understand what other people are saying you just give me another way to look at it that i understand so i appreciate that very much
I combine this with the wrist hinge drill, where you choke up on the grips and then extend the grip in stages. The moment I compress the ball is like a light going off. Your visualization techniques also help with my focus during the swing.
Yipeayayeah - hit my first two divots yesterday on the round! Thanks again for this drill and clip and again, your great explanations. The neutral grip also helps along; there' s still way to go regarding loosening up the wrists BUT I already increased my distances on all clubs (!) for approx. 20 meters! If successful in loosening the wrists, my 6I now goes 160-180m instead the usual 110-130!!!! W7 now on average (!) 150m instead 110. Amazing to see and inspiring, too. I will keep on, learning the bodyswing. These are awesome changes for a lady with Hcp-23 Many many thanks to you and your team!!! Played a 78 yesterday on a Par63 course. And for the first time in my 5yrs golfing career it feels absolotely repeatable...
Fantastic tip, Paul. I'm so glad I saw this video! Making my arms "ridiculously soft" instantly made a tremendous difference, the relaxation I gained transferred to all other aspects of my swing. Thank you! You're a hidden treasure to aspiring golfers.
Glad you liked it and glad you loosened up. Weird feeling for most people at first. Need to trust it and try it. You see the results. Hopefully others try it too.
Thanks for taking over where our famed George Knudsen left off. I incorporate your lesson with the 9 to 3 drill. Great stuff. Thanks for your videos. Especially enjoy your Senior lessons
He was an influence for sure. Glad you liked the tips. More to come. Although I do tailor some tips to seniors everything I teach applies to all people. Keep at it.
Exactly, this is the whole point. If it's easy the person will understand it. Then they will try it. If they try it for more than 3 balls they will hit some amazing shots and hopefully keep doing it. Making it complicated is going to get you nowhere. Glad you found me.
Your presentation and teaching method is beyond imagination. With your tall experience, amateurs must take an advantage. I am approaching 80 ,, ALL I WANT TO PLAY BETTER GOLF
Thank you so much. I just want people to finally understand the golf swing and what to do. So many people struggling out there when they don't have to.
OK. I’ve watched a dozen or so of your tips. I took 6 of them to the range yesterday and hit 100 balls focusing on all 6 of them in sets. I agree that the grip felt a little strange to begin with. I did the L to L and the Y drills, the loose grip, the loose arms, the head weight transfer and everything else i could remember like ball position, leading edge lined up with my forearm at the top, etc. . I hit some bad shots. I hit some clunkers. But I persisted. Once I felt I had the feel of what you were trying to get me to do, I moved on. I could not believe the trajectory of the last 25 balls or so! The driving range was empty so I’d set up directly in front of the line of distance flags. By the end of my session EVERY iron was going directly over the line of flags. EVERY ONE! I am so STOKED to take this to the course tomorrow! My driver is back in the bag. My Popeye arms are taking the day off. FORE!!!!!
Very good. Glad you had a list and tried them and keep doing it. A lot of people quit after a few attempts. Now you see you can do it. Take your time and work through it.
So glad you are doing well. Great feeling when your score start coming down. You are on your way. Keep doing daily practice swings working on the drills and positions. This is the fastest way to get it. Keep up the good work and thanks for the support.
IMO, your technique is the best out there! Got your system and it has changed my game. As long as I keep my arms loose, I hit it better than I ever have. Thanks!
Thanks. I appreciate it. Keep at it and make the positions I teach more and more perfect. It is about the movement. Get the movement ... you get the ball. Too many are trying to get the ball without the movement.
Hi Paul I've been playing for 7 years and this past year have been taking the game more seriously. Been really struggling with consistent contact, ball flight and distance. This video really hit home for me as I've finally experienced compressing the golf ball today at the range. Never taken a good divot in my life and finally understand how. Not able to do it consistently yet but at least I know now what it takes to repeat it. Looking forward to the next range session and keep up the great content!
Thanks so much. I can actually work with anyone, anywhere in the world now with my new app. It is live, video coaching. You can find out more here: bodyswing.com/coachlink People who have used it are loving it because now they know what to work on. This is not swing analysis. This is live video coaching. Take a look.
Thanks, Paul - I like that this tip and the last several are all consistently making the same point. It's helping me commit to this move. Almost there with the driver but not taking nice full divots with irons. Clipping it still instead of compressing it - can also tell cuz distance is off about 1/2 a club. Also trying to remember to turn with the lower body in order to deliver the arms and the club - i.e., not 'hitting'. Keep em coming!
Getting the feeling is definitely important. I'm making good progress on the range, but on the course it's so hard to keep the arms loose and let go of control when there are consequences. Of course by trying to stay in control and keep bad things from happening, you tense up and make bad things happen. Gotta keep working on it.
You need to go out by yourself with 3 golf balls in your pocket. You don't keep score. You swing at 50%. Drop balls and hit extra shots. It is about actually trying something new when you play. If you keep doing your old swing when do you ever change.
Today I hit my 8 iron and driver further doing this. The good thing about letting it go and stretching your arms out is that you have to rotate your body to do it. So many good things happen automatically with this move. Thanks very much for this.
Very good. So glad you tried it and see the effect. So many people have a chicken wing and never get the compression. Stay focused. I would watch these too: ua-cam.com/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/BGHnUgPa_1U/v-deo.html
I went with this “loose approach” and my goodness... never seen better results. I’m hitting the ball so far now! I literally had some people at the driving range ask me for tips on what I was doing to hit so far because it looked so effortless. My handicap is around 12-13 and I’m looking to become a single digit handicapper. I hope this will lead me to that goal! Thank you!!!
Another convert. Just a matter of time before everyone will be trying to do this. I can't believe people aren't sick of whacking at it as hard as they can and hitting it everywhere. Human nature. The snowball is now starting to roll down the hill. In about a year everyone will be loosening up. I hope.
Very good. That is all I am asking people to do. Just try it. I've been getting amazing results since 1991 so I know it works if the student just does it a different way. Turn the arms off completely and use the body.
Decided to work on your system a few weeks ago and done the drills which are going well right up to the point I put the ball down. As soon as I see it seem to revert to type and try and hit it. Sticking with it though
Right. You are thinking of hitting the ball. In doing so you are always trying to hammer it as hard as you can. So stop. Tell yourself you are learning something new and you are not good at it. To get good at it you at least have to do it. So do it at 50%. Do this drill until you can actually do it: ua-cam.com/video/cVhtL-d1B9Y/v-deo.html This takes your arms an hitting out of it. Then you need to get power by using your legs and hips. So build it up gradually with the legs and hips. If you feel the arms creep back in then back it off and start again. Focus. This will be way better for you in the future.
Hi Paul. I have a question about the grip strength while also trying to loosen the arms. Seems like total loss of the club if the grip is also too loose. Just would love to hear how you instruct your students to have enough grip strength while at the same time getting loose arms. Hope you see this question and able to answer. I really enjoy listening to you instruct. I can tell you're wanting to make a difference.
@@paulwilsongolf Thanks Paul. I really appreciate you posting the link to the grip thoughts you have. I never thought about tightening the grip at the top my swing to an 8 from a 2 at set up. That makes sense to me now and I'm going to try it. I've found that loosening the arms definitely helps, but sometimes my grip then is too loose at impact. I try to concentrate on loosening the "forearms" but keeping a tight enough grip. Similar concept but your grip video is giving me another thought. Thank you.
Hi Paul. I love your instructional videos. Your explanations are very concise and make sense. My problem is 1, I am 79 yrs old, and 2, I had a left knee replacement about 6 years ago and I find it difficult to transfer weight to my left side on my follow through. It may be more mental than physical but I just can’t get over the feeling that I will do damage to my knee. Any suggestions ? Thank you.
Thanks so much. Most of my students are in their late 60's to 70's. My oldest who came for a lesson was 86 I think. The knee is a non issue. This is mental. I have taught countless people with fake knee(s) and hips without issue. One lady had 2 brand new hips. She was flying it 240 and weighed about 110 lbs. She was in her 60's. You need to do my touch the legs position. Start out with your hand on a chair or vertical golf club to hold your balance. Left leg locks. Right comes around and touches it. I would do this too: ua-cam.com/video/7z5eUcSwlSk/v-deo.html Again, start out slowly. Human nature is trying to protect your left knee and there is a mental block too. So you need to keep locking it until you get used to it. Then roll onto the tip of the back toe. This is the motor of your swing so you need to learn it.
4:01 - Excellent instructions as always. Effectively, the entire front of the body has moved to a new location, which is 2 feet past the ball at address. In golf, the goal is NEVER about the BODY returning to the address position when contact occurs! Instead, the goal is to have the front of the BODY facing 2 feet past the ball. As a practice drill, I used to intentionally face my body past the ball, and only then set the club behind the ball. Then I'd swing half or full way back and return to that position, over and over. Later I added in lateral side bend with rotation. Later still, I added in, not swinging the arms from the top, just let them come along for the ride (still practicing this one)
Glad you liked it. Thanks. Your body changes from the original set up due to firing the lower body in the downswing. When you do, it's like hitting the accelerator on a car. Your whole body goes back which tilts you back and lower to the ground. This also creates and oval to your swing which creates the descending blow and a divot (if the lead arm is extended). ua-cam.com/video/avE8KOSh_vs/v-deo.html So don't make it too complicated. Get the fundamental moves and the rest will happen without thinking about it. Grip, setup, coil hinge, uncoil, rehinge. Stick to that.
Yes, you watched my tip so obviously you trying to lean it was not working which is what I said in the video. Now you can stop trying to do it and allow the right fundamentals do it for you. It is super loose in your arms in the downswing. So keep going looser and looser until you start seeing divots and the club feels heavy as you swing it. Let's get you there.
I have hit off mats many times over the years and never have a problem so it is really about learning the fundamentals so you make better contact which doesn't hurt the wrists. The big keys would be getting the weight off the back foot through impact so you are not hitting it fat. Then you need loose wrists so the shock of a mis hit is absorbed and doesn't radiate into your wrists and arms. Then I would be doing more practice swings working on positions then hitting ball after ball. This way you are building the swing. The better the swing the better the contact the less pain from hitting off mats.
Hi Paul great drill. Bucket of balls? Is it ok to start this drill putting the ball on a tee? Is should it be shots off the mat/ground only? Just want to share been adopting this swing since April and some of my golf has been career best. And some has been awful. Feeling in a dark place with it just now, hope that by doing some of these drills ill become more consistent and the good golf will be more frequent and much better. Thanks for sharing your swing 😊
Definitely tee it up to make it easier. Bucket of balls for sure. Hit the balls where you can hit balls. You need to practice the drills and moves daily. You cannot take breaks. You cannot work on too many things and get confused. Keep it super simple.
Outstanding viewpoint and tips. Am applying all aspects that I can and trying to rebuild my swing. Loose grip and jello arms but I often catch fat prior to storming the ball. Leaning over too far? Too tight still? Thank you for all your hard work and effort
Thanks for this video Paul, I thought it hit the ball well but never compressed the bell as well as I should playing off 3.5, I tried this yesterday and wow it felt effortless and was taking really good divots and hitting nearly every green and shot -1 🕺 I was hitting my 3w long but when I came to driver the feeling didn’t work and I could stop hitting a fade, not sure why, I felt exactly the same as my other clubs, still really happy with how it went m, thanks 🙏
If you are fading it the face is open. So why would the face be open? Your wrist are a hinge. They hinge and rehinge. If the face was open the hinge was too tight. So you need to loosen the hinge. It's with driver so that would tell me you are trying to hit it too hard which is looking your wrists. So roll the wrists manually and early and get it hooking. Then you are at least squaring the face. You are overdoing it and hooking it. So you get it hooking then you switch to body to straighten it out. Do this early to get the wrists releasing: ua-cam.com/video/Xk7t9yHCO-I/v-deo.html
Thanks. Because I don't want people hitting it sideways then spending 10 years trying to figure out why they can't hit a fairway to save their life. Been there done that. I had this position in my swing for years. I still bow the wrist as I approach impact (without thinking about it because the club is not at its widest point). Even though I hit 1,000 balls per day every day 7 days a week for the first 2 years of trying to get my swing back I couldn't hit a fairway to save my life. What they are telling you is great for my business. I did a tip on this here: ua-cam.com/video/uRWI8Mhnsa8/v-deo.html Just wiggle that face a couple of degrees you will miss the fairway. A tick on a clock is 6 degrees. You have a third of a tick on a clock. Have fun with that. Now I am probably 80% fairways and I never practice.
Hi Paul, thanks for another great video. I'm a bit confused about the concept of delofting the club face. How do I deloft the face if I don't incorporate some form of forward shaft lean (i.e. getting the handle of the club ahead of the club face) at impact. I apologize for being obtuse about this but I think I must be missing something. Thank you in advance for your reply.
This is one of the best tips I have ever used. Have had major difficulty compressing probably from casting. It took me to my second round to get used to it and I began to stripe the ball, 3 approaches to within 2 feet. I still have a tendency to occasionally hit it right with this move. Any suggestions? Your material is fantastic. We will likely be in Vegas in the next year. Will contact you or your team for a lesson. Prefer “the master” though!
Glad you liked it. This is a good one for sure. If you are hitting it right the face is open. I would think you are coming out of it trying to see the amazing shot you think you're going to hit. Coming out of it tightens the wrists which holds the face open. So delay your reaction to see the result. I would work on this: ua-cam.com/video/X_pF7x-OCXU/v-deo.html and this to loosen your wrists: ua-cam.com/video/5_O0H2QNFo0/v-deo.html Glad you like the tips. Definitely look me up if you come to town. My assistant just moved so I am a one man show out here now.
New to your videos.... Back to playing golf after 20+ year layoff lol.....Do the pga pros used your principles? Or is your stuff unique? I went to range with 1991 Big Bertha driver and used the loose grip and wrists method....I believe I was hitting ball about 10-15 yards more than a couple weeks ago when I was using mostly power
Every pro uses the legs and hips to hit the ball. If they do a slow looking golf swing they are using their body with little arms. If it looks fast they are using both. My stuff is unique in the sense I tell you why you need to do certain things. Knowing why is important so you will actually do it. I keep it simple so you will actually understand what to do and do it. I in a way no one teaches (this is in my Body Swing product). I say and see things totally different to anyone else. There are some similarities but differences too. You are already seeing that it works so keep watching the tips and you will play great golf.
Great video (again), I only want to see you hit a few more during these tutorials. I am trying to see how much you actually lean back, does not seem to be too much. But like I say, thanks for the awesome videos, I think this is why I am topping at least three or four shots every round.
Glad you liked it. The backwards tilt increases the longer club you hit. Fire the lower harder you get more tilt. Like hitting the accelerator on a car. Topping is a clue telling you you are hitting too hard with your arms. Do you top it when you are swinging easy? Doubt it.
@@paulwilsongolf Got it. I don't top many clubs aside from the driver. I am a fairly new golfer (maybe 15 full rounds played), but hitting the range a lot lately, so these tips are helping me a ton.
Glad you enjoyed. Anyone can do this. You just need to see it differently, understand it and try something new (not hit with arms). Keep watching and trying the things I am mentioning in the tips. Also, go back and watch my other tips if you haven't done so already. ua-cam.com/users/paulwilsongolfvideos
Paul, love these concepts!! I've got an older junior golfer (15) just starting out. We've started with grip and ball position. What's the best way to move forward from there. I've discussed the hinge rehinge technique. His backswing is way too long. We've tried shortening it. If we were to do virtual lessons with you, would you need a 3rd person like me to help him with certain drills? Thanks!!
Thanks. The younger the player the faster they learn it. I would pick up my body swing program and go through that. I teach in a very specific way and order. That is exactly how I teach everyone who comes to me for lessons. As you go through that, you can connect with me through my app and I can quickly check it. The positions I teach are simple so if I can see what he is doing I can guide whoever is helping him to get him in the exact position. Yes, this is an investment but it's a small price to pay for a lifetime of great golf. Feel free to email us if you need more info. paulwilsongolf.com got to contact us in the top links.
that single plane drills has destroyed my game..he teaching the drill to hold the lag through impact got me basic shanking the ball holding it so long train the brain to throw the hosel at the ball like that...im trying to get that out i playing good but it still comes back then i have to fight it get it back out on the fly....another great video im glad you showing us what you learning with others
I have a wood swing thats all i use to do growing up go hit the driver see how far i could hit it...i have struggled with irons...but driver 3 wood hybrids is long perfect shots but doing this swing it is a lot better now i just fighting golf elbow right now i going to put graphite in my irons i seen a guy said i need that it will help with golfers elbow
an my wrist been very sore i been strecthing them off the bone get them looser i was very tight..it has helped i looked it up on youtub how to get the wrist loose..an got me some new grips coming midsize to help me hold club better i have copper tunel in both hands.i got me hand exciser to help strength also to help hold club since i been training your swing now
Paul....when i watch pros on tv...it seems that on some iron shots....on their finish....its sawed off..not a full finish?.....?.the club looks like its not released?....i see it more and more?...whats happening here?...and why/what are they trying to achieve?
They are trying to hit it lower with spin. I would do this too if I was hitting a punch shot. Fleetwood is probably the poster body for this. Looking back in history none of the best players of all time hit this shot all the time. I don't like it because it tightens you up and leads to potentially manipulating the face. I prefer letting it go allowing physics to consistently square the face.
Due to age and lack of flexibility I find it impossible to have loose feeling arms and also have a mostly straight left arm. If I really put effort into holding a straight left arm, my club points almost straight up to the sky at the top of the back swing and that produces no sense of power (it feels like I'm holding a slack rope and there is no feel of effortless power). To get the club near horizontal at the top my left arm would need to be bent at least 45 degrees. So is left are straightness important at all or is it more important to get the club in a position where there is going to be some lag once you get back to the bottom?
This is exactly what you don't want to do. In no way do I want you keeping the lead arm straight. You do this and you are sure to lock up. So keep it extended but not locked. Hinge fully in your wrists shown here: ua-cam.com/video/KZAj2Bk8Roc/v-deo.html The importance is fully hinging your wrists then allowing this lead arm to fully extend as you hit the ball then both arms just past the ball. Keep working on this. You tighten up those arms and you will hit it no where. That is certainly not a good thing. Stay super loose and use the coiling and uncoiling of your body for power.
@Paul - What's your opinion about allowing the heel of the lead foot to lift a little, in an effort to get that knee at or behind the ball? Should I keep the heel down? Probably make for a little shorter swing, which may not be a bad thing in my case, but does make it harder to get that knee behind the ball.
I shot video of my swing a few yeas ago and I started to lift it a little. Not sure why but a little is okay. If you are limber then keep it down. I am super-tight so I lift it a little but I too am working on things right now in my swing so I need to lift it. Maybe 2" would be max unless you are 85 years old
Paul, love you tips but I can only hit the ball solid and straight with an extremely weak grip. Left hand on the side of club and right hand on top almost more around on the left side of club. Extremely awkward and I know it’s wrong but my shots are so much better this way than In a neutral or strong grip. Any idea why that would be?
I consistently make solid contact with the short irons but my game totally falls apart with mid range irons (6 and 7). I hit all duffs and shanks. Do you have a video related to my problem?
Your tips are making such a huge impact on my drives, regularly belting 300 plus with a very smooth swing. I'm struggling so bad to get that same feeling with the irons, it's almost like because of the shorter length, I don't feel the lag as much, and I'm blocking a lot of them right. Any ideas how to feel the lag? I think I'm tensing up a little when hitting off the ground because the the divot too. Ugh.
Very good. You just said it. You are tensing up. Hitting with arms. I have a tip coming that addresses this exact issue. Will post tomorrow. Stop hitting down on the ball. Swing the irons and 50% for a bit. Get it. Then speed up only the legs and hips for more power. Stay tuned.
So you can't tell that you are whacking at the ball as hard as you can with just your arms. For me, I feel nothing in my arms. I feel my legs and hips powering the swing. ***START HERE*** Body Swing Concept: ua-cam.com/video/E8y9jEyY35k/v-deo.html Grip: ua-cam.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/v-deo.html Hinge Rehinge: ua-cam.com/video/6ZeTqcz2pmE/v-deo.html Secure Grip: ua-cam.com/video/Z8K3Gctkz7A/v-deo.html Power the swing with the legs and hip not the hands and arms. I love your concepts, I just would really appreciate more demonstration of the right way vice the over and over on the wrong way. I need to see the right way to do it... repeatedly. It's common in your videos, but this one had not a single demonstration of the correct swing. I gained very little from the video despite the fact that your advice is probably, in fact almost certainly, valid.
Glad you like them. I start explain what to do at 3:24 of this tip. Not sure why you repeatedly seeing me stretch my arms out is going to do anything more for you that you trying it. Also me just telling you what to do is not explaining the root cause of what you are doing to "not" allow them to stretch out. Gained very little from this video? I would suggest watching it again and take notes. This one is vital.
Only thing I run into is right after I hit the ball I make a huge divot then I get stuck. Ball does piece the air and goes far and straight, however I always try to fully turn and complete my swing. Feels weird sometimes.
You take a huge divot after the ball? Yeah, you are way too tilted at address and downing a reverse pivot. Stand up. Move your head back as you coil and stop trying to do this move to the left which some are teaching.
Paul, Maybe a stupid question. Any idea on knowing if I am doing this correctly (loose arms and what would be a divot) when hitting off a mat into a net in the garage? Oh. Congrats on the 100K subs. I think I saw you were at 99.8k yesterday.
Thanks. Big breakthrough. Now on to 500k then 1M. If you are doing it right on a mat the club would feel unmistakably heavy as you swing it. You get the pure compressed sound (you can see it if it hits the mat behind the ball) and you are going to video your swing and see if you are doing a chicken wing. I use the coaches eye app.
@@paulwilsongolf Thank you sir. Just downloaded the app and I will be working on the swing this evening. Your videos are very much appreciated. In the past if I felt like I wasn't compressing the ball I would just keep my hands forward which of course locks the wrists. I'm one of those guys who doesn't take divots. Time to change that.
@@paulwilsongolf Adding to this. I practiced a loose swing yesterday. A couple hundred swings. I noticed immediately I was getting more of a backswing because my wrists weren't locked. When I make it to the tee box, I usually forget what I had previously been working on. ie a swing thought of hitting from the inside. Today was different. I played a 9 hole course that had all par 3's with the exception of two par 4's. Reminded myself on that very 1st tee to be loose. With the exception of two bobbles (mishits) I made sure to swing loose and stretch out the swing so there was no chicken wing. Accuracy was so much better. Routinely I shoot anywhere between 35 to 37 on this par 29 course with a low of 33. Yes I had a chip in from off the green and made a 20 foot putt and another one that was about 15 feet but that is not what I'm proud of. I'm proud of staying loose. What I thought was a mishit on the 9th hole was a shot with a divot from the tee box and the ball landed nicely on the green. Today I shot a 28, one under par. Yes I realize it is a 9 hole short course but it is the best to par I've ever shot and 5 less than what I've ever shot on that course. After having a crappy day at work yesterday, today I am ecstatic. Thank you so very very much Paul.
Like this: Body Swing Concept: ua-cam.com/video/E8y9jEyY35k/v-deo.html Plus, you want your left arm extended not locked. If you are locking or forcing it you will be too tight.
I adore the idea of the body swing, but to find the perfect coordination between wrists and body rotation is incredible difficult. The rotation axis is changing from left to right. This fine coordination without the control instrument "arms" seems very training intensitive.
It's not that hard at all. Get half then work on the other half. So in this case master the grip and wrist release until you rarely hit the ball with slice spin. Then you know what it's going to do before you do it. Once you are at that level you start adding body until you hit it dead straight. Then you memorize how much body it took to hit it dead straight. Then you watch your ball to tell you if you need more or less body. See it is simple. You are thinking it is not.
i got me holder for my phone i was going to film my shots but the driving range at club was closed today for up keep i going to load the app on my phone i played today i hit ball good an wasnt hurting i think im through the pain now...i want you to look at my swing help me work on my swing club championship is sept 5 i want to win i got a 15 handicap but doing your swing im playing a lot better than that already
I don't need you to send a swing. CoachLink is live. Once you connect I see what you are doing. You can do this in hour backyard, at the range anywhere.
Coach Paul what do you think about this video at 7 : 34: ua-cam.com/video/J6ZHMPYcThE/v-deo.html He talks about compressing the golf ball and forward shaft lean. He says when your hands are forward that opens the club- so what you have to do is roll your wrists to square the club. I know you say turn off your arms but do you also turn off your hands? Hope you can see how he rolls his wrists in the video. Thanks!
Compressing the ball and forward shaft lean occur though the right fundamentals NOT by purposely hitting down on the ball. ua-cam.com/video/RM4OX3m2-90/v-deo.html Roll the wrists is a huge piece of this. As you roll you would be thinking about and feeling your arms. Once you master them you turn the arms OFF. Just turning your arms off will get you hitting great shots but it's not usually going to magically give you a swing that looks like a pros swing. You need to work on it. This is what I did. I worked on all positions and built the swing. The last step was turning my arms off.
It wasn't years ago. Maybe he did this as he changed his swing. I guarantee the weight on not more on this foot. I would think he is on the inner edge. Plus, he is a pro. You are not.
I say it. I repeat it. Then I say it again. There are many reasons for this. People are distracted, people don't hear it, YT doesn't like short tips anymore, I think of other things near the end etc etc. If people don't like it then can stop halfway through. No one is forcing them to watch. Here is a test for you. Listen to a whole tip and try to remember what I said. Jot down some notes. Then listen to it again. I guarantee you don't remember it even though I said it 3 times.
@paulwilsongolf thank you. Now I just need to work on my functional mobility!
Well, that is a piece of it. Got to be able to do the moves.
This guy is the smartest golf guy i ever listen to. Watch all his lessons if you want to get better. Thank you sir
I just see it differently. A lot of time spent trying to get the answers to my questions no one could give me.
Stay tuned.
You have a great (simple) way of explaining things, thanks for the tip!
You're very welcome!
RJH,
Canada
So glad you found me and are doing well. Also glad you made the changes. Now you are seeing the results. Hopefully, you see how this swing will allow you to play forever. Keep at it.
I just want to say that just a couple of videos on and what I’ve listened to I’ve been practicing and it’s been an amazing help to my game thank you 🙏
Great job! Keep at it.
Thank you for such a clear and simple explanation. I’ve finally started to take a divot regularly! Best wishes from Scotland.😊
Very good. Love hearing it. It is not that hard. Most people are hitting with the arms. This tightens them up and narrows the arc so no divot. Not sure if you saw this one too. Be a good watch for you as well:

@@paulwilsongolf Thanks Paul I have. Again the clear explanation. This time of an elliptical swing path around a double axis is so powerful. Helped me understand what's going on in a golf swing. Your communication of this is first class. Thanks.
You’re the best instructor I’ve ever had to improve my skills. Thanks for all your great lessons.
Glad to help. Thanks.
it’s not that i don’t understand what other people are saying you just give me another way to look at it that i understand so i appreciate that very much
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
I combine this with the wrist hinge drill, where you choke up on the grips and then extend the grip in stages. The moment I compress the ball is like a light going off. Your visualization techniques also help with my focus during the swing.
Very good. You are starting to get it. Keep at it.
That's great! Huge breakthrough for you. The divots are a good sing too. Keep up the good work.
The most excellent interpretation of swinging an iron!
Thanks so much. I appreciate it.
Keep at it.
Bought your program a year or so ago. Best thing I ever did. Thanks!
Great to hear! Thank you so much.
Great videos paul, you make it easy to follow, keep them coming 👍🏻
Glad you like them!
Fantastic, your teaching has been very simple and any golfer will understand.
I tried to give by you and found it is very simple as long as you swing and hit easy shot.
Key to success..EASY DOES
I did what you said and hit the best shot of my life, great teacher, explained very well
Very good. Need to keep doing it. Glad you like my teaching.
That's tremendous teaching. Oh, congrats on the 100k subs.👍👍
Thanks. I appreciate it.
I freaking love you Paul wilsoonnn. Is my 2nd year golfing and i thanks to you i broke 100s and hot 90s. And I'm making divots thanks to you.
Very good. A lot of it is understanding. Now stay focused. You've got this.
Since discovering your tips a little while ago, my game has improved dramatically, many thanks Paul.
Very good. I love hearing it.

Thanks so much. I can actually work with anyone, anywhere in the world now with my new app. It is live, video coaching. You can find out more here: bodyswing.com/coachlink People who have used it are loving it because now they know what to work on. This is not swing analysis. This is live video coaching. Take a look.
Paul Wilson Golf downloading it now!! See you soon!
Excellent! You are on your way.
I would watch these too:

Great tip on extension. Makes a lot of sense. Thank you Paul. BTW your talking about my lifelong problem, now I have something to practice.
Yes, this is big. If this has been a lifelong problem then it's time to put 100% of your time fixing it. This is seriously holding you back.
I have improved my scores by 10 strokes applying these techniques. Thank you..
Great job!
Appreciate all your videos Paul. Clear and concise always
Very welcome
I hope.
Great video. I’m going to try this tomorrow.
Very good. That is all I am asking people to do. Just try it. I've been getting amazing results since 1991 so I know it works if the student just does it a different way. Turn the arms off completely and use the body.
Paul you have made another excellent video. Mahalo!
Glad you enjoyed it
sound just like a interesting philosophy session. My idea of the swing is coming back. Thanksss. I will try it out.
Have fun!
Excellant tip, my greatest challenge. Been working on this quite awhile. Believe I have to many swing thoughts.
Good stuff! Too many people have too many of the wrong thoughts.
Glad you like the tips. I don't teach a loose grip. I teach loose wrists:
ua-cam.com/video/Z8K3Gctkz7A/v-deo.html
I would do this too:
ua-cam.com/video/7z5eUcSwlSk/v-deo.html
Again, start out slowly. Human nature is trying to protect your left knee and there is a mental block too. So you need to keep locking it until you get used to it. Then roll onto the tip of the back toe. This is the motor of your swing so you need to learn it.
@@paulwilsongolf thanks Paul. I will do as you say and get over this mental block.
Congrats on 100k!...your videos have been so helpful!

Great explanation Paul 👌
Glad it was helpful!
Great tip Paul!! Thanks
You bet!
Paul, you should do a video on how to prepare for a golf tournament!
That was a long time ago for me. This would vary from person to person.
I have been struggling with this, thanks for the tips. I can really use this
I was trying to lean the club at impact instead of naturally letting my arms come down and have a little body tilt
Great video. I’ll be using this next round
Have fun!
haha, never mind Paul. You literally addressed this 10 seconds after I asked the question. thanks
Figured so. I take about it more here too:
ua-cam.com/video/EDlwfq_ZBvE/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/BzBgiUhyrB4/v-deo.html
Great tip. A lot of people don't have grass on the drivingrange, they have mats. You don't want to hurt your wrist. What is the drill for that?
I have hit off mats many times over the years and never have a problem so it is really about learning the fundamentals so you make better contact which doesn't hurt the wrists. The big keys would be getting the weight off the back foot through impact so you are not hitting it fat. Then you need loose wrists so the shock of a mis hit is absorbed and doesn't radiate into your wrists and arms. Then I would be doing more practice swings working on positions then hitting ball after ball. This way you are building the swing. The better the swing the better the contact the less pain from hitting off mats.
Really great lesson 👍🙏
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for putting this up! I'll give it a whirl!
Have fun!
Outstanding viewpoint and tips. Am applying all aspects that I can and trying to rebuild my swing. Loose grip and jello arms but I often catch fat prior to storming the ball. Leaning over too far? Too tight still? Thank you for all your hard work and effort
Thanks. Fat shots: ua-cam.com/video/UwynwFBldv4/v-deo.html
Paul Wilson Golf and I have to sit here and giggle. Couldn’t be more simple and beautiful delivery and explanation. Thank you
Thanks for this video Paul, I thought it hit the ball well but never compressed the bell as well as I should playing off 3.5, I tried this yesterday and wow it felt effortless and was taking really good divots and hitting nearly every green and shot -1 🕺 I was hitting my 3w long but when I came to driver the feeling didn’t work and I could stop hitting a fade, not sure why, I felt exactly the same as my other clubs, still really happy with how it went m, thanks 🙏
Very good. The missing piece. Now stay focused and never tighten.
Paul Wilson Golf any advice on why I have developed a wicked fade doing exactly the same as my 3w and irons etc which are straight 👍
Paul Wilson Golf thank you for taking the time to reply Paul, I will do that, thank you
Makes darn good sense!
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Best explanation ever!
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing tip
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
thank you sir for enlightening me
Always welcome
Hey Paul, like your vids 👍👍 so would you not teach the bowed wrist they are all going on about these days ?
Replied to you other question.
Are you tilted to the right on irons the way with driver. Thanks for the tips. Liked and subscribed
Yes, even more with driver. The harder you fire your lower body the more you tilt.
@@paulwilsongolf Thanks Paul really like your mannerisms and nice approach to us people trying to learn. Keep up the great work. Your a legend.
Awesome video,Enjoyed very much. I would really like to play better than I do
Glad you enjoyed.
I have a wood swing thats all i use to do growing up go hit the driver see how far i could hit it...i have struggled with irons...but driver 3 wood hybrids is long perfect shots but doing this swing it is a lot better now i just fighting golf elbow right now i going to put graphite in my irons i seen a guy said i need that it will help with golfers elbow
an my wrist been very sore i been strecthing them off the bone get them looser i was very tight..it has helped i looked it up on youtub how to get the wrist loose..an got me some new grips coming midsize to help me hold club better i have copper tunel in both hands.i got me hand exciser to help strength also to help hold club since i been training your swing now
Glad you stopped doing that and are trying my stuff. Keep at it.
Gonna give this a try 👍
Very good.
Maybe 2" would be max unless you are 85 years old
@@paulwilsongolf Thanks Paul. Good to hear you're working on stuff too :-)
Paul, love you tips but I can only hit the ball solid and straight with an extremely weak grip. Left hand on the side of club and right hand on top almost more around on the left side of club. Extremely awkward and I know it’s wrong but my shots are so much better this way than In a neutral or strong grip. Any idea why that would be?
No idea. You have probably just done it so long. If you are hitting it great then keep doing it.
I consistently make solid contact with the short irons but my game totally falls apart with mid range irons (6 and 7). I hit all duffs and shanks. Do you have a video related to my problem?
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/gJOq_LO6oRg/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/m9kj0548rYw/v-deo.html
Stay tuned.
@@paulwilsongolf thanks so much for your help Paul! I'm spreading the word about your channel, sooooo many great tips!!!
Will this work using a hitting mat as well?
For sure. The better the player the less we care about mats. So stay focused on the fundamentals I describe in the tips.
Paul thanks am getting the divot, however at times am hitting way behind the ball? Is it the ball positioning?
You're new around here huh? I just posted this 2 days ago: ua-cam.com/video/UwynwFBldv4/v-deo.html

When you say looser looser your swing what does it mean.
Could not get it.

So you can't tell that you are whacking at the ball as hard as you can with just your arms. For me, I feel nothing in my arms. I feel my legs and hips powering the swing. ***START HERE***

Is it good to waggle the driver in a routine to get loose or feel loose before you hit driver what i do?
Yes, I actually have a video coming out about that soon.
Great lesson Paul, I love your enthusiasm! You should have been an evangelist.
Thanks. A golf evangelist.
Exactly. And they keep telling everyone to do this. It never works. Loose is the way to go.
Very good. Anything under par anywhere is good. You are getting it. Great feeling.
Do you teach single plane swing?
No. I like the lead arm slightly above the shoulders at the top. The best players of all time did a 2 plane swing.
How do you relax your arms and keep your left arm straight? 😕
Like this: Body Swing Concept: ua-cam.com/video/E8y9jEyY35k/v-deo.html
Plus, you want your left arm extended not locked. If you are locking or forcing it you will be too tight.
YES!
Glad you liked it.
Soooo true......
Yes.
I am getting more distance with my driver but my irons are not going very far. Why is that. I am like 140 -145 with 7 iron. I would like 15 more yards

I think chicken wing is going to be my nickname! I know I had to be doing this today.
You need to get to work on this asap. This will make a huge difference.
i got me holder for my phone i was going to film my shots but the driving range at club was closed today for up keep i going to load the app on my phone i played today i hit ball good an wasnt hurting i think im through the pain now...i want you to look at my swing help me work on my swing club championship is sept 5 i want to win i got a 15 handicap but doing your swing im playing a lot better than that already
Thanks!
Compressing the ball and forward shaft lean occur though the right fundamentals NOT by purposely hitting down on the ball. ua-cam.com/video/RM4OX3m2-90/v-deo.html
Roll the wrists is a huge piece of this.
Tiger heel is not of the ground at inpact with irons
It wasn't years ago. Maybe he did this as he changed his swing. I guarantee the weight on not more on this foot. I would think he is on the inner edge. Plus, he is a pro. You are not.
Paul Wilson Golf Thanks for the aggresiv answer
Can you compress without taking a divot?
Sure can. Worked great for Tom Watson. Watch: ua-cam.com/video/_ji_zykZlY8/v-deo.html
I played today, I felt like I hit the ball better I don't think I scored any better but maybe that's because I was doing something new
Very good.
I’m hitting my irons so much better as long as I keep my eye on the ball.
Yes, you need to hit it then look for it.
I understand you have to let your arms to relax, but that is the hardest thing to do.
@@paulwilsongolf Thanks Paul

in some tips I hit them in others I don't.
Your lessons are great but I think you could get more views with shortening the length and being less repetitive but keep it up Paul!
