Welcome back. We've missed you. Let's kick some Time Eater.
I personally really liked unleashed. The werehog is goofy but it hit me at just the right time as a kid were I thought it was cool.

I think unleashed is still my favorite sonic game even though I've only played the PS2 version

Unleashed is my favorite sonic game and even though i was younger i still hits me hard and the werehog section was actually my favorite part of the game.
Unleashed is my favorite sonic game.
We can all agree that the 3Ds port gave us one of the greatest remixes of Big Arms. Give it a listen, it's awesome.
Fun fact: There are grapes in Sky Sanctuary because it's Knuckles' favorite fruit as listed in the SK&3 manual.
knuckles just like me fr
Small little detail in city escape but there are posters of ray and mighty saying"MISSING SINCE 1993,can you find us?"and also a wanted poster of fang.
1. The drop dash was an idea SEGA and Sonic Team had since S3&K, but no game had implemented it until Mania, five and a half years after Generations.
2. The enemies in Sky Sanctuary are called "Egg Robo". The Hard-Boiled Heavies are specifically the Egg Robos in Mania that were present for the excavation of the Phamtom Ruby, which were then altered by it.
3. The day stages in Unleashed are spectacular, and the night stages are okay. Give it a try if you want.

28:35 I know you're used to frontiers controls, but this game controls fantastically, it's just a bit different.
Exactly
As someone who found generation's the best modern game up until frontiers... sonic controls like ass, he turns like a tank. Colours was slightly better and unleashed was worse (especially with the unleashed drift) but sonic has insane tanky controls and makes it near impossible to platform.
And I love this game

As a kid I played this as my introduction to the sonic franchise and I regret nothing my favorite part was city escape with the music
Unleashed day stages are so fun but difficult. Getting S ranks is so satisfying.
my first unleashed S rank was on a night stage, one of the Windmill Isle night stages that was basically a combat gauntlet
I actually got Sonic Unleashed (Xbox version) for Christmas. Some notes:
1. Rooftop Run is in Italy. The game's plot is indeed a globe trotting adventure.
2. Each continent requires you to find 2 halves of a "Boss key." One is hidden a day and night zone.
3. Scattered throughout the game are Sun and Moon medals. They're not really that hard to find, but you a certain amout of both to unlock all the levels.
4. You can earn exp and level up. Pump it all into Werehog.
5. Speaking of Werehog, I liked it. Felt like classic God of War. The platform wasn't hard, only kinda slow. It's fun unlocking and using new moves though.
6. Eggmanland is only hard first time through. You'll get better again and again.
7. Not every enemy encounter is mandatory. Use that to save time.
8. The Boost and Homing attack are the same button. I've lost so many lives to that.
9. Chip is best bro.
10. Endless Possibilities slaps. It's made by the same band that made the Phineas and Ferb theme.
Overall, it took a bit of time, but I absolutely enjoyed Sonic Unleashed. Can't wait to finally see you get to play it, Choc!

My defense for colors is that I played it when I was a child for the first time. Now it will forever hold a place in my heart
I’ll be completely honest, it was very stupid of him to make an opinion of a game, of an entirely different game, and it’s not like he had the memories to base the opinion off of, he played the game around 2 years ago, and the fact that he called the wisps entirely bad even though the wisps in sonic colors were way better than the one’s in generations, at that point he might as well have said “Metroid dreads parry attack was a stupid idea, because the game that came before it was bad which means that the gimmick in this game is bad” he’s a good, and funny guy, but sometimes he can be just straight up idiotic
@@Someguy6851 i think his opinion was more that that he didn't like them in colors, and he didn't like them in generations, making the wisps bad gimmicks in each game they're in

Recommend checking out the 3DS version if you can find it cheap. All the levels, green hill excluded, and boss fights apart from metal sonic, shadow and silver are different (and obviously the time eater as well). It’s great, the homing attack for modern sonic is a lot better as well.

your videos are good. sometimes i put them on in the background and go to sleep. not because they are boring, but are good background noise and tbh they're a good watch. you're welcome for the watch time.
I feel like people get too wrapped up in what this game is based on rather than what it is.
This game has the some of best sonic controls, levels and level design in sonic history, and it shouldn't be overlooked just because of the level themes.
Additionally, using old themes was a new idea at the time. Especially because those themes were never seen in HD 3D or played from sidescrolling perspective, so they felt different.
Unleashed had better boost sonic controls, better boost sonic level design, any classic title beats classic sonics gameplay, and anything they replicate (Sonic V Shadow, Chaos, City Escape) is just better in its OG form
@@insertname7397 WHOAH. You did not just say Sonic and shadow was done better in adventure 2. And that chaos was done better in adventure. Mash the homing attack to win huh? Seems real engaging. Pushing forward? What is the ENTIRETY of the Shadow fight in gens? You just "race" him to hit stupid purple meteors? Awful and unimaginative, at least SA2's excuse is how it's dated and an older game. No skill were required in either for gens and it's the opposite of fun to do the shadow fight

I was born in 2007 and I played this on my grandparents 360 throughout my childhood and loved it
This will probably always be my favorite sonic game even though they've started to become better with frontiers
The reason you're having so much trouble with the boost controls is because unlike frontiers, the boost gameplay in this game is specifically designed to have you boosting at all times, with the challenge being maintaining that boost without hitting obstacles. Watch a glitchless speedrun to see what I mean. Unleashed has this same kind of gameplay except its levels are much more linear so the weird turning isn't really much of an issue most of the time, it mainly just comes down to quick reactions.
Yeah it frustrates me to see him *not* boosting

Hate it. Always did since it was released, it made me quit Sonic. It's a pathetic, lazy compilation of Hedgehog Engine assets on an Unleashed beta with worse graphics and controls. And Classic Sonic is pitiful, a complete chore to play. Without mods, it's absolutely worthless.
The modding community is pretty much dead. The base game is UNREPLAYABLE because it's barebone. It's just a watered down Unleashed.
Honestly, I'd love to see you tackle something a bit more out there than Lost World or Boom.
The Storybook Series (Sonic & The Black Knight, Sonic & The Secret Rings) was a favorite of mine as a kid, since the Wii was the first console my parents got me, and they were Wii exclusive. (My Mom said she couldn't NOT get a Wii, it was the only thing on my list for Christmas that year. To this day, she still says it was the hardest thing she's ever gotten her hands on, even with working at an Electronic Store at the time & all the connections that brings).
I don't really know how the fandom at large feels about them, but I liked that they did something a little different with Sonic. Taking him into different Classic Literature settings ('King Arthur,' 'The Arabian Nights') was a cool concept I wish got expanded on more, especially given since most of it was Public Domain, there's a LOT of cool things to pull from.
The fandom thinks more highly of Black Knight than Secret Rings these days, but both games have a pretty good soundtrack and strong characterization of Sonic the Hedgehog.
@@Orange_Swirl I wish. people like choch still regard the era as the dark age of sonic despite the story book/unleashed/06 having better story and characterization than 80% of sonic games, (looking at you STH, forces, colors and boom.) The main issue that made people react negatively to them is that their gameplay is rough, but even while 06 is unplayable sometimes, SATBK isn't that bad gameplay wise, though secret rings doesnt quite reach the same height in that regard imo.
All of the games from that era have legendary soundtracks though.

I think the unleashed version of rooftop run is better than in generations
Also if you collect all the red rings in planet wisp act 1 you can homing attack with classic sonic if you equip it by going to the skill shop
Nope, Rooftop run on Generations is way better
@@thefastcommenter7774 that is my opinion and you cant change it
@@elenajovanoska1806 Atleast respect my opinion
@@thefastcommenter7774 I do respect it who said I didn't I just said that you cant change my opinion
That three fiddy joke at 24:49 was gold
31:12 yeah, I got it for Christmas when I was 8 with my xbox 360 along side minecraft. this game made me a pretty big fan of the series and I now own every genesis game along with 2 genesis consoles including the x-eye and model 2
This was actually my first sonic game I played, I was already a sonic fan but I could only watch playthroughs online so I got generations so I could experience a little a bit of everything
Unleashed has some really fun day stages but they're definitely a lot tougher than generations or colors
as far as i can tell though there's a lot less 2D segments than both games (still got a bunch but, yknow, in moderation)
The werehog of course is gonna be very dependent on the person and mindset going in, my best advice is to experiment with combos and to not go in expecting uh. fast paced gameplay
If you do play unleashed your best bet is to play it on xbox series x/s, but if you cant do that just dont get the ps3 version cause the framerate is absolutely abysmal, and the wii and ps2 versions are entirely different games
1 year later and sonic generations is finally getting a remaster and new content...And its actually gonna be on switch 😁
(I have been waiting for it to be on switch since the release)
This was my first real sonic game. Sure, I had Sonic 3 & knuckles on the Wii, but I never made it past the second zone, and I still play generations to this day
"Unleashed was a memory that no one will forget"
sonic generations was my first sonic game. i enjoyed it a lot and have since gotten a lot more into the series :)
It was my first Sonic game and I loved it.
Happy to see it in Autumn
I like how you tell the story of this game, before playing it!
