- Jazz reeds unlike Classical reeds have a thicker tip and thinner heart to allow the upper overtones to come through for more edge and projection. Let’s take a look at them in the Vandoren Saxophone Jazz Reed Buyers Guide.
Vandoren Java Green - The thinnest Jazz cut gives you flexibility with a bright sound and great projection.
Vandoren Java Red - Slightly thicker heart and a steeper slope from the heart to the rails. Gives you a little more stability, body and edge than the Java Green.
Vandoren ZZ - A combination of Java Green and the V16, the ZZ gives you a very responsive and colorful reed that’s not too bright or too dark.
Vandoren V16 - These are the thickest of the Vandoren Jazz cuts which give you a broad and much darker sound with more body to the attack.
From brightest to darkest, Vandoren Saxophone Jazz Reeds help you find your own sound.

I can literally hear the green being the brightest. All of them sounds good. The green one is my preference though
I like the fact that you have a variety pack at major music stores. I brought one and I was very pleased. I thought that the ZZ would work for me but my Theo Wanne Gaia 2 mouthpiece likes the Java green. I don’t even have to break them in.
Anonymous random Guy that’s a crazy mouthpiece
The problem with those packs is that reeds can vary significantly just from one reed of the same cut to another, so you really need to play on more than one reed of a type to get a real assessment.
my heart skipped a beat when he slowly announced that the v16 is recently available for bari, Like c'mon this video is from 2017 XD
This guy could play amazing also with a stone reed 😞
LOL
good playing in this demo!
Thank god for the variety pack XD
(great video btw)
Java Red 2.5 works perfect for my Vandoren Jumbo java A45 Mouthpiece

Vandoren java green 3 1/2 work great on my berg Larsen 120/3 mouthpiece

I play a 2.5 Rico reed on my tenor right now. Should I get a 2.5 or 3 in the jazz reeds?
Go for a 3 mate and see how she feels, size 3 java green is ideal I reckon
more gaming strength 3 give you a brighter sound in the high registers
i went straight to 3 a month after playing tenor and it made me sound so much better, i think. i played clarinet for a year and a half before hand though so i wasnt totally beginner
What about the traditional reeds
He spoke about the Jazz reeds
i hope u guys remake this vid. include the vandoren traditional and explain the reeds through words and play them one after the other in the end. also make sure the song being played through all the reeds is the same not random notes
Ey
For me the thickness of all the reeds was this:
1. Red (most soft, was way too buzzy, bright, and squeaky)
2. Green (best, was perfect strength)
3. ZZ (a little resistant and squeaky)
4. V16 (hard to blow but a great, dark, tone)
I went with the 2.5 Java Greens. I disagree with your ratings only for the greens and the reds. I think the reds are the brightest sounding.
I agree the reds are very buzzy, air and softest to play
1:11
1:48
Thank you. I don't think I've had enough lick today.
Me gusta ZzJaz mun 1'5 tenor🎷
