Why SpaceX Bought a Robotic Dog
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2020
- Over the last couple of years, SpaceX have been rapidly building and testing their Starship prototypes. But in order to get the most out of each test, SpaceX had to buy and hire a robotic dog from Boston Dynamics. This video looks at how SpaceX are using their robotic dog and how similar robotic creatures could be used when we send the first humans to Mars.

Great video.
I don’t think they actually bought it. Sure a trade or sponsorship for marketing... SpaceX is followed by everyone across the globe because of Elon and the fact they’re having tons of success... but yes they’re gonna get way more. Once one is trained it can be shared. Just wait till neurolink and spot lmao
I don't know about Boston Dynamics specifically but I can definitely see SpaceX investing further into robotics and automation. There are so many jobs that don't require human skills to complete, or can be used in preparation for and complementary to humans. For instance, a robot that can pave a hardened surface for landing on the moon, or a self-driving vehicle than can move supplies to where they're needed.
Spot finds a huge dinosaur bone on Mars and is like: "Mine. All mine!" - and never tells the humans about it.
LOL
its controlled with cameras on it it would be pretty hard to get away with that. also what if they make a robot jail ;-;

Man........ even dogs can lose their jobs because of AI!
That's a common cartoon trope, dog being replaced by a robotic dog but in the end fails because "organic". Ironically in the novel the movie blade runner is based on robotic animals were cheap and organic were a luxury only the rich could afford.
would you rather have a real dog hanging around after a rocket ruptures?
@@dewydewback1376 yes, I feel no empathy for dogs unlike you guys!

This "dog" reminds me so much of that Black Mirror Episode "Metalhead" - it gives me chills.
I’m sure this episode was inspired by this robot and Boston Dynamics’ robots in general. People have been freaking out about their robots for years, the company even jokes about it.
I'm also thinking about it. It just needs a suitable weapon to become a perfect human killer. And no one would know if it's human controled, or run by AI.

I mean it wouldn't be much of a cloud if the nitrogen was evaporated, unless water droplets condensate from the extreme liquid temperatures, if not even sublimate to ice crystals
clouds are liquid droplets suspended in a gas.

sending Spot to Mars is a good ide. He has enough speed to walk on the surface faster than other rovers. Different attachments are also a big plus for it.

We need robots like 'TARS' .
Yup. We definitely need a TARS & CASE when we go to Mars!
Wow, that was the smoothest sponsor transition I'v ever seen.
Thanks for sharing this update about Space X robotics dogSpot. Done coloring your home. Shoutout! #MOVEONTV
I like the video. I like the sponsor. I do not like how both is mixed. Makes me feel like this is nothing but an ad. Basically using SpaceX’s name (and footage) to drive ad revenue.
I understand that the UA-cam ecosystem rewards such behavior. But I think you can do better and still make money. How about this:
“I love making these videos. These are the guys who are sponsoring this channel. This is why I believe the product is important.”
Keep up the good work!
Aren't we gonna talk about that incredible segue there?
When I heard where it was, and saw the ad for Kiwi Co, I thought they said Hokitika LOL
Good video, but you missed the whole point of SpaceX using Spot. This robot dog has a very sophisticated AI in it, and it can preform operations entirely independently given a guideline of what the task is... so no, humans don’t need to “operate” it necessarily, which resolves the issue of long latency transmissions. Do more research in this dog, it’s really fascinating. Adam Savage uploaded a very informative video on it that would be incredibly beneficial to watch.
Was the the 1984 "Airwolf" tv show tune playing in the background during the "Spot" clip?
Awesome 😎
Should have given the pup floppy ears, this is so incredible! This would be such a cool time to be alive, sending robots to build a base on Mars!
More than likely, the LIDAR is being used for failure analysis. Simply put, everything gets scanned and saved into a point cloud where cause/effect analysis can be done.
Is his name Spot Or Zeus? I'm kinda confused.
Spot is what boston dynamics calls it, Zeus is what spacex calls it
@@Supcharged Thanks
Dyson calls this series of robot "spot", kinda like ford calls their cars "mustang" or "Escape"
When spacex bought a spot robot, they named it Zeus, probably so they could differentiate it from other robotic dogs in the future, and because of the memes
NASA:"Rover"
SpaceX:"SPOT"
Oof that sponsor transition was smoooth
Wow, what's the range on the wireless control of that dog? Is it connecting to a cell tower or something?
Also gotta make sure that superfine Martin dust doesn't get stuck in all the components
Upvoted for the air wolf theme.
In his book Michio kaku writes 3 robots will be very essential in habitation on mars: minning, repairing and construction robots
2:02 Airwolf, how apt.
I wonder if one of their employees said "you're a feisty little one but I have need for you on the master sailor barge"
Nobody:
Boston Dynamics: Do you love me?
Same one from RED PLANET, that went "mustang" on the crew!
The cameras make it look like Spot has a cute hat
Its a dream come true!
3:00 it keeps things moving forward without any downtime.
I mean why not it's the most awesome mascot ever
That Airwolf soundtrack did it for me
In order to colonize and live on Mars or on the mon, we need a variety of robots to do different jobs in the interior and exterior environments where humans cannot do by themselves. So, we need to train more young engineers and scientists to specialize this field to help speed up the progress as space colonization becomes affordable and achievable.
Spot is a good purchase. It does a mean Moon Walk.
Sending Zeus to Mars would be so cool. If I was SpaceX I'd be working on Mars Spot now. Would be a great survey robot.
