    Good overall presentation and observations, with which I generally agree.
    However, here’s an additional point, which may be important. Jeff accurately states the outer garment should extend about an inch below that bottom of the holster. While an inch (or so) is probably fine when you’re standing straight upright with your arms at your sides, it probably won’t be when one or both arms are extending upward (for example, when accessing the top shelf in a grocery store or when putting your briefcase or purse on the top shelf in your neighbor’s coat closet). Therefore, I suggest the outer garment’s margin (below the holster’s bottom) be measured with the strong-side hand reaching upwards and outward (rather than at one’s side).
    The goal here is simply to prevent the anti-firearms and nervous soccer mommy from yelling, “help, he has a gun!!” when you’re reaching for the last box of Cheerios at the very back of the top shelf in a Safeway.

      Agreed. I tend towards a "tall" and one size larger than I am, in other words, a 2X tall shirt rather than an extra large regular. But I am tall anyway so it works out OK.

      this is a very good point. too many people focus on what looks hidden while standing comfortably. In reality the challenges of concealed carry come in while reaching up, bending or leaning over, or seated.

    Strongside at about the 3:30 position works for me. Being a bigger guy, I can carry anything from a SIG 365 to a 5" 1911 and not print overtly. Favorite holsters are from 1791 for OWB.

    I pocket carry in my right side/strong side, I’m 6’2” old,fat cranky, and recently had to practice my draw for real. Was seated behind the steering wheel,belted in,had my pistol in my hand before I thought about it,as I was identifying the threat. I believe the key was practice in the car. It felt silly at first but payed off with a possible violent encounter turned peaceful upon the thug seeing the pistol. Remember,your personal security is your responsibility! Practice peace but prepare for war!

    In my opinion, appendix carry is the best option for the majority of people. But, the look of it turns people off who haven't experienced it yet.

      I agree. When I first started carrying, I carried around 4 o'clock IWB and it worked well. It was comfortable, I was able to conceal it easy enough. I tried appendix but couldn't get it to work for me. I had trouble concealing and making it comfortable, so I had given up on it. That was until one day I decided to really try it and buy a dedicated holster for it, if it didn't work this time then I knew it just wasn't for me. Holster came and blew me away (T1C Axis Elite) and the gun disappeared. It was comfortable enough that I could spend the week or so getting used to it and now I barely even notice it. I carry a Shadow Systems MR920 Elite with a TLR-1 HL, a Sig p365XL, a Shield Plus and an M&P 2.0 9mm compact, and they all work so well I can't even imagine carrying any other way now. I tried carrying 4 o'clock IWB again a few times and it was uncomfortable, really surprised me when before it had been very comfortable.
      If I can make appendix carry work, anyone can. Get a dedicated appendix holster from a good company, use a wedge and a claw, it can be done. I was using a Vedder Light Tuck for 4 o'clock IWB, and I tried using the Vedder for appendix and as said above, couldn't get it to work. The difference between a dedicated appendix rig and the Vedder is night and day.

    I carry on my strong side with my pancake style OWB 95% and IWB 5% of the time. This works best for me after buying and trying other types of holsters. I agree the light material for the shirt make your firearm easier to print but the type of color can either make it more or less noticeable. Another great video Jeff. Thanks

    But where do you put your sharpe? That’s what I want to know, because the sharpie is the most deadly self defense weapon. That’s why I would throw my gun in the trash before I ever would my sharpie. Because, you know, I could poke somebody in the belly button with that and make them giggle. What exactly am I gonna do with a gun? They probably won’t laugh if I point a gun at them, so what’s the point… Not a sharpie point anyway.

    • @CalebSavant
      @CalebSavant 3 роки тому +2

      Ankle carry is a good option there, if you wear a sport coat or other attire shoulder carry is a valid option as well.

    • @Cautionary_Tale_Harris
      @Cautionary_Tale_Harris 3 роки тому

      @@CalebSavant The Ruger .380 I tried still made a pretty obvious imprint with the ankle holster. I even tried switching to cowboy boots although so far that's been a no go. I can look into the shoulder carry. We wear a jacket and tie every day but not all day.

    • @BT1776
      @BT1776 3 роки тому +1

      You can look at the various belly band and wear it under the dress shirt. I am not a fan of shoulder holster because it is not comfortable and when you draw, you have to hold the holster. I am also not a fan of ankle because you would have to choose a small firearm and wear a pant that is loose fitting on the leg. The drawback with ankle holster is you have to kneel down whereas a holster on the hip is more faster to draw. I would most likely wear a sports jacket and leave it on the hip. If you know anyone with these type of holsters, see if you can try them out and draw (unloaded firearm of course) from each of these holsters and positions to get the feel. For me, I like the holster on the hip OWB and IWB which is more secure and faster to draw. Good luck in choosing which works for you.

    • @Cautionary_Tale_Harris
      @Cautionary_Tale_Harris 3 роки тому

      @@BT1776 I have a belly band that is ok and might be an option. I've considered having two shirt buttons replaced with magnets so I could more easily reach in. The belly band smooths out the profile of the gun fairly well as long as you're carrying something like that Ruger .380.
