Absolutely great episode! I've long fancied visiting Croatia, really like several Croatians I've come across, but this pretty much seals it! So much to see and do
Yh - if anyone had any lingering impression from the 90's about the balkans being a bit dingy or run-down Croatia apart from being utterly beautiful is clean, safe & extremely user-friendly, the level of English (and German and many other languages) that the locals manage is amazing & generally, its extremely well set up for visitors
I'm so far behind on your videos...but that does mean I get to have a bit of a Croatia binge! I think I hit a new record for saying wooow throughout this video.
Great video as always! It's really interesting to see Istra from a foreign perspective and the relatively limited access if you don't get around with a car. While the coastal cities are very beautiful, I don't think they capture the true spirit of Istra. At their core they are quintessentially Italian. You can really tell that before the second world war the italians consisted 95% of the population the coastal towns. The slavic settlements were always in the hinterland, we were relegated to outskirts (physically and politically etc.). Nowadays this complete change of the population is seen in the way the coastal cities become ghost towns in the off season. No tourists, not a boat in sight - we live by the sea and not with it, in a way. If you ever decide to visit again, I think towns like Pazin, Buzet, Motovun and natural gems like the canyon near Buzet, Sopot, the edge of the carst plateau, Učka park are real gems.
thks! Yes sadly Buzet & Roč were a couple of the places that ended up dropping off the list, because yh - no car We briefly saw Pazin on our first trip back in the autumn & yes, very different feel to the coast
I'm always blown away by how good you are at this. Great editing, smooth pace, fun anecdotes and comedy moments. This is great
thks man ☺

Yh the ratio of wow-factor to I'd-never-heard-of-this 🤔 in Pula is intense 🏛🏟🇭🇷

For best seaside views - Galebove stijene near Pula and the sandstone cliffs at Mesečev zaliv near Strunjan
