Is it possible for me to turn his silhouette all black for slicing? I'm struggling with this part. I'm trying to make an off the mat Mickey. If so how? In design space or illustrator?

where the black color of mickey is completely solid in the back ground. so then you just add the colors on top?

@Auntie Tay I'm a 3D Animator and Graphic Artist by trade, but am a crafter at heart. I just bought my first Cricut, and this was the first tutorial I've watched :). I appreciate you're detailed tutorials. I'm very familiar with Illustrator, and I feel like I want want to make some of my own designs, so this is helpful. I do have a question, can I make a template in Illustrator or draw and scan one, and upload it into the design space? I saw premade templates, but didn't see a way to add one. I make a LOT of Minnie Mouse ears, and I need my ear template to work with. Thank You :)

Love the tutorial, thanks for making it! I was wondering if there was a way to "close in" parts of a layer? For example on your Mickey, I want to be able to place the white dots on top of his black body instead of in cut out holes. How would I "color in" the hole?
How do you deal with shrinkage when not making the black the entire background layer with the vinyl?

Thank you for this tutorial! I have finagled with design space for as long as I've had my cricut to get the images like I want. It's time consuming and frustrating. A friend convinced me that I could make my own SVGs, so in my research, I found your video. I think it will be super helpful for me. I understood most of what went on and I haven't even downloaded Ai yet. :)

You can rent illustrator monthly for around $33.99 or so. It's software from adobe. If you were to buy it outright - It's pretty pricey $600+ for the disc. You can do what I have and buy an older version so the cost is way less. It's so useful for many things including logos, vector, illustrations and clipart. :)

I saw a video related to this on a old video of yours and I figured out how to this for layered paintings but a easier way to do it is by using photoshop and removing the pictures background then do the rest on illustrator 👍🏼

Question what if I have an image that has text/ or another object on top of it how do I keep it from cutting that area out of the main background image I've tried several different steps and can't get that part
Thank you so much for making this video. It is so helpful and it looks super easy but when I try tracing my image, it looks very blurry. It has highlights and shadows and nothing like the sharp image that you're showing after tracing. Do you know what I am doing wrong?

Here's an update.
So I have a colorful vector flowers with outlined texts with colored strokes. I can't seem to figure out how to use compound paths to separate the all the colors in the texts, so I can save as .svg then upload to design space and cut out using various color vinyl.

I like what your doing
Omg where do i start, a vector is not a “fancy” word, vectorisation is what makes you illustration scale up without compromising the quality, the vectors are dynamic objects that will morph and keep their smooth rendering.
The way you used the image trace feature is simply wrong : even though the end up result feels okay, but simply because the details were not zoomed in, but i could clearly see the distorted lines. Image trace is a very powerfull feature, but you have to tweak manually the path and corners ... and have the preview on and zooming in and out in order to get a good tracing.
Perhaps you could make a video?
