  • Rare video featuring Marianne and The Chieftains performing the song 'I Saw Three Ships A Sailing'. From the Chieftains 1991 CD 'Bells Of Dublin'.
With thanks to Mick & Trevor for helping find this obscure footage for me.

Who but Marianne could take one of those, "shopping mall muzak, endless, wanne scream, Christmas songs" and give it back it's meaningful character and who but The Chieftans could put the spritely back into Santa's elves! For those who still enjoy Christmas music, I heartily recommend this unique, joyous album with great guests like dear, Lady Faithfull and for the whipped cream on the hot chocolate, Elvis Costello at his absolute, irrelevant best. Good listen all year round- Namaste

"Sant-y Claus will come down the chimney when you're all tucked up in your beds and asleep!" Lovely rendition of this lovely Christmas song, brings back memories from singing it at school! Thanks for finding & posting this rare gem!

Thank you so much for this. There used to be another video for this, but it's been gone for more than a year. I'd almost given up hope of finding another one on here.

@crazedwitch2 The great and wonderous Paddy Moloney (the penny whistle guy!) the leader and driving force of the Chieftains!! This is one part of a wonderful documentary filmed for the making of their Bells of Dublin album! RCA must get off their duffs and release this on DVD!!! I've had the VHS tape for years and dearly love it!!

I hate Christmas music ... except for this album; it's pretty much the only thing I listen to for two weeks a year. Thanks so much for posting!

Lovely singer and song, but the ships referred to are camels, so the video is a bit wrong.
