I agree, Beyonce etc. may be nice people but I love the genuine and simplicity of this couple. My daughter, maybe she observed from me being a minimalist, also looks up to such types of people of color and I am so proud I didnt even have to say tell her.
Meanwhile in America it’s “we have 2 kids but we need a 6 bed, 8 bath house with a 4 car garage, a mud room, a Butler’s pantry, separate offices and a bonus room” yet 40% of Americans don’t have enough to meet a $400 emergency.
@nb Android yeah I know the feeling. I’m single and have a 2 bed 2 bath condo and it’s too much space for me. The second bedroom hasn’t been used in months. It just made more financial sense since in my area, a 1 bed 1 bath is now going for more than what I paid 6 years ago. Plus I’ve been lucky with some nice equity.
This was also important to my mom growing up. My dad would get home at 10pm from work and we would be there ready at the dinner table to eat as a family. ♥️

I’ve thrown away/sold/given away TONS of stuff, but find it hard to part ways with things like old family photos, things I’ve collected while traveling, and I looove jewelry. My jewelry needs a closet/dresser of it’s own. 😃
I have the same problems parting with family and thousand children photos..Most are saved on computer, but it's not the same as holding baby pictures in my hand and kissing it with love and memories.. Not to mention all the souvenirs collected as a world traveler.("Houston, we have a Problem")!!! LoL..
I have no idea why this video popped up on my feed but my Portuguese colleagues have been encouraging me to look in Portugal if I want to vacation and also retire so on time. This video is great, thanks for sharing. Absolutely beautiful home. The peace you experience in such a space is very evident.
Most Americans do. As a home health nurse I have been into many homes, and the I only times shoes were taken off was in Asian homes or when there was new carpet!
I am south asian and we never take off our shoes in home. Infact I kinda feel its desrespectful to take off my shoes at my or anyone home n ecxpect others to do so. You have rugs/doormats at outside house where you can wipe them. Plus, we all have specific slippers to wear at home which we dont wear outside and for outside shoes which we dont wear inside. Everyone sit in homes with comfortable house slippers so whats the point in not wearing them? I personally feel a lot of strain in my feet bones if im not wearing comfortable slippers n walking or sitting bare feet. I cant, even on carpet.
@@florad629 you are just a lier. I been to almost all South Asian countries. Its common practice to remove shoes before entering house in those countries.
Congrats! While I’m happy for your family I’m also glad that there are key players around me who are not retiring early like medical doctors, nurses, teachers, firefighters, even our local café owners and many more.

Your videos are so helpful and full of information! Some other vloggers have a 15 minute video and only 1 piece of information! Keep it up! More on Portugal please!
Awww, thank you so much! :) We're planning on doing a cost of living video for Portugal soon, so we decided to save the cost of rent for that video! :) Stay tuned! :)
@ SLR 05 - Mainly because it's still a foreign country for us so we don't speak the language yet, we're not yet familiar with the real estate market (as there appears to be a bubble), etc. Our plan is to buy once we become more familiar with the language and the real estate market. Great question! :) Also, just to be clear, buying a home doesn't necessarily make more sense than renting. It depends on the market and where people live. :)
@@OurRichJourney there is no bubble in my opinion. Most people talk of bubble because they are comparing with prices of 2010-2012 however they forget to mention, that was the bottom of very low prices due to IMF assistance and money not circulating. If I compared the SP500 with the BOTTTOM of March 2009 I could say, look the SP500 rose 500% it's a bubble. From 2001 to 2008 most prices were stagnant in Portugal and didn't go anywhere in real estate. Then from 2008 to 2012 prices still fell further 30-40% so of course now, It is just playing catch-up. Especially in a global economy, it didn't make sense for houses like the one you are currently living now in Lisbon, to be selling for UNDER construction cost! Yes that house, in 2010-2012 was being sold for under 200k most likely. Probably closer to 170k at the time. With the central bank keeping interest rates low and probably even negative, in a world where finding yield is hard, a lot of people and savers resorted to real estate. They rather buy than have the money parked in the bank doing nothing - that's the problem when central banks influence this much. I don't think there's a bubble but I don't think the growth will be anything similar to previous years because it's impossible. HOWEVER, buying still makes sense in a cash flow perspective. Mortgages in Portugal are cheap, where interest rates are around 0% with spreads of 1% meaning your mortgage would be at around 1 or 1.2%. Also, unlike the US that mortgages have a max term of 30 years, in Portugal it can go to 50 years AS LONG at the end of the term your age is less than 75 years old. Usually the max term for a mortgage you can get is 75-age ... in your case if you are 40, it means you can get a 35 year mortgage. This makes a big difference for example a 40-45 year mortgage you pay maybe 700 euros for a 400k house vs 1700 dollars for the same amount in the US (because 30 years makes the monthly payment go up quite a lot). You guys would probably save a lot of money on buying (I would say 1000$/month since you oculd get mortgages for cheap) and for a similar house in downtown. My mother just sold her house for 500k Euros right on the same neighborhood as you guys, however, hers is a 140 sq meters + 60 sq meters terrace.
You are so inspirational! I visited Portugal for the 1st time in January and felt at home. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your wonderful journey.

You guys are ultimate goals! I can see how much you guys love each other and reach goals together as a team! Your daughters are so blessed to have such amazing parents!! LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!
Congratulations. As someone just starting down the path its nice to see people who have made it to the other side. Sadly, I'm getting a very late start. Better later than never I guess..
Congratulations on getting started! Definitely better late than never and you have already begun so you are on your way!!! :)
As long as you are alive its not too late. Go for it.
@ Sandi K - Perfectly stated!!!
Right there with you! Keep it up!
You got this!!! Never too late!!!!
I love Lisbon. I try to get there twice a year. Looks like my annual trip to surf on the coast in October is in jeopardy. Love the video. Hope you and your family have the greatest experience
LoL..
You are an inspiration. This was so beautiful to watch!!!Thanks so much for sharing!!!❤️❤️❤️
I have no idea why this video popped up on my feed but my Portuguese colleagues have been encouraging me to look in Portugal if I want to vacation and also retire so on time. This video is great, thanks for sharing. Absolutely beautiful home. The peace you experience in such a space is very evident.
Thank you so much! So glad the video found you :-)
This is amazing! Love the minimalistic approach and cleanliness of your home. Congratulations on retiring early!
Why would anyone ever wear shoes in the house? Doesn't it cross people's minds that they're dirty?
It seems so dirty when you think about it! BUT, I think it's pretty common for Americans to wear shoes in the house! :)
@@florad629 you change them into slippers that you only use in the house, don't you?
@@florad629 you are just a lier. I been to almost all South Asian countries. Its common practice to remove shoes before entering house in those countries.
Congrats! While I’m happy for your family I’m also glad that there are key players around me who are not retiring early like medical doctors, nurses, teachers, firefighters, even our local café owners and many more.
Thanks! We don't fit into any of those key players (also, I'm guessing, we're not around you!). :) Thanks for watching! :)
Honestly I love the way you guys are raising and providing for your kids. They are very lucky to have parents like you guys. ❤️🌷
You guys are a true inspiration! Not just wealth with money, but with quality of life, and laughter. Thank you for sharing!
I love this video. It really exhibits the season that you’re in. The calming music, the relaxed conversation and that fact that you’re not in a stuffy cubicle questioning your life decisions. #uglycry Congrats you guys!
Haha! You are too funny! So glad you like the music. Also, I am literally laughing out loud from your hashtag!
This is dope on so many levels...this really makes my heart smile....this is an amazing journey...thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you so much for your absolutely amazing comments. Your words inspires us. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Congratulations for this wonderful move! would be great to see a video about costs when moving to Lisbon and cost living, like how much do you spend on rent, health insurance, school, food, etc. This is very inspiring! Thanks! Wish you the best!
You must have read our minds - this is exactly what we're planning! :) We'll have a cost of living video coming up soon! :)
You are a testament to what you can do if you work hard and plan love the videos thanks for sharing
Ahhhh...Thank you so much!
You are my heroes. Wish I was as organised as you are at that age. Great that you seem to be a good team with the same focus and values.
You guys are such a cute family. I'm interested in hearing how the girls are adapting to their new school and how y'all are coming along with your Portuguese.
We're all studying Portuguese and it's coming along. The girls are picking up quicker than us because of school, but we're determined to become fluent! :)
@@OurRichJourney
Sorry newbie here. What's the cost of living in Portugal?
@ Now Hear This - Perfect timing that you're a newbie! We're going to be doing a cost of living video soon! :)
This couple are the Americans I love. Sophisticated curious, disciplined, great general knowledge also it doesn’t work against them that they are an extremely good looking family. Come visit New Zealand anytime 😊
You guys are my heroes! I love everything you’ve done, the amazing life you live and your beautiful family. Thank you for inspiring us to reach FIRE with peace & joy! 💕🙏🏽
You are so incredibly kind! Enjoy your FIRE journey (and thanks for joining us on ours!). :) Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe! :)
absolutely lovee your apartment! everything feels so light and airy and i completely agree that having less clutter helps promote a clearer mind too
Your videos are so helpful and full of information! Some other vloggers have a 15 minute video and only 1 piece of information! Keep it up! More on Portugal please!
Hi guys 😊! Welcome to Portugal! Enjoy your new life 😀
Thank you! We are very much loving it here! :)
This home is gorgeous!!!!! I’m dying to know how much the rent is! I wish I could live like this. Love it!!!
Awww, thank you so much! :) We're planning on doing a cost of living video for Portugal soon, so we decided to save the cost of rent for that video! :) Stay tuned! :)
@ Ndidi Uchenwoke - It's coming soon! Please be sure to check it out when we post it!
Thanks so much Desiree! I feel like all it takes is one visit to Portugal to fall in love with it!!! :)
@@OurRichJourney It happened to me and my daughter, too. One visit and we were hooked and in love.
Portugal has a way of doing that! :)
I love it!!! I have plans on retiring at 55 and that's impressive
Such a wise couple. Your children are extremely lucky to have you two as their parents.
So sweet! Thank you Alexandra!
I've just seen them at the Monte Abraão train station. It's inspiring to see people making it on what I wish I would do.
You saw us???!!! Why didn't you say hi?! :) Come up to us next time so we can chat! :)
That is so awesome guys! You are providing a great experience for your kids!
Thank you so much! We love that our kids are getting this experience that we get to share with them! :)
You all are just incredible! Your demeanor even seems so relaxed and calm. This is truly a dream come true. I wish to live this reality of FIRE! Blessings guys!🥰🖤
@KhaliahAli - Thank you so much! We definitely feel more relaxed without the pressures of work! :) And it WILL become your reality, too! :)
I just found you guys accidentally a few days ago, you are amazing.. we are 45years old now, still struggling with pay check by pay check and nowhere close to our goal. You inspire us to this road of FIRE though it's would not be that early as we wish. Thank you so very much. No thing better than seeing a happy family all together this way. Your kids sure inspire us and our kids also. Be bless and enjoy life there. With your videos, we plan to visit Portugal one day for sure in near future.
Wow. This is great. I am embarking on the journey you just completed. I am putting $2000/month (snowball method) towards my credit cards, car, student loans and mortgage. My husband and I are considering selling our home for something we can afford out-of-pocket in six -seven years. Thank you for showing me that this is possible!
Wow Brittany! Congratulations! You are making great moves - applying the snowball method to your debt, a possible downsize, and you and your husband are on the same page! :) So excited for your journey!!!
I’m genuinely sooo soo happy for you guys!!! Thank you for all the inspiration! ❤️✨
Thank you so much! You are very kind!
It’s a beautiful apartment! Everything you need. Looks like Saldana or Pombal. All the best to all of you. Lisboa is my favourite city. I’m moving north, along the coast, less than an hour into Lisboa and for me it’s the best of both worlds... and my daughter is grown so I don’t need to worry about getting her to an International school.
Enjoy!!
Best of both worlds is ideal! :) We love the coast, too! :)
Congrats and I’m so happy for the two of you. Your family looks beautiful
So great your children don't have too much stuff. No distraction. Great job👍
Totally agree! :) Thank you so much! :)
I have no idea how I found this video, but I loved it! The apartment, the family, just everything. So beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
I’m so looking forward to having a beautiful family like this 😍 you’s are so inspirational
Loooooove it! You and you’re family are so blessed to know what is important in life 😊
Really enjoying your channel. I'm retired in my 50s, into investing, minimalism and expat living. So it's a very nice fit. Thanks!
Love the minimalism. Simplicity. Order and space. Very little waste. Bright rooms!
What a lovely home and beautiful family. Thank you so much. Love all the light and greenery beyond the windows.
I really like the style of your home, it is inspiring.
AHHHH, YOU MADE IT!!!!! YOU CROSSES THE FINISH LINE! Wow, it feels so good having a glimpse of life on the other side and to know that it indeed continues. Wish you all had your own reality show. I'd like to see the systems that you have in place to run your home and your live's. My wife think's you use the Mary Kondo system for organization and what not. I am tempted to go through your channel and download every single video and learn from each one so I can attain my F.I.R.E. goals earlier. I know you don't need the cash, though have you ever considered holding workshops where you teach people how to do what you did? Anywho, I will, we will be there soon as well. Thank you for the beautiful glimpse into your home. Your youngest daughter, her wardrobe is kinda like mine, I was like "Booyah! *Airfive". I'm only on stage one of the F.I.R.E. plan though I'm on my way! Hope to be able to actually speak with you all soon. Cheers and keep up the great work!!!
Wow! Congratulations on starting your FIRE journey! If you are tempted to go through all of our videos and watch - follow that temptation and do it! Hehe! But seriously, it's so exciting that you and your wife are on the FIRE journey. By investing now, your money will have more time to grow with compound interest!
I’m so proud of you guys! Living the dream💖
Awww, thank you so much! We are definitely living the dream! :)
So proud of you all. Congratulation on all your hard work! We're beginning our Own Rich journey now.
Thank you!
