Great video, Casey!! Thanks for helping publicizing the 4th Annual Shinoda Reunion ... but even more, thanks for your plans to participate!!! Looking forward to more videos! (P.S. -- I think you are correct about the operation of the Detroit Slider. It has to shorten on Accel and lengthen during Braking.)
I was there as a 12 year old, at The Groove Raceway, in Royal Oak, MI, a few blocks from the Woodward Ave. street racing venue. We wound our own motors. We put the silicone on our own tires. We soldered our chassis from brass sheet and piano wire. The Shinoda wedge was (psychedelic) revolutionary.
When i was young we raced at this killer track in Dearborn on Chase road about 55 years ago and this place on Joy road in Détroit that was so much fun and competive you guys rock keep it up i race with my grandsons now with 1/32 scale it's fun but not like the 1/24 scale cars great video i got to find some races to watch now! I live in Virgina Beach Virginia now don't think there are any hobby shops around here might build me a track!
Just found a slot car track in my town and my buddy and i are going tomorrow. Shout out to fast track hobbies in rocklin ca. Thank you thumbs up stay awesome.
Ahhh.....the 60s.....my childhood 😁. Scratch building cars, professional slotcar teams, Car Model magazine. In the late 60s/early 70s I participated in HOMIR.....HO mail in racing!. You got a special mailing box for your car and you sent it in with 50c which covered the entry fee and return postage. They would race your car in either a scale 1/4 mile or flying mile (they alternated every month) against kids from all over the USA and send back the car with the printed results. The cars were classified and the top 3 of each class received a ribbon in the proper color. I still have a printout and the ribbon I won.
Glad I stumbled across this. It's been over 50 years since I raced (at the Groove Raceway and Tom Thumb). I was 16 when the tracks closed in Lansing and I moved to nowhere Wisconsin where there were more deer than people. I had not finger prints because I used to pick up parts that were still hot from soldering and I had solder craters on the backs of my hands from splattering solder. Yes, i was clumsy and stupid. My cars are long gone but I still have my Hoffman box minus the drawers than someone stole from me. Fun stuff. Glad to see a new generation of people enjoying the hobby. Good luck to you. Do not get spray glue in your eyes. Ha ha.
Its cool to see that slot car racing is even still a thing. I have been wanting to get into it since I was a kid but haven't had the means to get into the hobby full time. Now being 26 I have been getting interested in the hobby again. I have been super interested in Shinoda style cars.
Sadly I do not. I live in Dallas Texas. Ive been since looking for slot car groups out here. When I was growing up in California there was an old hobby shop that had a slot car track that initially got me interested in the hobby when I was into rubber band powered airplanes and model car sets as a kid. It almost seems like slot car racing kind of faded out on this side of the state. I thought about trying to design my own slot car body and making my own track to potentially experiment with aerodynamics.
i grew up in Daytona Beach in the 1960's and was extremely active in slot car racing . the best race track there was one of the tom thumb tracks . it was a very active area with lots of tourist visitors . the best motor at that time was a Globe engine , 15,ooo rpm and Atlanta
If I ever make it up to Michigan, I'm stopping by this place, no doubt! Thanks for the stories. I'm GenX, but my dad used to tell me stories about running slots in the 60s. I've got a small collection (ok not so small) with nowhere to run them. 🤷♂️ Wish I had one of these places close.
1st.... honestly... was just watching the 3rd left lane losers video and saw the notification for this video... so I had to jump out and say Hi! And nail down my 1st place spot... Now back to find out why that red Solara wont get the Hell outta the Left lane!
Man I just rediscovered slot car racing and I'm Interested in 1/24 scale cars. And I reside in Detroit so I need to make my way to this shop to check it out.
@@CaseyPutsch I like that plan I actually was doing a quick search on Google and found a slot car track about 20 minutes from me here in Denver I didn't even know it was there I think I'll be down there this weekend with my six-year-old
Nice Jim Hall autographed cap! By any chance were you at the Chaparral Museum grand opening? I was part of the group that brought the Scalectric slot car track to the event. I love the interaction between you two talking slot cars. Looking forward to the next video in the series.
Hey Eliot! Hoping that this event is off the charts; well attended and fun. I hope you don't mind if I cover it in Slotblog and Slot Car News? Also do you have a good e-mail for Casey? I tried to send him some infos but I don't think he got the e-mail... :(
I have a 1964--65 1/24 slot car from Huntsville, Ala, where NASA was designing the Saturn 5 rocket that went to the moon in 1969. The town was full of designers and engineers. I bought my first car from a Japanese engineer. It had a brass birdcage chassis. It was trick but heavy. I built a super light, sidewinder car with a Corvair, fastback, show--car body. Was thar a Shinobu design ? It. was the Monza GT. I was cheating.. my power brake battery pack was taped uo to hide that there was a small brake battery and a big battery rewired into my lane. Everyone had their speed secrets. I had more valtage In my lane. I out ran the track owner's black Cheetah with a rewind Mabuchi ?.. That was what everyone ran, just about. He snatched up my Monza GT and saw that my motor was stock ! That's the kind of stuff I like, ha ha...
I'm lucky enough to live around the corner , Wednesday Retro & Friday NASCAR are the fast guys , Sunday is more laid back with parents , children and laid back racers. Come on down :) www.downriverspeedway.com/index.html
Good morning everyone! Thanks for giving this video a watch, I’m super excited about being part of this awesome Detroit automotive history!
Another great edition! Greatly looking forward to watching this in the future!
I can potentially do that. Hit me up in January.
Like the slot cars. I raced them in the 90s. I'd love to see more.
Love all the slot car videos! Please keep them coming. Can't wait to see the video from November 30th.

Welcome to Downriver, Casey. Did you get to see the World's Largest Tire on I-94 in Allen Park?
I learned more about slot cars from watching this video than I have in my entire life. Thank you

My first slot car was a Russkit, BRM formula car. came in a box, carrying case. My Lola GT in the period would pop wheelies due to the torque.
I might have to come visit from Dayton!

Wow I had forgotten about slot car racing I wonder what it would take to bring it back to kids today or if that's even possible
Step one: take them racing and spend quality time with them. Step two: take it serious, but not yourself. Step three: HAVE FUN! There..... done deal.

I wish we had stuff like this over here in germany. All I have here is my old slotcar track from the 80s that needs some work done.
Probably it exists just need to dig on the forums.
I had to Google it, but Ted Lech's partner in Dyna-Rewind was a guy named Bud Stordahl.
Hey Brother- hope you are going to this event. Remember the great times at Thingie Fest 2007 and Thingie Fest II 2008? Hope to see you again soon!
Good morning casey!
That place is about 10 minutes north of me . cool place...
Casey will you get a chance to go visit your friend in Detroit to race 124 scale slot cars ?
Hey Elliot!
