I used Boeshield years ago on my 6.2 Mercruiser I/O and my mechanic hated it and threatened to not work on it if I continued using it! It works but it's extremely messy and not worth the effort, especially if you need to get it off! On a better note, I splashed my new 255 FSH Sport H today and soaked the engines with Yamishield before we went out. Thanks Will for the tips! I've been boating for 30 years but I'm brand new to Jet Boating. Been binging on your content the past few weeks and ordered new bow rollers, a Magna grill mount and marine mat kit from you!
@JetBoatPilot Question: I just bought a Seadoo Switch (kinda your fault 😂) and I am wondering if I should not only do this to my engine bay, but what about the podium/helm where there is a quick access panel in the front to reach the electronics/fuses? Thanks for your videos and awesome products!
It's rare that water gets in back there so not a big of a deal, however if you get a spray protectant that is made to spray on electronics (make sure it's specified on the can) it can't hurt. We don't do it.
@@LVCMS just about to unwrap it for its second season. It’s a great boat; although, I’ll say they’re missing a lot of opportunity with mods made for this boat.
Hey buddy my wife and I love all your videos they are so helpful and so spot on! Thanks to you we purchased our first 2024 Yamaha 222 SE here in Long Beach Ca. We are getting ready for our first salt water trip to Catalina after our first great trip to lake Havasu. . . I just wanted to ask after a salt water trip like that other than a good flushing do you ever rinse out or off the engine itself with fresh water? Or is that not necessary with this spray? Thank you!
@SimplyMeSkinCareMedSpa not really necessary with this spray but won't hurt if you do a light rinse ( no pressure washer). Thank you for the kind words! Enjoy your new toy!
Great video but Fluid Film is going to be the best. It will last all season long and other than the smell, best stuff. Not as pretty as these silicone type sprays and won't spray it on something Im about to sell, but for a boat you are going to use, best stuff and actually watercraft superstore magazine did a very comprehesive test on these type products to back up the statement
We've used a product called Boeshield before and while tough and long lasting it left a film that I did not like. Sounds like this one is similar. Too much downside for me. I'd prefer to re-apply every quarter than have it look milky like the Boeshield looked.
Maybe once every 6 months. I guess it depends on how often you rinse the engines off with fresh water. If the engines never get salt water on them maybe once per year would be good.
Yes any watercraft can benefit from lubricants like corrosion x. There are also other brands out there that do equally as well. We like Yamashield and SeaDoo XPS lube too. I don't care for Boeshield much. Its super thick and looks bad when sprayed on metals.
Hey Will, great advise for sure on salt water. Just bought a new 2024 222XE that will only be used in fresh water lake. Dealer says no need to spray film. What are your thoughts?
@jonathanspier6631 can't hurt, but not as critical on fresh water. Perception of future buyer when you sell the boat is better when the engine room looks shiny and cared for so resale value is likely to be higher.
I FINALLY did it! Bought my first boat, 2014 limited S. It has 245 freshwater lake hrs. I will be using it in fresh and brackish water. Is this still worthwhile doing?thx
Shoot....My 2022 AR195 has 50hrs on it. I keep it in a dry warehouse storage in Pineland Marina. We boat out in the Gulf. Is it okay to apply now (not brand new) or will it trap salt in?
Do you use this for outboards. We just bought a boat with twin 150 outboards in fresh water. They have 120 hours, but I want them to last a while. Any suggestions?
Awesome video as always..Hoping to keep a Yamaha 255 FSH at a slip in the summer months. Have not received boat yet though. It will be used in saltwater in Rhode Island. Is this going to be problematic? I’d rather not have to launch every time I go out but I want to be sure the boat is properly maintained. Any feedback?
If salt water you'll want a boat lift or boat barn to store the boat. Salt water cannot be purged from the engines if sitting in the water so you can't leave in salt water more than about 3 days.
@@joelong9964 Yes for sure. We just recommend for brand new users to do it day one so that they get ahead of any possible corrosion issues down the road.
I can't find any information on the effects YamaShield or similar products may have on the marine environment. At least some of it will end up in the water. Any thoughts?
I agree with JBP's reply. Great stuff but does leave a bit of residue. And its Boeshield (not Bioshield) designed by Boeing as an aerospace rust inhibitor and lubricant. I use it all over my boat and never had a problem.
Hey Will, I wish I had seen this 3 days ago, before we launched our boat. Is it too late after it's been exposed to the salt air and water? Will I be coming in any salt and moisture that is there now?
It's never too late. You can add it now but make sure you rinse off any salt water or dried salt crystals before applying spray Lube. If there's never been any salt water in the compartment and its fully dry go ahead and spray right away.
Hello. I am a new subscriber to your channel and a new Jetski owner. I have a question: after spraying this or a comparable product, do u wipe off the excess with a rag of some sort or leave it there to soak in? Thanks in advance for answering my question.
Just when I thought I was done for a little bit of buying things for the boat lol learn something new everyday and I appreciate the tip an video.

CRC 6-56 has kept my motors looking fresh, season after salt season.

I use silicon spray for the engine and corrosion block for the out drive.
Just bought some yamashield cause of this video. Thanks!
That's my preference too.
This different from Yamalube and CRC-656? Also, Pre ordered my Yamaha Boat so will be getting a bunch from you here on out. Thanks for all you do.

Nicely seasoned

Yes any metal surfaces that will see salt water. Do it day one!
Good to know! Do you also spray the electronics behind the dash/console?
Not typically. Not much moisture there and no real problem areas noted.
Hey Will,,, Can you tell me if I can rinse my yamaha engines with soap and water, or if you have a video can you share it pleaae? Thanks in advance!!
@@FredyG-b6v you can just be careful around air filters
@@JetBoatPilot Thank you much! All your videos are very informative.
Is there a burning smell once you run the engines? Does it stay wet to the touch, or does it bun off? Thanks Will !
Never smelled a burning smell. You can reapply as needed.

@@joelong9964 Yes for sure. We just recommend for brand new users to do it day one so that they get ahead of any possible corrosion issues down the road.
Does this apply to jet-skis/waverunners too?
@christopherc4814 yes absolutely
Does the product dry or does it stay sticky?
This one dries over time so reapplication is a good idea. There are others that stay tacky. Boeshield is one of those.
I can't find any information on the effects YamaShield or similar products may have on the marine environment. At least some of it will end up in the water. Any thoughts?
Typically Lubricant like YamaShield don't rinse off easily so they don't find their way into the water in any real measurable way.
Can it stay wet or doest it have to dry before operating engine ? Thanks buddy
It can stay wet
Same for brand new jet ski?
@@bhall8468 yes for sure
what's your thoughts using BIOSHIELD T9 seems to big around the older folks at my job who have boats.

How to clean what specifically?
Is CorrosionX HD good to use too??
@kennethpowell5745 we've not used it but I hear good things.

I'd do it at least once per year. Depends on how often you're rinsing inside the engine compartment with fresh water.

Leave it there and let it soak in. It will preserve the metal components best if allowed to soak.
Do you wipe it down after?
No
Manufacturers should do that to new boats
Great video! What size can did you use?
Not sure, seems like it was about 10 OZ.
Anywhere else on a switch you would suggest spraying? Reapplication frequency?
Ill quit the comments now 😄
Sorry and thanks for the tips
Anywhere you see metal. And if you're in salt water
Would WD40 work the same?
No not really made for marine environment. Use something that will hold on a bit better. We like Yamashield
Don't spray into the alternator or serpentine belt - read the instructions on the can
True, these Yamaha Waverunner engines don't have belts or alternators. Good to know though.
