good info , as much as I like handmade have not availed myself of enough of this info so I will be better informed. Am now. Good idea to revisit this vid often.
Interesting.. thank you! I want to try to make my own rug, as they are so expensive and also I have something specific in mind.. definitely don't want glues, etc in the house. Considering making a big latch hook rug, but I think my cat would scratch at it and might be easy for her to pull out the pieces... am thinking, couldn't someone hand make a pile rug using a latch hook and canvas? Seems like it would hold tighter than the typical backing...... wish I had room for one of those huge looms they use to hand knot. So cool.
So basically trying to differentiate a handmade carpet from a machine made one is the same as trying to differentiate a natural gemstone versus synthetic. They could BOTH have these characteristics, smell, taste, whatever. Frustrating, I tell you.
I don't think this was very informative ! ... you showed us 3 different Kind of rugs and only vaguely explained about 2 ! .. should show them Side by Side . ....And what about the burn test to determine the kind of stitching Material (by smell) !
i come here each time i go to look at a new rug from craigslist just to be certain. and I love that you shared this with us. thank you.
Wonderful explanation
The uniformity of the weave is the main clue - machine made is always in perfect alignment.
