- We are up in the historic Ballygally Castle Hotel ( built 1625 ), found 6 miles north of Larne on the famous Antrim Coast Road.
This is the famous Castle Ghost Room and it's sad spooky story.
The friendly Ghost on the Antrim Coast
Every castle has to have at least one ghost of some kind, and the Ballygally has been recently reported to have as many as three! The one we know most about, The Ghost of Ballygally, has been around for the best part of 400 years. The popular theory is that the ghost is that of Lady Isabella Shaw, wife of Lord James Shaw.
Legend has it that Lord Shaw wanted a son, and when his wife delivered his heir, he snatched the baby from his wife and locked her in a room at the top of the castle. While trying to escape to search for her beloved child, Lady Isabella fell to her death from the tower window! Another theory is that she was actually thrown from the window by the cruel Lord Shaw or one of his henchmen!
Lady Isabella's ghost is reputed to be a "friendly" spirit who walks the corridors of the old castle. Over the years many guests have reported strange experiences and have felt a presence in their rooms! There are also endless stories of unexplained noises in the night and an eerie green mist over the castle!
At Ballygally Castle we are very proud of our permanent ghost resident and have even dedicated a bedroom to her, "The Ghost Room" in one of the turrets in the oldest part of the castle.

This is the second 'true' ghost story i have been able to come across. The first was borught to my attention in Drumbeg parish churchyard near the river Lagan. The Ballygally Hotel story is very sad and reflects how women were mistreated by many man of the time. Best wishes

Tom , did the stairs have a trip step ? like the one in Carrickfergus castle ? Put there to fool invaders. Stairways in castles are always clockwise , this meant people coming up had no room to swing a sword in their right hand but those defending could get a good swing at them . Reggie Killops taught me that 😂

I just got back from a trip to Ireland and Scotland. The hubby and I spent the night in this place.. one floor below this one.

I don't like being/staying in places that have an unpleasant, dark past history of suicide, murder etc I don't think that I would for example want to buy a home where a terrible act had taken place even years before.
These things can prey upon the mind in dreams/nightmares/thoughts. The mind is very strange in the way it works and it can be disturbed so easily. I still have uncomfortable dreams/nightmares about things that happened in my life 30-40 years ago.
Anyway i hope you have had a good trip here. I have hundreds of positive videos about northern Ireland and Belfast.

I'm not too bad from the neck down but the top bit let's the side down badly. Outwardly I have become the shape size etc of the person I wanted to most avoid.- Too heavy bald and specky, oh dear!

This is indeed a very sad story Marie involving male physical abuse. This kind of abuse leading to death is very prevolent today in our supposedly enlightened, civilized society. At least 100 women killed in UK last year by their partners. ( And that's only the ones they know about! ) Dreadful!

Is there any possible chance she committed suicide? This is a tragic story, very sad.
That's what she did SoCal Urbex. She climbed out the window to her death trying to reach her child. The father was a brute.

Maybe its the hotel staff who make this scrary noise on purpose for everyone to visit the hotel and make it the most famous

Sorry PT. I have no idea. I was only there for an hour or two and didn't use my phone. I expect it is fine. All hotels now have good internet.
Isabelle had three 3 children boy girl boy she killed the older two and committed suicide i know this as fact because i'm a descendant of her youngest son
