I missed out on the old school Cold Steel. Most of my CS blades are post GSM and if I could, I'd of started collecting CS twenty years ago!!! But I have to say, except for literally a couple of glitches, I really do like the Cold Steel blades I have now and the recon 1 tanto, was my first recon 1! And it's the one I carry most... I love seeing the Cold Steel "classics" though! And for me, for your money's worth, you still can't beat Cold Steel... LOVE their stuff!!! GREAT VIDEO Pete!
04:16 I started out that with that Gen 3. Carried it for many years being sold on the fella on the pull up monkey bars using it as a point to grasp. Great knife ,,,, I lost that one but bought another of old stock CS before gsm. Memories :o) As for that tacky handle, I removed the clip on mine and with sandpaper smoothed underneath. Medford took heed on that so delivers his blades with a smoothed area under the clip. Like you I do not care about my pockets but merely seek a smooth deployment. Greats points you brought to us,,,, Thanks
Thank you brother! Yeah I seen people do that where they sand down by the pocket clip area That’s a good alternative specially, if you like the tackier portion on the rest of the handle. I just love the older versions a lot more. Thanks for stopping by Ken! Good to hear from you! 🤙🏻
Good vid. I've owned a bunch of cold steel knives over the years. I just ordered a recon 1 today. With the s35vn steel. It's obviously going to be a GSM version. Looking forward to it.
...I've got two...my first was bought ca 2008/09 when they discontinued the old slide lock...I've got the half serrated drop point - hd it sharpened by CS about 2 years ago...also bought the half serrated tanto...lover 'em both!!!
I have all of the Original, Large, Recon 1's, from the beginning of the Demko Tri-Ad Lock Folders, that had Japanese AUS-8A Steel to the CTS-XHP Models to the CPM-S35VN Original Company Models to the New, GSM, CPM-S35VN Cold Steel Models. Now, we have "Magnacut!!!" :-) In my opinion, out of the Demko Tri-Ad Models, it doesn't matter if you have a Old Original Model or a New GSM Model, they all have the same build quality and perform exactly the same. The only real difference is the Blade Steels and Blade Finishes. Also, different years had different offerings of Handle Scales textures and colors. The Newest Large Recon, has a slightly different blade grind, also, at the Blade Tang or Sharpening Choils. :-) I have the Original AK-47 Folders with the Cold Steel Ultra-Lock (Cross-Bar Lock). Myself, I didn't like it better than the Benchmade Axis-Lock; that was the other, Original Cross-Bar Lock type Folder, during that time period. And, the Benchmade Axis-Lock was far superior to the Cold Steel Ultra-Lock ( Knockoff)... When Andrew Demko was asked to join Cold Steel, he already had made a name for himself in the Knife Making Industry, and was already making awesome Custom Knives for super high prices, in Wampum, PA. :-) He incorporated his designs into the Original Cold Steel Knives that put Cold Steel on the Map, as the leader in super reliable Folders that you can depend on in any dire situation. :-) Andrew Demko and Lynn C. Thompson were an unbeatable Team! They made the best self defense Folders, ever, in my opinion. Tri-Ad Folders are as close as you can get to a Production Folding Fixed Blade Knife; they absolutely "ROCK!!!" Way better for Self-Defense than any Cross-Bar Lock Knife that's made by any other Manufacturers, in my opinion. :-) I have a lot of Cross-Bar Lock Folders from other Manufacturers, from all over the World... :-) And, I have a lot of Benchmade Axis-Lock Folders, too... To me, the Tri-Ad "Rules," when it comes to Self-Defense Folders; there's no Lock Type I trust more than the Andrew Demko Tri-Ad Lock! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
@@Kris_Stiletto yeah I would agree with you brother. The triad lock is just awesome. closest. You can get to make a folder fix blade. It would have to be my favorite locking type. unless you’re into fidget factor then it might not be for you, but I’m not big on that. I’m more about function, reliability, strength, and practicality. Take it easy brother. Thanks for stopping by.😊🤙🏻🔪
I just bought one off eBay, and it very closely looks like the one you are calling a Gen. 4 . It was a total bust and had a stupid amount of blade play so rather than mess with it I returned it. One thing I noticed is that the clip on mine matches the clip on your gen. 4 in terms of the logo. Are you completely sure yours is an authentic CS... because I'm thinking mine might have been a knock-off. I have a new one coming from DLT....I guess I'll know soon enough it the other knife was BS.

Yeah, Brother still one of my favorite manufacturers. For what you get you can’t beat the price.

I wish the new ones had a thumb disc. I prefer that over studs.
Agreed

Why are the triad locks so STIFF??
@@richardkling1478 they are new and need to be worked in .
Also get rid of the incredibly tacky bill boarding. One of cold steels worst qualities imo.
