Railfanning Septa feeling in a humorous mood trying to ease frustrations from missed ops. 4/25/24

- This was not one of my better trips to Philadelphia as there were missed Silverliner 5 ride opportunities due equipment swaps and just plain bad luck. Trying to capture something special prevented these opportunities also. Better luck next time. It’s a good bet that wasn’t my last trip to Philadelphia.
We observe Septa MU action at 30th Street with. my usual candor and humor. I did catch the Reading Heritage SV4 twice which looks gorgeous. Yes, I actually said an SV4 looks gorgeous. I’m not on weed 🤣🤣😀. We also caught Engineer Trainee Bill taking out a train for Wawa. Overall an interesting yet frustrating day - Розваги
They are doing a major rail replacement project between Lancaster and Harrisburg. Nobody has documented it yet.
Love seeing the Reading Lines Logo.
17:31 sounds almost exactly like the MBTA's CTC-5 K3Hs from afar! Also yeah, that reading SL4 looks great, and I agree that they look like NJT Arrows. Only difference I see is the lack of center doors!
it's the Silverliner 4 Downpour.!!!!
Wow SEPTA just had a 60th birthday back in February 😮
NJT needs to put the NJDOT logos back on an 8 car set without disco stripes before they are retired in 2026.
I hope your frustration was abated by your humor. Thanks Tim💚👌
It helped.
@@3985uprrSo, I'm planning to catch Warminster Limited train 6480 on the 29th of April. You planning to do that too?
@@ExpressRailfanDon’t know when I’ll be back
@@3985uprr 😢
Would love to see you get an actual cab ride on each of the units. 10:10 maybe ask your buddy Bill.
8:25 this should be familiar to anyone in the 1970s Philadelphia railroading since Silverliner IVs when first delivered had the 1970s SEPTA logo leftside on the right side either reading or Penn Central Railroads.
Wow! 280 on approach does present like the Arrow 3.😂
Good old 30th Street. Nice vid. I spent a lot of time in the past hanging around Track 4 to catch a train to Devon. A great future trip could be getting the Norristown line up to the end of the line and from there transferring to the old P&W high speed line down to 69th Street. From there you can get the Market-Frankfort line back to center city.
Come on Tim those SL4's are not that bad. 😉
It’s all in fun. They just never turned me on like other Septa MU equipment over the years. You’ll notice I was appreciative of the 280. In the future I will try to control myself. Intel advised that there would be an SV5 on a Thorndale run I wanted to film. It wound up being a SV4. It sort of messed up my day and I had to take it out on something 🤣🤣
The Vs are rarely run on weekends, it's more common to see IVs on most train. Which is why I find it surprising there were little to no Vs out that day.
Hello from Scotland, I have been a subscriber for a while very good content. You do
Awesome, thank you!
I’ve Always wanted to Railfan around the Philly area with septas, avelias, and other cool trains!
I saw the Silverliner IV heritage unit on the Warminster line from a distance. Looks great. We need some PRR and Conrail. Maybe the Penn Central as well. Please keep the great videos going
In December I went on Septa train to Doylestown PA and it’s powered by AEM 7
how is that still possible
@@RomanCordero1 - Only on the wash train.
But it was in Roblox game called: Septa Train Simulator
They should repaint all the reading Sliverliner 4s to that
I would like those things a lot more if they did!!!!😁😁😁
The Silverliner IV's look much better without the window band and front stripping. Did you have the distain for them in the 70's as you do today?
Gotta admit , the SL4 look cool tho.
This one certainly does
Whats going on with the upcoming schedule change? Do you know if they are gonna put the express trains back?
I am hoping. I had nothing concrete yet, but I would love to see it.
i was on the Atlantic city line on Tuesday and saw a silver liner V but caught a silver liner iv hoping to catch an express train with an acs-64 :(
leading the train to Trenton
good video
How do you know which equipment is supposed to run where?
Philadelphiatransitvehicles.info
surprised you didn't do a rear view out to Harrisburg this time, you've been asking me all year about it! anyways yeah that Reading car looks amazing!
I’d like to, but I wasn’t able to do it this day. I had to get back to the city earlier.
Can you tell me why all the silver liner 5s when they break they make that whining sound? They spend so much money on these cars.
And the brakes do that!
I was in media the other day driving past the station and one was pulling in making that whining noise.
Extra brake mechanisms at work.
Wind River Chimes makes a set of wind chimes tuned to the sound of a K5LA, and the first person I thought of was you.
How thoughtful 😀
13:38 don’t say that please… they already had to be pulled for months for a broken part
Don’t worry. My Irish luck will keep things ok. ☘️☘️☘️☘️

Now that SEPTA has dumped the CRCC bi-levels, do you think they will go for unpowered Alstom bi-levels and powered Alstom bi-levels for the Silverliner 6s?
They won't fit in tunnel
Spend more than a little time at 30th Street years ago. There used to be a restaurant there that a lot of the crews would go to and they had an amazing meat loaf! We're going back over 50 years. Wonder if it's still there.
There redoing that area now
I wonder if alot a fives are in for maintenance
Sometimes that happens. Later in day there were more of them
I got on a 5 a week ago sounded like the gear sets had no grease in them
Septa is expanding to Lancaster in the future
Hadn’t heard that
I've only heard Coatesville.
@@OldsVistaCruiser there's future Talks about going back to Harrisburg
@@3985uprr railfan magazine had an article two year's ago after the Wawa extension was finished there's a proposal to expand West to Lancaster right now the goal is renovating the old Coatesville station rumours Parkersburg
Atglen Christiana and Paradise are being tossed around as expansion
I heard they’re gonna actually go to Coatesville, Lancaster, and Parkersburg. They were going to build some platforms as well as one at Paradise to connect with the Strasburg railroad. It’ll be great if they do this separate and that way Amtrak could focus on maybe getting a high-speed corridor to Lancaster, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and Chicago.
