Another reason I pay attention to every single little sound the lift makes to predict if/when I'll get stuck in it. In this case, the subtle banging noises leading up to the entrapment were the giveaway. I believe one of the cables could have snapped, but I'm not entirely sure. Either way, I'm glad you made it out safely & that you were able to leave before matters got worse. To add, back in September 2022 I had a similar experience at the Westfield train station in Westfield NJ with a KONE (generic) passenger lift. Except that time it was hydraulic. The motor did not kick in at full speed & was struggling & changing pitch before slowing down to a halt in between floors before the motor kicked back into high gear a few seconds later & jolted to a stop at the second floor landing & the doors opened. I would be absolutely petrified out of my mind if I heard those sounds in the shaft leading up to my entrapment.
Exactly. The modernised Montgomery traction passenger lift at Frederick and Nelson / Sears at Southcenter Mall in the Seattle area was out of service earlier last year. Lift was modernised 1982 and 2011

Don’t feel guilty TKE, this never should have happened had they done proper maintenance. Based on the description, you handled this perfectly!!
no sometimes when lifts safety break they just go out of service like this one its nothing to do with maintenance
I absolutely LOATHE these new Schindler mods. Something similar almost happened to me a few days ago in a sketchy apartment building

If this were me I would have literally climbed right out of this thing, probably not the best idea.
You couldn’t. The bi-parting shaft-way doors are locked
Dang, lucky you got the last ride though!

That loud bang is scary
When you guys gonna learn to stop playing in the Elevators.

What did the sign say on the left freight elevator? As you got stuck. I wouldn't ride random freight elevators because then things like that happen.

2:53 that’s the same elevator alarm in my apartment
And now it’ll never run again unless someone new decides to move in and fix it
And maybe modernize it again so that way it gets rid of Schindler's logic and everything they did to it.
Well, epic motor fail, I guess? Nice to see the moment of stuck on its own......
FINALLY
How did that even get stuck? And when it got stuck, why did the indicator go wild? [Stuck in elevator] 1:35
Who got you out of the elevator did it start to move again
A Schindler technician
How come you didn't open the rear door
I had a lot more to worry about at the time...
You will do this with permission from building owner next time
