Great vdeo thanks for your tips, I just turn on subtitles when I don't understand clearly what was said. But sometimes is because I don't know the vocabulary in this case subtitles is very useful for me help me a lot. And before I watch I read recaps about what's gonna happen in the episode. This way I already know what's going on!
Excellent tips! Input, new words, repetition of old words, these are all very important to imprint the associations of the IDEAS that words represent into your head, so that you don’t translate in your head, and just think in the target language just like in your native language. A word is just a placeholder for the real thing.
I think as you progress, the need to speak using your target language becomes more and more important. It is easy to get really involved in the learning process and forget to actively use what you’ve learned. Although I do find the history, structure, evolution, and etymology of language to be very fascinating, I need to remind myself I’m learning a language more so for the sake of utility in order to use it on a regular basis.
Even though one reason that you learn multiple languages is for business purposes, it is obvious you have a great love and appreciation for other cultures and people. You probably don’t get told enough, THANK YOU for the time you take in making these videos to teach and encourage others in reaching their language goals. There are a lot of people out here that need kindness and encouragement, and you’re doing a great service to everyone that watches your content. Have a great day! 🥳
Thank you so much for the kind words! Much appreciated :)
Actually, regarding the business purpose behind learning multiple languages - I haven't needed languages much in my career to be honest. I learn languages mostly out of passion. I would say I truly need just English (which is still a foreign language to me and as a Bulgarian, you can't find a good job without speaking it nowadays). All the others - not so much. BUT that's just me. Some people do need languages in their work more than I do. And although I don't need them, languages have helped with work before. :)
I love input too!!
I've enhanced my english level, my pronunciation, my listening and most important the confidence with myself.
I'd like to be a polyglot like you 🥴.
Best wishes for you.
to you as well!
great teaching tips
thank you!!

Subtitles are ok for connecting the words to their audio forms, if say for example you hear a word being spoken very fast or mumbled. If you're trying to build on your listening comprehension then reading at the same time will take your concentration away. It would be great if the brain could multi task like that.
I think it's all about experimenting. Reading and listening at the same time is more of a crutch to make it more understandable. Of course, training listening comprehension without aid would be more effective to develop your ability to understand verbal language. But in the beginning, you might need the help and read along.
@@PolyglotSecrets I agree, in the beginning it would help a little to use the subtitles. One might totally understand something written down but totally miss it when listening. It really is all about experimenting though, that's true. I watch Spanish series and movies and I sometimes might put them on. If I'm watching a series that I really like and there is a part where I want to totally understand it all, I'll put the subs on for that section. Normally I just watch them and let the Spanish flow into me.
As you'll know, watching movies/series are super advanced and not graded for learning a language, but I think language learners even at a lower level should watch them. They'll eventually get tuned into the sound and rhythm of the language and reach that magic point where the speaking seems to have slowed down and the words become more clear and separate.
💁♂️i may have some chill, but i have zero netflix... but i've been using subtitles more often recently, so i seem to be heading in that direction?! also, i have decided to quit duolingo, i just can't stand those dumb phrases anymore.
Yaas, haha. Not a fan of Duolingo to be honest :)
@@PolyglotSecrets it was great for exploring, and maybe for learning the basics. but...😪
