Fantastic video Matt. One tip though: if you undo the cap that covers the rear lens element, you can remove the two element groups. The first one just drops out; it's a very thin lens. The second one is a group of elements mounted in a brass frame. You may need to press gently from the inside. I discovered this arrangement when they both fell out on me... The trick is to remember the direction the group goes back in!

What a great video! Your directions were clear and precise. Without your video, I would not have had the courage to disassemble, clean and repair my lens. Thanks to you, it's back in business on my Sony a6000 and good to go for another 30 years. Thank you, Matt.

I just found out a lens I'm going to buy has fungus on it, thanks for this video since now I will still buy it and clean it afterwards. Looking forward to experimenting with new 28mm. Cheers!

I have the correct rubber friction tool to remove the front nameplate and found it infinitely more difficult to remove than what you've shown here. I also custom made two pointed bits to engage the outside spanner slots when the friction tool failed to remove the inner ring. In both cases, in addition to applying acetone, neither the inner name ring or the outer ring with the spanner slots would budge. Somewhat frustrating because according to your video, unusual force should not be required.

Hi Matt, I have a Zuiko Auto-T 100mm f2.8, which needs to be cleaned from fungus. It would be great to see one of your videos disassemblying that specific lens. Or is the 100 similar to these 28 or to the 50? Thanks in advance for your answers.

Thanks for the great videos, do you plan on moving to any of the Nikon D series lenes?

You wouldn't happen to know what size that microscopic screw that acts as a stop on the mounting plate is would you? My lens fell while on the tripod and that screw popped out and messed up the threads and now I need to find a replacement which would be easier if I knew what size screw it was. You can see it clearly in your video - it goes in radially and is at roughly the 10 o'clock position at the 5:41 mark in this video.

    Hi Matt,
I have an OM Zuiko 28mm f2 with some fungus right across an internal glass element. I'm a little apprehensive to disassemble as these Zuiko lenses seem to be more complex than the Rokkor primes that I've opened up. Is the 28 f2 similar enough as the f3.5 in this video to be used as a guide?
Thanks for all the videos on your channel- very informative!

+Jords H I can't say for sure. All the Zuiko lenses from this era that I have taken have had pretty similar designs. They are very different from Rokkor lenses but they are well made and the design is not too complex, especially if you just want to access the front optics.
What I don't know is how well the optics themselves can be disassembled. If the fungus is on the front or back surface of the front optic, then it should be easy to deal with. But if it is on an interior element, then you will have to actually start taking apart the optic. Depending on the lens and where the fungus is, this can range from easy to impossible.
If I ever get a chance to take apart one of these lenses I'll be sure to post a video.

+Matt Bierner thanks Matt, that would be awesome. In the meantime, I might try to get the front optic out and see it if it is just on the rear of it (fingers crossed). Thanks for the info- much appreciated.

Hey Matt, I have this lens, and I'm trying to take out the optics like you are @ 2:50, however, they don't budge, at all. There almost looked like there was a dot of glue on the threads, but I got the glue off, is there anything I can do?

Same problem here. It doesn't budge _at all._
      Very frustrating.

my aperture ring on this lens is very very tight when turning it. would you have any ides why? i bought it this way. overall its in pretty good condition otherwise.

As is mine! Did you ever find a solution to this? I suspect a dot of lubricant under the aperture ring would do the trick, but I’m not 100%
