  • Partial disassembly and reassembly of an Olympus OM System H Zuiko Auto W 24mm f2 8 lens. Lens is disassembled to access the optics, diaphragm, and mechanical components. The diaphragm assembly itself is not disassembled.
This lens is externally and internally almost identical to the 28mm and 50mm Zuikos. Its easy to take a part and repair, and one nice feature is that almost all of the optics can be easily disassembled. I wasn't able to fully undo all the optics on my copy, but if you dissolve the adhesive holding them it place, it should be easy enough.
Full time of video was around 40minutes.

Matt, thank you very much for this very useful video. I myself own an Olympus OM-1 SLR film camera which I won at my early age of 8. It's a very important camera to me for many reasons, mainly because back in the days I wanted to own a copy of the first camera used by the Apolo program of NASA while at outter space (well, the first Olympus). It has got a little bit of deterioration through time and I had the courage to clean it and recover it inspired in your videos. I thank you for this and for sharing this handy and useful information.
Now, I want to share the following with you: I dismantled part of the lens and luckily found the inside of the lens is in a piece and has no fungus (Yay to that).
Just the reason why I dismantled it is because the focusing ring seemed to be literally stucked!! ... It would not allow that smooth slight turn side-to-side of the ring in order to focus the image in the viewfinder.... this moved me into the need for a repair attempt... the thing is, now that I got it dismantled and took the inner aluminun ring belonging to the focusing mechanism unhooked off the outter aluminun ring, I got the feeling it would not match-back in place again, tho I dont want to force anything because I know some of these lenses parts are really delicate and not meant to be forced at all, but intended to fall in place easily and precisely.
Do you have any other video talking about the focusing mechanism of this very objective specifically -the one in this video, Olympus OM System H Zuiko Auto W 24mm f2.8)??? Anything that can enlight me about how to unlock it?
Otherwise, if you know about a solution to this issue and can guide me through a succesful repair I would appreciate it very much!
By the way, there are two tools I certainlyy do not have availably at this moment: one is a lens expander and the other one is the tool to hold a lens with suction... should I need these two in order to go deeper in the disasembly process and achieve a succesful full repair?
    Thank you in advance!
Kudos and a BIG shoutout to you and to your channel from South America!

23:11 "Or when you hit the two silver levers on the back section here, you can also control the aperture." - I am sure you know this and were speaking loosely, but for anyone watching, you only need to hold one of those two silver buttons, namely, the depth-of-field preview button. The other silver button is just a lens mount release and has no connection to the aperture.

Thanks for these videos! I'm going to try to reassemble just the front element of a Zuiko lens I own which is showing some decentering. I'm hoping that I'm lucky and that it is just a random shift in the front element. These vids will definitely be helpful when I attempt it.

    Hi Matt,
I have just picked up an old om-1 and a few lenses, all secondhand of course.
The 24mm's focusing mechanism is very tight to rotate, and the tightness is uneven and inconsistent/intermittent. So I think there must be some foreign material in the mechanism.
Any tips on cleaning out the focusing mechanism?

Thank you very much, this helped me clean my 24/2.8 (I plan to repeat the process to do a better job next time). Do you have any cleaning procedure/materials suggestions? THANKS again!

The front assembly is different as well..the later version has the front elements in little cartridges, not that screw away method of the earlier one...

    Hi,
I have a 21mm 3.5 om lens which is sticking. Is this a different process to 24 you have disassembled.
    Many thanks
    Terry.

On Pentax SMC-A lens the aperture close's when off the camera and the aperture setting is turned, and opens when you move the arm on the lens, that goes into the camera...

Hi Matt, amazing video! I have an Olympus Zuiko 24mm F2 lens. The aperture is stuck on F2 and won’t move. Do you have any idea what the issue could be?

Hi Matt, thanks a lot for this video. Around minute @4:17 how would you call the black part that holds all the mechanisms to the silver mounting ring? What I'm trying to understand is the functionality of the metal peace that extends from it. Looks like an internal "hood" or something like that but not sure what the name and use for it. Hope you can help, regards!

I seem to have a different version my rear elements are in 3 parts and use a helicoid to screw it in which is a separate part. I was hoping to find the absolute correct order but I think I figured it out....

Hey Matt, do you have an idea how difficult it is to disassemble a zuiko 40mm f2? I'd like to clean it since it has quite a lot of dust in it. Would it be similar to an 50mm f1.8? Thanks!
