    amazing! how does one get down with such a strong lift present?

    • @poklet
      @poklet  3 роки тому +1

      Hang Gliders have a relatively large wind speed range, so it wasn't difficult. To get down, you can just get out of the lift band by flying away from the ridge or putting on speed. Or combine them - zoom over the ocean before landing at the beach - the safest way

    Presumably you need some reasonably strong onshore breeze to just hang there in one position whilst maintaining height?

    • @poklet
      @poklet  3 роки тому

      Us you need enough wind speed to match the minimum airspeed of your glider. If I remember correctly, it was about 15 knots / 28 kmph / 17.2 mph. That’s about the wind strength when whitecaps start appearing over the ocean. Not a rare wind strength at coast here.

    How much does the hang glider that you are using cost

    • @poklet
      @poklet  2 роки тому

      New from about AUD 7,000. Second hand from about AUD 500. They’re pretty cheap - about the same price as a high end bicycle. Cheaper than a motorcycle

    What is the brand of your harness. I want one for dunes as well. Does it have a parachute ?

    • @poklet
      @poklet  4 роки тому +2

      It’s a Dynamic Flight apron harness. No it doesn’t have a parachute, but the manufacturer can add a parachute holder to it. In any case a parachute is useless for dune going as you’re generally flying too low to have enough time to deploy your parachute. And much too low for it to inflate.

      Tushar Pokle mate, you might be surprised. From recall, the lowest recorded opening occurred when a Bullet Glider pulled up too sharply from fence height after clearing the gate in a comp. one crossbar snapped rolling the glider onto its back during which the pilot got it out. It opened. Worked. And brought him down. That was 30 years ago.

    How would a 40something fat poor man do this? I've wanted to all my life, yet there's always something getting in my way... I think it's me.

      What’s stopping you? Get in touch with a school. They have all the gear. You don’t need to purchase anything. Or go for a tandem flight to experience it. I’m 40 something, and like you have always wanted to do it. And it’s easier than it looks! Where do you live? I could help find you a school

      @@poklet I'm in Oregon currently, but this is a temporary arrangement. Quit my entire life to get away from a controlling ex, but that might be tmi. Staying with my family in astoria, and studying for my class A CDL. I have some money to spend, but I kinda have to manage it tightly until I get something coming in to replace it.
